NEW (and IMPROVED, if THAT's possible!)Wilderness Lodge FAQ

Hello WL devotees. Just got back from a quick 3 day trip with DD (6/9-6/11/03). The lodge of course was amazing. They let us have a late check out (1pm) and our woods view was of some thin trees and the too the left it looked like the edge of the entrance to the lodge and to the right the corner of the lodge. That actually was no big deal. The only difference I saw was on this trip we were sharing busses with FW (the Epcot bus and I think it was the MGM bus went to the Poly and then on to the studios). I think this changes fairly often. The service at the shop and restaurants was as usual outstanding. My DH was so jealous that his "No WDW next year" is quickly waining. We were in room 4084. I think that is all the updates.

katiebug,

i think you can call mousekeeping and get side rails that attach to the bunk beds, but i am not sure.

congrats on your upcoming vacation. wl is just wonderful.
:D

Katiebug,
The top bunk already has rails and my DD4 slept up there last year and had a blast. And as Disneykid said, you can get rails for the bottom if needed. Your kids will love them. I hope to have another det in a couple weeks.

Even though I have been to the WL twice I cannot remember something about the boat ride to MK.

When you get off the boat you go directly to the main entrance of MK, you dont have to take a monorail or tram right? I belive that is correct, because I remember I hated driving to MK because after parking you had to take a tram and then the monorail and it was a hastle.

My main question is that we have a PS at 1900 Park Fare for dinner. I would like to take the WL boat to MK and then the monorail over to the Grand Floridian. Is there an entrance for the monorail that would take you to GF near where the WL boat let's you off at in MK??

Otherwise we would have to drive to GF then drive to MK for the remainder of the evening, then drive back to WL. I would rather just do the boat...much more relaxing!

Sorry if this is confusing!!

hi,

if i remember correctly, the boat lets you off at the main entrance of the mk. the monorail is to the left and i am pretty sure there are two entrances: one to the TTC and one that goes to the resorts (this may also be the express monorail).

:D

While we're on the subject, I'm assuming this boat/monorail option is the best for getting from WL to monorail resorts, right? Also, if we want to get to CR from WL, is there a direct boat that I heard mentioned? And from the MK, the resort monorail stops at CR first, then the Poly, then GF? Do I have all of this right?
Thanks!

Hi there is a boat that goes to Contemp and FW then back to WL. The boats to the Poly and the GF just go to those resorts.

Hi gang! We just got back from a WONDERFUL trip -- 6 nights WL and then 4 nights at the Hard Rock at Universal. I AM NOW OFFICIALLY A WL VET!!!!

The WL was absolutely beautiful! The pix on the internet don't do it justice. The only "down side" to our trip was that we couldn't be flag family - it was booked our entire stay with a waiting list 4 families deep.

We were in room 5012 (queen and bunk beds), overlooking the otter pond (we saw 2 otters) and could see the castle and fireworks thru the trees. Actually, the trees thinned out at our level and got thicker again toward the top, so maybe staying on the 6th or 7th floors wouldn't have a good view of the castle at all.

Our maid was great - cute towel animals every day; the boys couldn't wait to get back to the room to see what she left each day.

Any questions, please ask. My brain is fried - I just went thru 309 new e-mails here at work. Oh well; I'm working to save for our next trip to The World!!

Welcome back Amy, sounds like a great vacation.
Was your room a Woods View or Standard View?
Thanks!

Someone had asked about siderails for the beds. Mousekeeping can get you those with no problem. They got them for us last time we were there. No charge either.

They really came in handy for our 2 year old toddler.

On another note, a tip for everyone, if you have a laptop that plays DVD movies, bring some along. We kept our 2 year old happy many times and even put her to sleep a few times by playing an episode or two of Bear in the Big Blue House.

Hi Janice! We had a woods view, and view of the otter pond. Nice and quiet (except for my boys). One thing I especially liked about our location was that the nearest elevator was right by the laundry, Roaring Forks, pool and boat to MK. Very convenient.

:( I want to go back!! :(

Cindy, the Hard Rock is awesome! Very modern in style. The beds and pillows are soooo comfortable. My boys love the pool - it has a nice, long slide and an underwater sound system. There's rock memorabilia all over the place, right down to the pictures on the walls in the rooms. It's a short stroll to USF, IOA and City Walk. And the best part: when you stay onsite, you just show your room card and go to the front of the line on every ride, all day long! You can get so much more accomplished than at Disney when you can only get one FastPass at a time.

hi amy -

regarding fastpass, when we were there in may, my husband and i actually got fastpasses for three different attractions, one right after the other all within minutes. we then shopped in a few stores and then went back to the attractions when our time arrived. did the other machines not give you a fastpass because you already had one?

take care, :D

Amy,
We have ressies for next June at the WL and the room you had sounds just like what we what!!! I booked the woods view and have requested the queen/bunkbeds in a room overlooking the "otterpond". I had no idea of room numbers but now at least I know room 5012 or something in that vicinity would be great. Thanks for posting!!!

Carla

Jeanne, we were only allowed one FastPass at a time at Disney, except for one day at MGM - our FastPass time for Rock n Roller Coaster was so far off that we were allowed to get another one about an hour after we got our 1st Fast Pass.

Carla, I actually requested room 6012 based on someone's comments on this board. One floor lower was just as nice. These boards are fantastic sources of information; a Disney vacation is so expensive that you want to be sure everything is as close to perfect as it can be!

...I'm sooooo glad that you had a wonderful experience at WL. Yeah, girl, you are CERTAINLY a WL Vet!!:p

Carla,
Don't forget to post about YOUR trip when you return )I like to live vicariously thru other's adventures to WDW!)

I'm sure this has probably been answered somewhere, but I'm new and I have not seen it addressed.

If you do not want to use valet parking, are Handicapped parking spaces available in the self parking lot at WL relatively close to the main entrance? If so, how many and is abuse of these spaces as much of a problem at WDW as it is here in NC?
