For three years in a row, we did a scavenger/souvenier hunt in Epcot's World Showcase. We skipped the scavenger hunt this past August because it was a semi-spur of the moment trip and I didn't have time to compile a good list.

Once, we did a scavenger hunt where the kids had to find certain items in the various countries and then take a picture of it. They each had a list and a disposable camera.

The second year, each kid had $30.00 and they had to find some really cheap souvenier in the various countries. The requirement was it had to have the country's name or logo on it. Whichever kid had accumulated the most souveniers at the end of the day was the official winner.

The third year, the whole family got in and we purchased a snack from each country. The snack had to be something that was pre-wrapped or easy to travel. While we waited for Illuminations to start, we sampled the various snacks from "around the world".

We've also done the smashed pennies, the passport and the kidcot stops. We've collected so many autographs it's not even funny!

We're down to one child now...an 12 year old boy. But, my husband and myself like to get in on the fun too. We've been to Epcot at least 20 times so it's getting harder and harder to think of unique things to look for.

I thought about doing a scavenger hunt in both World Showcase and Future World.

Any ideas for a different kind of scavenger hunt? Or, any out of the ordinary items to look for in each country that I could make a new list?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

How about doing a few of the new Kim Possible missions? That way you have a ready made sort of scavenger hunt.

How about a get-to-know-the-country hunt? He has to talk to a CM in each country and get three facts about that country - like what is the one thing you miss most about not being in your country? Or what's your favorite food from your country? Something like that.

If you do the food question, and they sell it in the country, you then all agree to try it. HTH.

Hi, Do you care to share your scavenger hunt search for certain items in each country?

I have to admit to having a thing for all of the silly and fabulously clever Disney hats...I make my kids pose in a bunch of hats in gift shops, countries, etc.

What about a hat pictorial...a pic in each country's hat, and also a hat pic in each ride-themed gift shop in Future world!

I also want to say that I read somewhere that there already exists a book of Disney scavenger hunts....of course I can't remember the name!

Please share what you come up with!

Absolutely no problem. Let me look through my computer and see if I can find the old list. Just give me a bit 'cause I think it's on my home computer. I'll post it as soon as I find it.

I was reading this thread with great interest but, hey, no list from mickeystoontown. :confused3

I wanted some ideas for a hunt for our 7 year old grandson when we go in October.

Oh shoot! I forgot. I promise to look for it today. Today is my boss's first day back at work after spending Christmas and New Year's in Spain so I know it'll be busy.

rather than a wrapped snack to go, I would start as far as possible from where you want to watch Illuminations and get a fresh snack (where available) in each country to share and nibble on. I think it gives you more of a reason to pause in each country and really look around.

I found one of the tips for scavenger hunts that I submitted to allearsnet and they posted it on their site:

I used all of the different guidebooks to get information on each country. I then made a scavenger hunt list using the information. When we got to Epcot, I gave each child their list and a camera. They were instructed to find as many items as they could on the list and take a picture of it. The list included: Find a Mexican artifact (Mexico); find a train (Germany); find a giant troll (Norway); find a drum (Japan); find a totem pole (Canada). Even Hunter, who was just 4 at the time, got in on the fun. (Of course, we had to read the list to him.) We had so much fun that we decided to continue on with our scavenger hunt theme. One year it was finding the Hidden Mickeys in each country -- kind of typical, but fun. Another year, we gave each child $20 and they were instructed to find a snack item in each country. The goal was to see if they could find an item in each country without going over their $20 budget. Actually, that scavenger hunt was fun for all of us because at the end of the day, we were able to sample all of the goodies. The next year, we again gave them a budget ($30), and they had to find an item in each country that had the country's name or symbol on it. The goal again was to find as many items as possible and not go over budget. Some of the items they purchased were antenna toppers, magnets, pins, postcards, etc. Yet another year, we gave them a list and a camera. This time they were to find something with an armadillo on it (Mexico); find something with a cat on it (Japan); find a giant soccer ball (United Kingdom); find a beautiful statue (France); find a cart selling glassware (Germany), etc. All of these scavenger hunts have encouraged the children (and my husband and me) to explore the various World Showcase countries and it also encouraged them to talk with the Cast Members.

I think I have another list somewhere but I have yet to find it. I'll keep searching though.....as a matter of fact, I'll make it my scavenger hunt for the day.

I like your ideas that you used for your scavenger hunt. Two years ago we did the Kim Impossible. I think you may like it. My boys liked it. We learned and saw things in Norway, for example, that we didn't even know was there.
