Please help DIS experts!

Okay, my family and I are booked at Fort Wilderness in the Cabins from 7/17-7/21. We booked under my friend's cast member room only discount, giving us 50% off. That is the only way we can stay at this resort, rack rate is way to expensive for us.

We have paid the reservation off in full. My friend just informed me that she is quitting Disney Store and that she will give her two weeks notice this coming Monday. Considering that our vacation is so close (and that it cuts into the end of her two weeks notice), I am a little stressed! :badpc:

The reservation clearly states that the cast member needs to present her cast member ID upon check-in, otherwise we would have to pay rack rate for the resort. I'm sure she will still have her ID, but I guess I am concerned whether or not it would be "active." Do they swipe it or something to see if she is currently employed? We wouldn't be going before her two weeks notice are up, I'm just trying to prepare for if they "de-activate" her from the system. I don't know if this is even a possibility.

Also, if worst case scenario happens and we have to make changes when we arrive at the resort, how does this work? Could I change my reservation to a value resort at rack rate and apply my payments towards it? Or am I stuck? What are my options at that point?

I keep reading this when I search: "There is no time limit on when you can make modifications to an existing CRO reservation with no additional charge. This can be done right up to arrival. "

Does that include changing to a different resort?

Thanks for all of your help friends!! :grouphug:

Usually when you leave a company, you are required to turn in your badge, so I would change your reservation, removing the employee discount from the scenario. As long as the reservation is room only, you shouldn't have any cancellation fees. Just call now and explain the situation.

Best of luck!

Each time someone checks in under a CM discount the CM ID is scanned. There is only 1 time out of the 20 or more I have stayed on my CM discount that I think it wasn't scanned. For all I know he did scan it though because they had my ID. That was at ASM. Every where else it was made very clear they needed to scan my ID.

Disney Stores policy is that on the last day IDs and name badges are surrendered. Even if her two weeks is in the beginning of your vacation if she won't be working they will make her turn over her ID on the last day she works. That is how they did it when I left Disney Store even though I was still employed with in the Disney company as I still worked seasonally for the parks.

If you arrive at the ID scans as invalid (it will if she has been official purged for the system) then they will let you know what is due. They may be able to offer you a discounted rate but it will not be the 50%. Depending on when you go they may not have rooms at the values to let you move down.

Just trying to prepare you for the worst since it will all depend on when your friend is actually let go since they can process everything before her two weeks especially if she is going on vacation during that time.

Have you discussed this with her? She should find out what happens since she made the reservation for you.

Pretty much this.

OP, If her ID is deactivated at the time of check in they will bump you to full price. Public discounts for resorts are typically discontinued before the travel dates occur, so they won't have a discount they can apply.

They may allow you to switch resorts to a lower cost place, but it's not a guarantee they a)will or b) that anything will be available.

I'd personally change to something you can afford on your own. If she still has her ID they WILL check the number. As an aside, is your friend going with you? If you're under the CM discount she will need to be present at check in.

Hi Debbie,

When we spoke, she was under the impression that it wouldn't be a problem and that her id would still work. This is her first time booking a resort with the CM discount though, so I was wondering if anybody here had more experience .

Yes, she is coming with us.

So, am I at Disney's mercy then whether or not they could switch the resort?

Sounds like you need to know if she's going to be working through her notice. If she is, she'll still have her ID and will show as working. I'm not expert, but that's what I'm getting from all of this. It's what I would want to know if I were in your shoes.

Well, she will be working through her notice. Let's put it this way: we have 15 days until our vacation starts. She will put in her notice at 10 days until our vacation. Our vacation is 5 days long. So we leave before the end of her 2 weeks notice but we arrive just as they end. So the fear is that they just remove her from the system before we leave.

If she is scheduled to work during your stay and she is still active your check in day you are fine. Now if She gives her two weeks notice and say she took vacation for those 5 days you are at Disney they will probably just say okay so work next week and then you can turn in your ID before you leave for vacation.

Also she could give her 2 weeks and they decide to fire her right then instead. Disney Store employees are "at will" employees which means that you can quite or be fired with no notice and the company can not do anything about it. However, if you do not give a 2 weeks notice it could look poorly on your friend if they ever want to work with the Disney company in any fashion at a later date.

OP, you are in a bad situation.
I would start looking for new options for a place to stay during your trip right now and cancel those CM discount reservations. Look on Mousesavers for anything in DTD or see if there is anything at Bonnett Creek. I don't think you'll find any Disney discounts this close to your dates unless someone has an AP.

Potentially, yeah. I don't believe the resorts share their revenue with each other. They could say you need to cancel and rebook at the other resort, which means you could get hit with some steep fees. They could just check and switch it around. There could be no availability at a cheaper resort since it's the middle of the summer.

There's a ton of possibilities.
