Chapter 4: I thought this was a Nov/Dec trip to CR??
Yes, I know... I ended the last section with an October plan at Wilderness Lodge.
Here's how we got from there to here... it requires a bit of back story...
Almost 3 years ago, we lived in Michigan. I have been htere my entire life and DH has been there for almost all of his. All of our families were there. It was a very difficult decision for us to make the jump to Cincinnati, leaving all of our family behind. It was a great career move for DH and it honestly it has been very good for our family. We are much tighter now and have worked harder to make ourselves part of our community here, all good things. The biggest drawback -- the family in Michigan. While everyone does live in Michigan, they are not close together. There are about 70 miles between my family and DH's mom and her relatives. There's a little over 200 miles from either of them and my father-in-law. Once we cross the state line, people pretty much expect us to zig-zag across the state making sure we see everyone. I have 3 siblings and DH's extended family is quite close. It's not uncommon for us to try to fit in 5 or 6 "gatherings" in a 72 hour visit to the state.
It was while orchestrating our trip to Michigan for Easter that I had a meltdown. Brother #1 was only free this day and brother #3, that day. MIL could only do X and her sister could only do Y. As our heads were about to explode, I said to Ryan ... this just makes me want to go away for Thanksgiving. He looked surprised because Thanksgiving is totally my favorite holiday with my family. We often discuss the "what if we just stayed here?" scenario, but in the end we cave and travel feeling exhausted and overwhelmed. This time though, I was serious. I pointed out that the weekend after Thanksgiving is value season, while our trip was planned during regular season. I also said that everything is decorated for the holidays, which is something I always wanted to see. Plus, we do not need to leave until after Thanksgiving, so there was still an option for people to travel to us. Once he realized that I was indeed serious he encouraged me to call.
When I got the CM on the phone, I had quote me just what we had: a bunk bed woods view room at the Wilderness Lodge. It was a savings f over $400. Just for kicks I had her check pricing and availability at CR. There were garden wing rooms open!!! AND, I was able to get into one and still save $100 over the October quote, bringing me well under budget. With that, I was sold!
We are officially booked Nov. 28-Dec. 5 at the Contemporary in a Garden Wing Garden View room!
Up next ADRs. I need some SERIOUS help!
