I have never flown before but I got a decent rate to Orlando from Indy for 174.00 a person how good is transair?? My husband has flown for bowling tournaments and he has only flown Northwest. Can you give me some input on airtrans??

In general, if there was such a thing as an "unsafe airline" it would be shut down by the FAA.

Actually, I didn't know what you meant, and I don't appreciate the sarcasm. There are many people coming from many different viewpoints on this forum, and there have been people asking if a certain airline if safe, has a lot of crashes, etc., so you'll excuse me for being literal.

I took AirTran (assuming that's the airline you're asking about) for the first time 3 months ago and thought it was great. Our flight to MCO arrived a few minutes earlier than scheduled.

On the way home, our flight was sold out. They started boarding early, and we left early. We landed back at PHL 20 minutes ahead of schedule. On a recent thread, someone else posted almost the same thing, and I posted back with my travel dates thinking he was on the same flight as me, but he wasn't. We both thought that must speak pretty well for AirTran's service, at least in terms of the flying.

In these days of cutbacks in amenities, if AirTran is a discount, no-frills airline I honestly couldn't tell I was flying on such an airline versus a legacy carrier.

there appears to be a lot of posts lately along the lines of 'how safe is XYZ airline?'. As CleveRocks pointed out, the FAA would not let any unsafe airline fly.

Generally speaking, most US airlines have a similar safety record. No airline is incident-free - I believe that until a few years ago Qantas was the only major airline to claim a crash-free history but that too changed.

Ultimately, airline travel is significantly safer than road travel, and no airline in the US should be considered unsafe.

I too don't understand your initial post or the reply back - I believe that CleveRocks was just trying to be his useful self, but for whatever reason useful posts are seen as 'sarcasm' or 'knowitall' here on the Transportation Board by many readers.

Since I have never flown, I have always heard some of the cheaper airlines cut corners to be chip..KWIM? Thanks for clearing that up, Now I realize that is not true. I always thought the best was American,Continental,Northwest etc. So I find Transair(Airtrans) and found a decent rate, I just come here to find out if its a good, reliable and not a airline to cut corners. Thanks for clearing that up for me..No sarcasm intended.:cloud9:

You might want to clarify for yourself, if not for the board, what airline you're thinking of using. There is AirTran. There is also ATA Airlines, which is commonly called by its recent former name of American Trans Air.

I assumed AirTran, but since you use the terms Airtrans, Transair and AirTran pretty interchangably I just wanted to clarify.:)

My mom has flown airtran several times to many different airports in FL and LOVES it! The planes are new and anything beats the horrible experience we had with AA 2 years ago. I expect that we will be happy with our flight. We will report back when we return!:surfweb:

We flew Airtran for the first time last month and it was great. We arrived in Orlando a few minutes early and we returned to Detroit on time.

I would fly Airtran again. We had no problems.

I flew Airtran (nonstop to Orlando) out of Indianapolis last December. I was very pleased with the airline. No issues that I observed. Flights were on time and the crews were pleasant and efficient. Not a frills airline but I prefer it to Southwest.
