New Animal Kingdom night show coming in 2014??

This sounds amazing! Too bad our next trip is Jan & no plans for another, but I would love to see something like this come to AK - it is my favourite park! ::yes::

Night time with the animals at DAK would be amazing. It makes sense to make DAK a whole day park and add night time exhibits. Are all of the animals moved out of the safari each night. If so, I who know nothing about wild animals, think that it would be feasible to put in another group of animals for evening.

Hope it comes true as this would make us rethink AK, we would hang around longer. AK has long been the evil stepchild of WDW IMO and though it has 3 really great E ticket type rides, a couple great shows, the vastness of it all is a turnoff as you meander for eons to get from one attraction to another. Keep adding on WDW, if you build it, they will come;)

I love AK. And I am glad to hear a nighttime show is in the works. For those of you concerned about the animals, the park was originally built with the Animal exhibits in the back so they could close down the back of the park for the animals if they needed to, and keep the front of the park open. That is why Beastly Kingdom and Dino Land USA were placed towards the front of the park. But since Beastly Kingdom never got built they didn't have enough stuff that would/could remain open after dark. With AvatarLand going in, I am sure Disney is circling back on expanding the hours. Adding a "kiss goodnight" show is part of that.

Here is the info from Wikipedia under Kilamanjaros Safari:

Kilimanjaro Safaris typically operates until sundown. However, during the holiday season of 1998, the safaris were continued at night and dubbed Kilimanjaro Night Safaris. Though many animals were asleep, or unable to be seen at night, the attraction had a completely different script and storyline. This "new" attraction featured additional animal sounds, reflectors hidden in the foliage to resemble animals' eyes, and an actual African dance troup, who performed around a bonfire in the area normally occupied by the attraction's elephants. Kilimanjaro Night Safaris only ran during that initial holiday season. After this time, it was deemed that the additional costs, plus the fact that animal visibility was poor (eliciting many guest complaints), made Night Safaris unfeasible to continue regularly.

I have no idea how they will do it in the future.

I'm only guessing but doesn't the AKL use some sort of "artificial moonlight" to help with seeing the animals at night. I'm sure they could in theory us it if the park was to stay open later.

Sounds pretty cool, I really hope they can incorporate this into AK. We have always loved AK. Of course, our kids love the zoo back home and AK is part zoo part theme park so we always enjoy our time here. Just wish there was more to do at night, and it looks like finally there may be. :thumbsup2

Its not the fact that the animal can't be seen at night. but having them on exhibit for extended periods is very stressful

It s happening They've already tested it. A night time safari is also coming. Night safaris are not new to the park. They did them in the first year or two. Wikipedia it if you insist on being right. My parents took a night safari back when it first opened.
There are lights and speakers being put up all over the safari over the last year. Clearly visible. A night Safari is coming along with the nighttime show and yes this park will be staying open late in the reasonably near future.

Source on the nighttime safari coming back?

There have been rumors about all kinds of night shows (like the one in the OP) for years now, for the simple reason that AK is the only park without one, all with pesky little words like "confirmed" and definite statements (such as "Yes, this park will be staying open late in the reasonably near future" instead of "It is possible that the park may be staying open late in the near future, if some of the rumors of a night show prove true)--words and statements that do nothing but give false implications and possibly hurt the credibility of the poster. Nothing ever confirmed by Disney; nothing ever actually happening with any of the rumors. It's possible that the nighttime safari is returning, or that some kind of night show is coming, but even on the rumors and news boards there needs to be a source for the rumor, even if it's just the bus driver.

See, this part makes me doubt that Disney will bring the night safari back. In your first post, you indicated that it was coming back and Disney had already tested it (15 years ago), as proved by this Wikipedia entry. But if we're going by this Wikipedia entry, the implication is that the testing of a nighttime safari was unsuccessful and ultimately unfeasible for extended runs--not that it's coming back in the reasonably near future.

No matter how much I WANT this to be true, it may mess with my Oct 14 plans! I'm trying my best to figure out how to fit in the 4 major parks, ADRs, F&W and a night of drinking around the world... all in 4 park days/5 nights. IF this is true, I'm going to have to convince DH that we need a 5th park day (one of which we'd be staying offsite as we are doing US/IoA the week before... this would be easy though because I'd like to get MK out of the way early... we are a 30 year old couple with no kids... I just want the pictures and to ride the Mountains!). I mean I WANT a 5th park day, I just promised I'd try to figure out a way to do everything in 4.

