Need Help On Ideas For Disney Themed Extreme Home

Some great ideas here. We found a lavender hardwood flooring that is sold in France. Its about $5 a square foot, which is twice what standard hardwood or laminate flooring is, but its PURPLE!!! Not as candyish, or even Disney, but how many people do you know who can say they have a purple hardwood floor??? :wizard: Its about that color! :wizard: Its an idea too. We considered the colored concrete idea, but I dont think our foundation or flooring joists will hold the weight. Our house has some bad moisture/water drainage problems. It seems to be moving from year to year! :scared: None of the doors in the old section of the house (by old I mean about 24 years) line up. I mean NONE of them. Thats also on our list of repairs. Gonna fix em as we reach em; room by room. We put up new gutters last week & new drainage pipes. Planning a new sumppump next week. I'm a plumber so it will be fixed soon. (Too busy fixing everyone elses water problems!) My wife insists NO SEAMS! She has to mop it (I do too occasionally... Yes, a man who cleans the house! <<I also do laundry, dishes, and grocery shop!>>)
The bird room sounds cool! Lots of cool ideas. Were enjoying them all! I appreciate the input. Who knows... someone else out there might be reading this and using the ideas too! One thing is certain, when we return for Mousefest... we will DEFINATELY be visiting the candy stores! I am definately going to do something with those rainbow lollipops too.
We have some large (8" tall or so) 3-D letters that are about an inch thick, and the fronts are shiny brushed brass. We originally planned to use them, but decided to save them for the playroom.

The concrete is only I think 1/4 inch thick it is done by durock the product is jewel stone you can see and read about it at www.durock.com there is other companies with the same stuff this is what we are using it also shows a video of it online on how to do it yourself .... worth taking a look at it. You could draw little hidden mickys in it! Whatever you decide I want to see pics this sounds so awsome! About the floor I was told if I do my Kitchen nothing has to be done it isnt any heavier then tile this stuff can be done on walls and everything we are thinking about doing our shower stall to make it look like outdoor stone in it.. it is done very thin but has the strength and look of real stone I will post pics of my floor when it is done next week

Colored concrete might be an idea afterall...

Off the subject:
I saw on a HGTV show once where they took a lot of different sized pieces of PVC pipe and cut them into thin "slices" and made a very interesting wall-art with them. Were gonna do that and make a hidden Mickey and shade it slightly off colored from the rest. Were gonna use one of the scraps of purple linoleum from our countertops as a background. Should be cool.
JUST FOR THE RECORD... Plumber speaking here... Speaking of PVC...NEVER use PVC or CPVC (that CRAP you glue with yellow glue) for your water supply ESPECIALLY if you live in colder areas. It doesnt expand during freezing tempertures; in fact... it becomes brittle. Its great for drain pipes, but NOT ideal for supplylines. When you see that on HGTV; think twice. Ask yourself who's sponsoring the show. Pay a plumber; use Pex. Save your floor. :thumbsup2
Back to the matter at hand...
This project seems to be stuck in mid air. Business picked up, and Ive been working a lot lately. I just dont like the idea of calling in people. I prefer the hands on personal touch of doing it myself. Still gathering ideas. Hopefully, we'll only do this once. I want to make sure its what we want.
I feel this thread is dying; so thanks to all who have contributed so far!

I cant wait to see pictures. How many rooms are in your house total? What are the plans for the other rooms?

What about having a wood floor but...in-lay. I know that you can buy pictures this way. The little piece of wood put together...to form shapes or designs. You can use many different types of wood for different coloring or have the wood colored. I work in an Amish shop, people have told me of old tables they have in the family that are pieced together and they last forever and are priceless......just an idea and I think it would be very unique but very time consuming.....good luck

If you went with a grey colored floor, you might be able to make the tiles like the shape of the tiles of the ball at epcot...

Its a relatively small house, and we are on a SERIOUS budget to be quite honest. Here's the rooms so far:
Den: Indonesian Rainforest <done!> :cool1:
Kitchen: Disney Candy
Little Bath: Beach (not too original) OBX to be exact
Big Bath: Plaza La Fiesta in Cancun Mexico
Hallway: Fast 111's collection (like Hot Wheels but made by Kenner from 1980-1982)
Bedroom: Morocco or Greek/Roman; unsure at moment
Daughter's: Princess (not too original... gimme time with that one... I want it a little more specific)
Son: probably will be Disney's Kingdom Hearts (waiting patiently for KH2; its on preorder) :rolleyes1
Closet: Clothing store
About the closet: it WAS our den, now its a giant closet. It has HUGE commercial clothing racks, and EVERYONE's clothes are in one room! Every shirt, shorts, pants, dresses, coats, hats, belts, ties, you name it: its in the closet. Everything but my socks, which I like in a drawer at the foot of the bed. Great for organization, but it has flaws too.
