FC, thanks so much for always being on here to wish everyone the best. And for trying to ward off evil weather spirits:)
I talked with my folks last night (who live in FL) and they said to make sure I call often to insure that they haven't floated away!

Keithatl......sending PD your way for great trip. Have fun!!

Bear Necessities.....that is probably the saddest clock I've ever seen.....I am definately hoping that the #'s just fly off of there for you!

I hope everyone has a great day.

This may be my last post before we leave for the Lodge. Everyone has offered such great advice, and I'm a bit overwhelmed at all the information.

But I have my lists, and I'm really looking forward to some R&R.

For all those going in the next few weeks, you'll be surprised at how fast the time flies, as the date gets closer. I almost wish I had a few more days to get organized. (NOT!)

Thanks again, and watch for my trip report when we get back!

I'm Going To Disney World!

KeithATL, jlieblaw, and Wyndale....make sure you have a good time. We aren't too far behind you. Take lots of pics! Balcony views too!

Bear Necessities, that is a LONG countdown timer. I hope it passes quickly for you.

Glad to hear that Fabian is on the way out.

Fred

Wyndale, keith-atl, lieblaw and all short timers: God’s speed and looking forward to the reports. My wish is you get to do all that is your hearts desire.

Trip Tip just for WL FAQ “Family: If you have a courtyard view or are in the south wing, you can still view the MK fireworks. Go to the north wing and where building “A” & “B” intersect there is a window with shutters, should get a good peek from there.
FYI: Every floor has some type of display or exhibit, so when you are spending a day at the Lodge, feel free to wander.

A MUST do is to take the main lobby elevater to one of the upper floors and walk out to look down on that awesome lobby. Don't forget the camera.

To those of you heading off - have a safe trip and a great time!

And anyone staying concierge level - come back with good notes about the food and pictures!! :P

Cool! Real-Time pics! Beechparty sent in this picture from a T-Mobile cell phone!! I processed it a bit cause it was pretty light and hard to see detail but now it is much better! Enjoy!

Anyone else want to send me pictures? (Geez!! How many times will I have to ask in this thread??? - BAH! Who cares! :teeth:)

Fred

Bear Necessities

Whoa, that countdown clock is pretty depressing. I guess I'm not so green with envy anymore. ;)

You could also look at it positively and say to yourself, "I've got all this time now to anticipate my trip and visit these boards!

I want to thank everyoned who has helped me with my questions and has wished my family well on this trip.

Also to all who are going have a wonderful vacation as well.

Majestic Ill try to get pictures when I get back.

Enjoy all....

jlieblaw, if you are booked into a standard room, do not take your chances by not making a request! I, Type A Planner Mom, got so busy that I forgot to fax in my request until it was too late, and I didn't think to say anything to the CM checking me in. We went up to the room - which was #6058 - and it was directly over the service area! This was at 3:30 PM on a Saturday and there was plenty of truck noise. And when you went out on the balcony, you smelled truck fumes. As DD11 so tactfully put it, "I hate this room! The balcony stinks!"

So after I had finished mentally kicking myself for a few minutes(yes, I know that requests are only requests, yada yada, but why hadn't I made one?), I decided to be proactive and return to the front desk to see what they could do. Actually, I would have paid for an upgrade at that point - I wasn't about to spend seven nights in that room if I could help it. I very nicely told the CM (somebody different from the one who checked us in, and I was glad, because that person hadn't been very friendly) that I knew I booked a standard room, but I was very unhappy with my location. I did not mention an upgrade. She said, "let me go talk to someone" and was gone for a few minutes. When she got back she said, "we are going to upgrade you to a woods view room at no charge, but I want to warn you that the view is mosly of rooftops." Hey, I didn't care!

Our new room number was #6096 and off the lobby. (BTW, this was a non-smoking room, though apparently some on the sixth floor are not.) We really liked it, though I know people here recommend staying further down in the wings. I rarely heard any noise from the lobby and heard no noise from our neighbors, except a *very* occasional toilet flush early in the morning. Our location was close to the lobby elevators and very convenient. And I loved being able to open my door and walk out and look down at the lobby and hear the music.