If it does happen, I doubt it will interrupt your plans. I'm guessing earliest we see this is December but most likely 2014. I could be wrong but just don't see it happening for a bit.

This is incorrect. I was DAK opening crew. My roommate worked on the Safari. They tested it. It was NOT extensive testing either nor was it rolled out for any length of time outside the holiday event. They tested, it failed miserably... Much like the zebra shaped food troughs for the lions that were removed after cast members complained during cast previews before park opening. Night safaris are NOT coming back because they were never truly here... Just a tested concept for a bit of a holiday extra that failed.

You can refer to the post immediately following yours for the official Wikipedia entry about the history of nighttime Safaris.

Also, I'm just saying that if you don't come around often but when you do, you make a post about how you don't believe someone who's actually posted a published article about how something is already in the testing phase, don't be surprised if people take offense. I'm guessing the OP thought the article was exciting and wanted people's thoughts about this show. Not some guy saying he didn't believe the article. That's just killing joy and THAT'S what happens all too often on this board. Now let all talk about how awesome this show is gonna be!

They posted a blog entry... Not a NYT or Orlando Sentinel article.

The board is about Rumors and News. Rumors are anything not announced or confirmed by Disney. Thus rumors can be debunked. And while the OP and yourself believe the rumor others do not & others know many disney rumors and even announcement (Hyperion Bay or Wharf or whatever it was for example) never ever ever happen. Heck all one has to do is look at Jim Hill's track record to show just how accurate disney bloggers are. Most find out the truth when the rest of us do.

Sure it may happen but if you want sunshine and rainbows instead of discussion over every rumor then you're on the wrong board for it.

And someone with 44 posts over the span of 7.5 years should maybe avoid throwing stones at someone for not coming to a forum a lot. Just saying.

Anecdotally, not that I noticed. There was some light but I don't think it made it that much easier to see them. Just my opinion though, I don't know the tech they use.

after reading the article I feel like they would need to refurb the area around the tree if they wanted to do this because while you can see the tree from many places I am not convinced that they are enough great viewing areas that aren't too far and aren't too close. Also seeing as the animals are all around the tree if they tried to make it some type of story using the animals people wouldn't get it. The river boats sounds a bit like the fantasmic boat parade which to me is just ok

I may be imagining it, but I thought the animals on the safari are "put away" to a different area at night? If so doing so in the dark late at night would be difficult I would have thought? So personally I'm classing that rumour of a nighttime safari as untrue.

As for the nightshow, if its been tested then I'm guessing its almost certainly going to happen unless there are technical issues say with quality of the water or something.

As a side note, I really wish the mods would tighten up on the moderating in this forum. There are one or two posters (one in-particular does this repeatedly) who keep posting things as confirmed when they most definitely are not. This in my view is clear trolling and picking on unsuspecting people who come to disboards wanting information to possibly plan a once in a lifetime trip. They could then potentially be planning some of the aspects of their holiday around "confirmed" things which are simply untrue.

This makes the most sense out of any post on this thread, close the walking trails and the safari at dusk, keep dinoland, Everest and Avatar open into the evening and have a simple night time water show. Enough to keep the park open to around 8pm should be fine.

Can do the animal areas in the daytime then the bigger rides at night. I don't think there is anything to gain in the park by having a night Safari with the regular ride system, a simpler exclusive tour would work better, if they decide to do a night-time animal experience.

Hey folks I just want to say chill. It's a rumors forum quit taking it all so seriously. You like the rumor, don't like the rumor, good everyone is entitled to their opinion. No need to get personal. As for myself I like reading the rumors, like toying with the idea it just might happen. Enjoy reading the speculation. I would like to see AK get better maybe some of those Disney bigwigs will read this stuff and get a few ideas. So lets have fun folks and keep the rumors coming. :thumbsup2

And while the OP and yourself believe the rumor others do not...

Ummm...I NEVER said I believed it. And I quote...

They claim it to be a definite coming attraction and I was just wondering if anyone else has more info or has heard anything about this? Sounds pretty amazing!
I simply posted this because I wanted to see if anyone had any more info or thoughts on the matter. The title of the boards is RUMORS and News. Didn't realize I'd annoy or piss so many people off by posting the link. :confused3

This would be awesome!!! A first for Animal Kingdom! Very exciting to imagine!
