We don't have an XBox but there is a device by a company called Roku that will do the same thing. Each of my girls is getting one for Christmas. I am so excited - they LOVE Netflix Instant so I hope this will be easier than squinting over their laptops. The Roku device was $99.00 so it's not too big of an investment.

I cant TELL you how happy this makes my husband. He has been dancing around like an idiot since the update. :lmao:

We are having a Houseparty this week for X-box and Netflicks. I can't wait! They sent us a ton of neat stuff for the party.:worship:

If you have your Xbox connected to your HDTV via an HDMI cable, is the movie quality 1080p? Like Blu-Ray?

We are getting an XBox for Christmas, but debating a Blu-Ray Player.

How much is it to download a movie?

I asked DH and here's what I think he said.

Most older HDTV's have a native resolution of 780p but can scale up to 1080I, however, some of the resolution is lost. Most newer HDTV's natively support 1080, and for blue ray this is best because no scaling is necessary.

I think you are trying to decide whether to use the 360 exclusively for your movie viewing or to get a Blue Ray too. We don't have BlueRay but we do have a separate DVD player because we had done this with our original XBOX and had to find out the hard way it was the wrong way to go. Apparently, using the XBOX 360 for all movies is a bad idea because the laser life on a gaming system is reduced dramatically and those game systems are a whole lot more expensive to replace than most DVD players.

As for cost, there are unlimited downloads associated with most Netflix memberships. I didn't think the selection was all that great because we see soooooo many movies in this house there isn't much we didn't see yet on the list. But other families who aren't as big movie buffs as us would probably find the instant movies offered in addition to their fantastic mail in selections more than enough.

The guy I talked to at Netflix told me that MAC should also become compatible in the near future (New Years) and that it looks like, since I have wireless access, I will be able to have one movie playing on the 360 and another on the MAC at one time. He also assured me that Netflix was working on getting the digital rights to more movies etc.:cheer2:

my boyfriend is excited about this too. he never cares what movies we get on netflix, but as soon as he heard that netflix is having this deal he's suddenly all excited about netflix. haha. go figure.

Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions! :flower3:

Ours is a new one with the 1080p. Thanks for the great tip of not ruining our new XBox using it as a DVD player! If I use Netflix, it would just download, right? Or would that cause wear on the XBox itself?

We should probably get a Blu-Ray, but the cost of the movies are so high too, that if we could "rent" an HD quality one from Netflix every now and then we might be better off.

I forgot about this coming out!! We'll have to get it hooked up this weekend! And I was just getting so fed up with Netflix and not getting the new releases! (In other words, I didn't get WallE this week and still haven't gotten Tinkerbell!)

It would either run streaming or from the hard drive, so it shouldn't do too much to it, not like playing DVD's constantly

The Netflix instant view function is, I think, more of an embellishment than a product that can stand on its own. I think In Demand or Pay Per View has all the newer movies and those would probably be better choices if you're not into the movies in the mail program. I'm not knocking it but I would hate to mislead someone who might think all of Netflix's titles are available as Instant on the 360, they are not... not even close... in fact, many of their Instant movies say specifically that they are not available with the 360.

Still, for us & our situation, it is AWESOME!

Okay, what am I doing wrong? I can't find anything new to download for the party tomm. The only stuff I can find for instant are older movies like 2007 and MUCH later.

I have 3 generations of people coming so I need a good family movie and we wanted to do Ironman or something like that.

I say go to Blockbuster and rent Kung Fu Panda or go with Pay per view like I said mentioned before...

I've never tried the Instant Netflix. Does it cost extra? Is there a limit to how many movies?

I have the cheapest Netflix plan there is currently. (I think I do anyway.)

How does it work if just on the computer?

LOL, kind of defeats the idea of having a X-box/Netflicks Houseparty with free stuff provided by x-box and Netflicks.:rotfl:

We got it linked up and a new account started and watched National Treasure 2. I love those kind of movies...

Yeah, I know;) but a Blockbuster movie would have been better than a bunch of bored party goers. I'm glad you found something:goodvibes

This is GREAT news. We've had the Roku box since the summer but now we can watch movies downstairs with Xbox and movies upstairs with the Roku box.

**Just in case some of you don't know, this (watchting movies via Xbox or Roku) does not 'yet' replace getting new releases via DVDs through the mail. The instant movies are not new releases. Maybe someday, but not yet.

Hubby and I were just talking about this yesterday. I think I know what we're getting each for Chanukah. :wizard: Just one of course, but it is a good investment.
