I need budget Christmas treat ideas to use up 6 cans of evaporated milk that will expire later this week.

I have to go to grocery store and by some eggs and butter but I wanted to see if theres anything else I need to pick up with any recipes you all post.

I already have a
-huge bag of regular sugar
-5 packs of almond bark (2 white choco and 3 choco)
-bag of pecans
-bag of flour
-huge bag of powdered sugar
-large jar of peanut butter

My kitchen aide is on the counter ready to go!!!!! thanks for any ideas :)

The canned milk will stay good a while after any printed date. Of course, this is a great time of year to make treats for the family. I have some evaporated milk also.

Does it have to be used on something sweet?

The hillbilly housewife website has some great ideas, from French toast, ice cream to some soups, to mace and cheese.

Now-I am of the opinion that the date on the can isn't an absolute date. Those cans have been sitting for probably 2years, so another week or two isn't going to impact the quality of what you are making.

I'm sorry, I cannot find an easy way to post links from my iPad, but in a google search, just search on hillbilly housewife evaporated milk

Thats good to know about the milk. I bought it at sam's/costco in bulk and figure Id use use but havent. i always get it mixed up with sweet condesed milk for those magic cookie bars-lol! I prefer to use it up for Christmas unless it will still be ok to use for Valentine's. With 6 cans I can just make extra goodies and buy some goodie bags from Dollar store and hand out xmas treat :)

Not sweet but I've made a broccoli cheese soup with evaporated milk. it tasted good and can be budget friendly. Freeze it for later if you don't want it now.

i make my home made mac and cheese in the crockpot with one can of evaporated milk.

I always freeze what is left over in the can that I don't use. I sort of separates when it thaws, but you can shake it up good to remix it. I do it all the time.

How about a batch or two of fudge? You would need some marshmallows and some chocolate. Looks like you have everything else.

How about sausage gravy over biscuits for breakfast Christmas morning? Use 1-2 cans of the evaporated milk in place of some of the regular milk. It makes it extra yummy! Also, You could make sausage and corn chowder. It uses a can of evaporated milk. It is delicious. Sorry I dont have any sweet treat ideas.

I think I use to make a fudge recipe called rocky road. It was good. Hubby Already went to the store :(

Maybe I'll just use it for food ideas.

I'm already making
brownies
-peanutbutter choco candy
2 different types of cookies
-white chocolate covered popcorn with pretzels
-mini cupcakes with buttercream frosting (maybe if time permits)

I think I already have way to much treats-lol!

Great thread! I have some left over too!

Have any of you used it in breakfast casseroles, like an an egg, cheese & sausage strata type dish? I'm thinking it may be a great addition!

If anyone has some great recipes please post. I would love a good mac n cheese recipe (no velvetta cheese though).lol!

You can use evaporated milk as regular milk in recipes if you dilute in a one to one ratio. It is really good to use in the crockpot as it does not curdle.

This is time consuming, but really cheap and pretty. Make a layered Christmas Jello. You can do as many layers as you like. Start by making the first layer with 1 packet gelatin, 1 cup boiling water and 1 cup evaporated milk. Pur into a 9x13 pan (or smaller if you want less layers). The second layer is the same color, but 1 packet gelatin, 1 cup boiling water, 1 cup cold water. Keep layering with alternating colors (red, green, can add others like yellow).

I made the fudge from the recipe inside the can label. I was going to cut it into pieces to give away because, since I'm diabetic, I won't be eating it. I refrigerated it but it never firmed up. It's thick frosting consistency, not suitable for gift-giving. I told the guys that it's ice cream topping.

I always use evaporated milk when making a cream sauce/béchamel base for mac and cheese, or any cream soup, and for use in say scalloped potatoes casserole butter/flour roux and then add milk and cook slowly to thicken.
