We have been given the choice to either stay at the Contemporary in the Wing or a one bedroom villa at Old Key west. The key west is actually about half the price (someone I know has a reservation they cannot use and has offered it to us). I was looking forward to the ease of the CR with my DS 4, but then again a 1 bedroom villa would be nice since its DH, DS myself and my mother. Suggestions please

You've posted this question on the DVC board, so naturally you will find that most people here will say to take OKW.

I don't know anything about the wings at the Contemporary. Are they multi-room suites? How many beds?

You would probably really enjoy the space and comforts of OKW, but if it is a short stay, and you are only going to MK, then it is hard to beat the convenience of the Contemporary.

You can't go wrong either way, but personally we'd save the money and opt for OKW.

Since I don't mind spending other people's money and based on who is in your group, I'd pick the CR. At the CR each of you will be able to have his/her own bed. A 1BR at a DVC resort has a king sized bed and a pull out sofa and cots are not supplied. At the CR, I believe there should be two beds and a day bed. Those rooms at the CR are very large too. If it was the three of you, I'd say do OKW but since you also have your mother with you, I'd go to the CR.

For less money, I would do the 1 bedroom at OKW. While it is true that you can't get a cot, the little one will be very comfortable using the sofa cusions for a bed, or might even find it an adventure to sleep oon the love seat.

The full kitchen will be very convenient, and bus service is more than adequate from OKW, so you are still only about 10 minutes from the MK.

The OKW 1 bedroom is huge. Your mom would be sleeping in the other room, which would give you and your dh a little privacy. Your 4 year old could have his own little cozy space in the closet, if you wanted. In the morning, you walk out and pour some coffee from your own coffee maker, grab a bite to eat--no having to get dressed first...much more relaxing in my opinion! Depending on how long you're traveling, the washer/dryer is handy as well. The bus from OKW to MK will drop you off at the door, which is almost as fast as the monorail, just not as exciting.

Watch out though if you do it---you may never settle for another regular hotel room again.

Having stayed in the garden wings before I can say that the walk to the MK can't be beat. It is much faster than taking the monorail to the park and probably almost as fast as taking the monorail back to the hotel. I don't no what the transportation is like to the other parks because we drove to them.

And as others have said you will have two beds at the Contemporary and just one with the sofa bed at OKW. But the convenience of all that extra space is a great perk.

I must add we were not thrilled with the decor at the Contemporary. It's just a little to retro for our liking, but it is a great resort.

Good luck with your decision,
Lori

If it was a choice between an OKW studio and a CR room I'd go with CR. One bedroom vs a hotel room with no effort to MK and on the monorail is a much tougher choice.

I'd say if you are planning on being in the parks most of the time you are there I'd go with CR. You've got the monorail, you can get busses to virtually everywhere out of the MK. If you are planning to kick back and relax your way through the "world" I'd go with the one bedroom and work out the dynamics of the sleeper sofa by using a sleeping bag for your son or an airmattress for your mother.

we just got back from OKW, and had our 2 sons in the pull out sofa (which was very comfy!). Well - they ended up fighting - so one slept on the loveseat with the extra sheets we had, and the other got the pull-out couch, and they traded off everynight. my DS's are 6 and almost 8, and are very tall for their ages, and they had no problems making a bed out of the loveseat.
We really enjoyed the washer and dryer, the full kitchen, and all the space!!!! I'd say with 5 of you - go OKW.

That's a toughie! But what a pleasant decision to be making.

1000+ square feet, washer/dryer, jacuzzi, full kitchen, lovely pastel decor, privacy for you in the bedroom (and for Mom in the living room), very relaxing

OR

400+ square feet, two queens and daybed, 10 minute walk to MK or monorail ride that could take 15 minutes

I'm no help -- both choices are wonderful. We've stayed at both and love the peacefulness and SPACE of a 1 BR at OKW, but we don't spend much time at the parks. Mom may decide to just sleep on the sofa without opening it up.

If you don't have a car, some people find it a bit less convenient to be at OKW because it's so spread out, especially if you want to eat in different places at night. But others ask to be close to the main building and restaurant and don't see this as any problem. The CR has easy access to WL, Poly, and GF for meal choices.

Good luck and have a great trip!

There is absolutely no way that a TRANSPORTATION issue would convince me to book a standard hotel room over a DVC One Bedroom. We have small children, so we make at least four trips daily (to the parks and back in the AM, then again in the evening). The handful of minutes we might (emphasize MIGHT) save moving around each day from a Monorail resort is meaningless compared to the luxury of an OKW room.

I could care less that it takes me 20 minutes to get to the Magic Kingdom vs. 2 minutes at CR. When I'm spending 50-60% of my vacation time indoors, I'll take 1100 sq ft over 350 sq ft any day of the week.

If you are interested in having a trip with a real Disney-feel to it, I would choose CR...you are just in the heart of the Disney Magic - on the monorail, close to MK, monorail to EPCOT - to me it is the ultimate in feeling and experiencing Disney up-close!

That being said, the accommodations are very nice at OKW - much more room, but you are distant from the parks, and may not feel a part of Disney.

They each have their pro's and con's - it's all about what you are looking for...good luck!
