NEW (and IMPROVED, if THAT's possible!)Wilderness Lodge FAQ

...handicapped parking is about as close as close gets. No, the CM's are pretty much on top of things when it comes to stuff like "abusing" the parking spaces......I recommend having a person in your group dropping off and/or picking up the person with the "disability" (I'm trying to be as sensitive as possible:rolleyes: , so excuse me if I've used the wrong "term"!) at the front door and THEN parking afterwards.

I recall that there are at least 5 to 6 spaces per isle and there are about 5 or so isles with parking on both sides. It did not appear to be an issue as to how many there are but wether or not they were being legitimatly used. I remember seeing quite a few cars that did not have handicap plaques or plates.

Most of the times there were spots from what I remember.

I would also call the WL and ask the front desk about the handicap parking rules.

I also found this clip about florida state law regarding handicap access to parking on Magictrips.com:

You must have a Florida handicap permit to park in handicap parking areas. Permits from other states are honored, but a disabled license plate alone won't do.

I'm sure this has probably been answered somewhere, but I'm new and I have not seen it addressed.

If you do not want to use valet parking, are Handicapped parking spaces available in the self parking lot at WL relatively close to the main entrance? If so, how many and is abuse of these spaces as much of a problem at WDW as it is here in NC?

I tried to run a search on any info on the Honeymoon Suite at WL, but it's not working. Does WL have a Honeymoon suite? Has anyone stayed there? Any photos available, (not too explicate, please!;) )

Since it's our 5th Anniv. I'm thinking about spending our last few nights in one if it's available.

Can anyone help me?:)

...yes, WL does have a honeymoon suite, but I don't think they actually CALL it a "honeymoon" suite...lemme see if I can find some 411 on it;) !

Have you heard of AP discounts being given on the Deluxe rooms (Jr. Suite)? CRO told me yes, sometimes, but WL front desk told me no, never. Why can't you ever get a straight answer?

TIA,

Sue

..not all up-to-date info trickles down to all the CMs. Another reason is that newer CM's just don't have enough experience to be able to "filter in" all the stuff that they need to know in order to be the best CM that they can be (thru' no fault of their own). A job with WDW can be pretty undaunting; so much to know, with a continuous influx of new and changing info....:D

Thanks, Kimmar, I can understand how difficult it would be for new cm's. Do YOU know the answer to my question?

TIA,

Sue

..offhand, but I will certainly try to research it for you!:D

I just wanted to thank ALL of you, for all of the wonderful help & information I have gotten from this thread. I am not only someone who has never stayed at the WL, but I have never even been to WDW before! *hanging head in utter shame*

You all have painted such a wonderful picture of the WL, that I can practically picture it in my minds-eye.

Thanks again, and I will keep checking back for last-minute tips.

:D

John-I sure hope you will ove the WL as much as all of us do!!

From one Illiniosian to another...have an awesome vacation!!

Thanks Janice,

It looks like your family will be arriving shortly before we leave. I PROMISE not to make them dread another Illinoisan!!

;)

Hi, everyone!
First off, I wanted to thank everyone for such a great, informative thread. DH and I love finding a few minutes each day to sit together and get caught up on the posts.
We're planning a trip for the beginning of next May and trying to decide if we want a room with king bed or just go with the two queens. I read that most, if not all, of the king rooms are handicapped accessible with roll-in showers. I was wondering if anyone has any pics (or knows of some on the web) of the showers so we can see what they look like. TIA

Just wanted to check out my countdown clock.

This place is great...I look in daily!

Thanks to everyone for their informative posts! I love seeing the links that others offer. Some really cool photos!

;)

Can someone please describe the WL pool? From all the pictures I've seen, it looks very tiny. About how long is the water slide? I can imagine that it gets very crowded...do the guests at WL Villas also share the pool? Thank you.

Hi, all

We will be checking in at WL next week.

A couple of questions:

1. Can we check in very early, as in 6:45 or so, so we can make it to EMH??? I know our room would not be ready, but we would have to have a room key in order to be admitted to EMH, correct??? (We are arriving the night before and staying offsite)

2. Can our kids use floaties (swim ring for one/arm floaties for the other) in the WL pool???

3. Where are the duckie races??? Is this free?? And when are they??

Thank you for your help!!!

Hello, we've stayed at the WL three times and have run the trails pretty much every day. On one post we read, someone mentioned an otter pond and otters. Where is this pond and are there real otters, As I said, my husband and I have done our running around the trails, but never saw a pond or any otters. Please let us know about this. Thanks

I can only dream about our next visit, no plans made yet.
The otter Pond is located on the North side of the lodge. If you go to the 6th floor, there is a a row of shutters. open them and you will see a pond. Here is where the otters show up. Usually in the am when the water is cool. In the fall and winter are the best times to catch a glimpse of them. I have seen them on occasion. The pond is to the right of the Smokehouse. :bounce: Good Luck!

Back Saturday from a wonderfull week staying at the Wilderness Lodge. Our room was a standard, King room that was also a handicapped room. We had requested a King, non-handicapped room; but evidently none were available. We were in room 1034, which is right around the corner from Roaring Folks. This was a very good location - convenient for using refillable mugs, close to the laundry room and also close to pool. Our room was right next to the Otter Pond. We saw 2 otter's out in the pond numerous times - it was really neat. As far as the room itself, the only time I missed the tub was several nights when I would have liked to soak my tired feet. What I did instead was to go out and soak them in the hot tub instead :D . Mousekeeping was fine and we got towel animals one day (got three in fact). I did tip $3-4 every day. Well that's about it - any questions, I'd be glad to answer them. We absolutely love the Wilderness Lodge, love it so much in fact we joined DVC last Tuesday and picked the Villas at the Wilderness Lodge as our home resort.

1. You will be able to check in and have your baggage stored at Bell Services. You will be issued a room key and then you'd be able to head to EMH.

2. Arm floaties are permited in the pool, but inner-tubes are not.

3. Don't know the answer to this one. Sorry.

JessetheCowgirl -

i think i could help with #3. when you get to the wl, ask a cm at the front desk to give you a copy of the activities around the resort for the week. when we were there in may, we asked about activities and the front desk gave us a list which also included activities at ft. wilderness.

it gave us dates and times. but i would also double check them for that day. :D

Thank you all!

I am REALLY getting excited--this will be our first time onsite, and the WL looks incredible!!!!
