I've been looking on line for a hotel within walking distance to downtown disney and can't really tell if they are truly close enough to walk. We would prefer a suite hotel if possible. I've tried the Doubletree but it's a little more than we'd like to spend as this is a whirlwind weekend trip (our 3rd this year!). Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Only the hotels on Hotel Plaza are within walking distance from what I recall. Have you tried the Courtyard by Marriott as they offer good rates but I'm not sure if the have any suites.

Hi, did you know that mousesavers.com has a Doubletree rate of $99 nitely including bkfst?

That is the bets rate I've ever seen!

Herc.

Thanks Hercamore - I checked it out but those rates apparently aren't valid for the dates we're staying - I guess because of the holiday it's a bit higher - $139 with no breakfast

if you are staying anytime between Sunday & Thursday you can probably get 2 or 3 rooms for the price of a suite (check rates using the DISboard link http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/resort.htm ) (prices will be either, $25, 39 or 29 depending on the dates you stay if you stay Sunday thru Thursday minus Thanksgiving & maybe other dates). You wont have of course a ref/micr but will have lots of space & several bathrooms. They also offer a managers reception daily between 4 & 6 pm with free Budweiser, Bud lite & Coors lite, soda, punch, popcorn & nachos & salsa (if you want a cup of nacho cheese its only a dollar). The Marriott is alittle closer walking distance than the Doubletree suites & does offer shuttle service to DTD & the WDW parks.

Add me to the chorus of Courtyard Marriott, Lake Buena Vista fans! We had a fantastic stay, and the service was truly top notch!

Thanks everyone for the input - we are arriving on Oct 10 for just the weekend. Of course this is the holiday weekend and the rates are higher. I checked and the Courtyard rate is $340 for 3 nites - I was looking for something a little less expensive if I could. I have a little more time so i'll continue to look - if anyone has any other ideas, I'd love to hear them!

I'm just back from Hotel Royal Plaza and had a great time. This hotel is definitely within walking range of DTD (little less than 10 minutes.) HRP is a beautiful hotel. If you go through mousesavers.com, you can get a rate of $85 per night with breakfast included for 2 adults for the dates you are staying. The rooms are a generous size, so I don't think you would be crowded with two beds and a single size sleeper sofa. My husband and I really enjoyed this hotel and the breakfast at the restaurant was great! Please let me know if you need any more info. Good luck finding something suitable!