I'm sure there are nicer woods view rooms, and I wouldn't go out of my way to request this one, but as I said, it was very pleasant and we were very happy.

So two lessons learned: one, fax in your request (or have it noted on your ressie if you're really organized), and two, if you're not happy with your room, see if it can be changed. It never hurts to ask nicely.

We have been trying to decide where to stay. This will be our first time at a deluxe, and our choices are between WL and AKL.

*I* am leaning heavily towards WL, as I wanted to stay there last year and the budget just would not allow it.I swore that I would stay there next.

I've read through most of this thread and am concerned about those who have mentioned WL as having thin walls?

Also, I originally thought I wanted a woods view, but the thought of possibly getting a partial lake view, or geyser/waterfall view with a courtyard view room is very appealing.
Have those of you who happened to get a pool view found it to be noisy? Or are the upper floors a safer bet to prevent that with a pool view room?

Thanks

Oh yes, one more thing!

We will be booking the Dream Maker package+silver plan.
Does anyone know if it is possible to book a split stay (say between WL & AKL) and a package together?

"Day Four at the Lodge. . . " is now posted on Trip Reports for those interested! :)

TooBoys4Us: Not sure I can help you with your package question, but if you look at Day One in my Trip Reports, I mention the "thin walls"! Didn't find it to be a big problem, though.

Anybody know anything about these?

I called to book a Deluxe - Jr. Suite for the Wilderness lodge Dec 27-30 and was told they are unavailable. They recommended the Villa because I need a seperate living and sleeping room.

Price is comparable, but my fear is this happy little townhouse will be an unhappy distance from the pools, food, and anything else you would want to just walk around to find during your stay.

Not sure to keep this or move to another property. That's where you all come-in, you seem to be experts on all things WL. So, give me the scoop, please!

Thanks

I have nor heard any negitive coments from those staying there about the additional walking.

You would have more walking to get to the lobby and RF. Not a whole lot more to the main pool and Villas has a small, but nice pool. Bus station would be comparable to WL guests, but the boat dock would be a bit longr. You can cut through the south wing of WL to get to the lobby. I am sure there are others that can shed more light on this for you.

Fabian looks like he is heading out to sea, so it looks like those of you who are lucky enough to be leaving soon will be ok.

Majestic -I swear, I'm not ignoring your request for pictures! I'm trying, but since DS started high school last week, things have been a bit "hectic"!

Bear Neces I'm sorry to say that your countdown clock makes mine look like its just around the corner! But keep the faith, I have been where you are, and look at it as an opportunity to plan, plan, plan!

Keith-atl Have a safe trip! Can't wait to hear all about it!

EVERYONE ELSE Hi! How are you all doing this evening? It's raining again............................

Getting close, I hate to say it but as I clock watch at work, waiting to bail out at lunch time to head to Orlando Im clock watching my timer as well here :)

I never thought I would be asking this question, so please don't laugh...Are the bunkbeds at WL big enough for adults? On our Nov trip we are bringing my Mom so that's 3 adults and 1 child in the room. I had just assumed that the 2 queen beds would be ok, but then thought about it and asked Mom how she felt about sleeping with my ds (8). Come to find out she's not at all happy with the thought. (With good reason, they both are very "active" sleepers) I called to see if we could get a villa or suite and those are not available for the time we are going. I've even thought about a cabin at Ft. Wilderness, but really wanted to stay at WL for the resort experience.

If the beds are standard twin size I think that would be ok. The other thing is that I've heard the rooms are darker-is this true? And one last thing-how hard is it to get a bunk bed room if requested in advance (we have courtyard view)?

Thanks!

Funny you mention that, my mother is spending one night with us and when I told the lady we were planning on putting in her in a bunkbed for the night she laughed, I guess if your mother is small then it shouldnt be a problem, we knew my mother wouldnt go for it, even though she is staying one night with us till she gets her room the next day.

So if your mother has a sense of humor and doesnt care I guess it would be good, but I would think the bunkbeds mattress would be a lot harder than the bed.
