To all the wonderful dissers out there:

My friend's 16-year old daughter has been battling leukemia for over four years now. Finally, last Friday, she received a bone marrow transplant. She is doing as well as can be expected right now but has a long road still ahead of her. She is in St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, away from all of her family and friends except for her mom. Her mom posted that she would love to receive some mail.

This girl is remarkable. She has been through so much but still keeps up with school work and is very active in charity events. I can't even begin to imagine what she is going through but would like to be able to do anything I can to help. Sending cards is the one thing that I know I can do!

I know first-hand how kind people are on the disboards and I just wanted to put this out there. If you have the time to send a note of encouragement or a card I'm sure she would appreciate it, as would her mom. Here's the address as well as a link to her website:

As a way of introduction you can always put that you're a dis friend of Kathy's! :goodvibes

Thanks to any of you that decide to help out!!!!

Thanks to those of you who have posted and also to those of you who have kept this bumped up!

Emily is still having a very rough time:

Emily's mom posted on their site yesterday (4/18/06):

"I can't tell you how much the mail makes Emily's day - cards from every state! There are so many good people out there - taking the time to write wonderful words of inspiration and encouragement. Thank You for these gifts!"

I know a lot of this mail is coming from people here on the dis and I hope you know how much it is appreciated! I've always known how special the people around here are and I knew there would be so many of you willing to jump in and help! Thanks so much!!!

Hi Kathy -

I'm going to bump this up for you :wizard:

I saw the info on The Fireman Thread and I'm definitly going to send out a card. :) Thanks again for this info.

Thanks for sharing, Kathy. Will do. What a pretty young lady Emily is. She will be in my prayers, sure do wish her, and all those at St Judes and similar, the best.

Absolutely!!! I signed her guest book and will continue to read through her journal daily. How sad for such a beautiful young lady to have to go through at such a young age. My heart goes out to her and her family.

kathy,

What a sweet gesture from you (I'm not surprised!). Emily is a beautiful young girl and how about that Catherine, donating her marrow! Keith and I had a young friend named Emily who needed a bone marrow transplant and we signed up for that. Our Emily found a match, had the transplant a few months ago and is doing great!!! I hope your Emily does the same.

I will be praying for Emily and her family and sending a card too. Thanks for the link. It really bring her story to life and is very touching. I cried my way through it!

Hope you all are well and I hope I am not owing you a package...life's been crazy and I'm probably behind or something!! Oh! And Keith just went back to work from that surgery in January so the FF pic may now have a chance of happening. ORNL is very strict about all that stuff.
Thanks again for sharing your request.

Kathy, Is she able to receive stuffed animals? If so, I'll have one on the way to her very soon.

Thanks Brenda!

I think it's about time for A.J. to be sending the guys another letter!!! I didn't know about Keith having surgery. I hope all went well with that! I hope they get to do a FF pic soon!!!

Take care and thanks again!

She is able to receive them but right now she's not allowed to have them right in the room with her. As I understand it the way the room is set up, though, there is a parent's room right next to hers with a big glass seperating the two rooms. I'm sure they could set the stuffed animal up on the window sill for her to see until she is allowed to have them in the room with her. I plan to send one!!!

Thanks so much!!!

I have a 16 year old daughter. Hearing stories like Emily's makes me want to hug my kids right now. Prayers and best wishes to Emily and her family. I hope my card puts another smile on her pretty face. :goodvibes

I'll send a card off in the next day or two. Thanks for posting this.

Thanks SwedishMeatball! Whenever I check up on Emily (which is just about every day) it makes me realize how lucky we truly are for the health of our four children! That's something we should never take for granted!

Have a wonderful day!
