Need advice on waitlist please....

Currently have 2 reservations (near end of April) at BLT. First res is 3 nights MKV.....second res 3 nights BLV (only because MKV not available those following 3 nights). I put in a waitlist for those last 3 nights for a MKV.

Here's my question.....

I check the availability (using the DVC website tool) constantly to see if those nights are opening up at all. A couple weeks ago the last TWO nights opened up....leaving just ONE night in a BLV (which would be in the middle of the trip).
I didn't call and change it (worrying that we might be stuck moving rooms for one evening). But now I'm thinking I would have a much better shot of getting that ONE evening (a Saturday night FYI), had I grabbed those last two nights....

I'm going to keep checking to see if those nights open up again and will likely book if they do.....but curious your thoughts.....would you take that chance?

One night is easier to get than multiple nights. But are you really willing to take the chance of moving in the middle and then moving back? That's never very appealing to me, so when I've wait listed I've usually done the all or nothing approach.

Have you tried putting in a wait list for just that one Saturday night...at least then you would have 4 and 2 vs. 3 and 3.

I did that once and slowly was able to fill the entire trip. As soon as the one came through, I added the 5th night as a single waitlist.

I was willing to move for my last night if I had to so I took the gamble. It paid off as I ended up with all 4 nights in the room and the exact view I wanted.

Now, I did email MS to make sure things were listed correctly so that if the one night came through, it only canceled one night of the alternative reservation, not the whole thing, even though I set it up online like that.

If I had extra points, I would have booked the last two nights that opened up, and just waitlisted/checked the availability tool for the one missing night. If it became available, I would have cancelled the reservations for the 3 lake view nights.

If I did not have enough points, I would do what you did. No way I would want to move to 3 different rooms on a 6 night trip!

Now I'm kicking myself that I didn't grab those last two nights when I had the chance!!


Sandisw......I'm going to take my chances and try waitlisting one night at a time.....not sure I'm clear on how tho. Do I keep my second res for the 3 nights and then do two separate waitlists? One for Saturday night and one for the last two nights?

And can I do all this via the web or do I need to call MS?

Keep the one that you have and then just add the 2nd one for the 1st night. When you set it up, be sure to indicate, when you say yes to cancel, the you put in only the first night to cancel from your existing 3.

I'd then follow up with a call and/or email to MS to make sure its don't correctly. You can just call and have them do it.

If that first night comes through, then you would cancel the 3 night and redo it as a two night and another one night. Hopefully, this will help you to get all 6!
