Navy Seal Chases Down the Killers of his dog.

The point is, is that he could have reported the license plate number AND shot out the tires. There was no need for a prolonged chase.

Shooting out the tires at that speed could have resulted in the same as shooting them. Maybe worse.

This has to be one of the worst threads I've read on the DIS. Why do you people think it's ok to drive at speeds in excess of 100mph? Who cares what time of the day or night it is. There are still people out and about for perfectly good reasons. Since when do we live in a world that requires all law abiding people to be in their homes and locked down at 2am? Remember that next time you call an ambulance....don't call at 2am when you're having a heart attack because some idiot might be out chasing down a suspected criminal. It would be more appropriate if you called at say 7am if you're still alive. Ohh and for all the people that work second and thirds shifts....well just camp out at your workplace because you shouldn't be outside at 2am. :confused3 Someone tell me why are WalMart and Walgreens open 24/7? Ohh wait it's because not all people live on the same schedule!

As for his Seal training...if he still wants to use those skills in his NON-military life then I suggest he become a police officer. Everyone acts as if he can do no wrong just because he WAS a Seal. I'm sorry he lost his friends and lost his dog to idiots but he had no right to break the law while chasing them down. The dispatcher should be reprimanded for not telling him to back off when she heard he had a gun and that he was driving so fast. I thank God our dispatchers here have a brain!

As for those that think he should have shot all the people in the car......well I pray your child, brother, sister, spouse, father, mother, friend is never in the wrong place at the wrong time. Not to mention I hope none of you live in my state!

Glad you live in lala land then! Just curious, what is your opinion on the actual criminals here that murdered his dog and other dogs over the course of the past month? You single Marcus out as being the bad guy. That has to be the worst thing I've personally read on this thread of course.

Shoot out the tires while driving 100mph. That happens only in the movies. ;)His pick up truck didn't go as fast as their car. He could see their tail lights up ahead.

I did not read thru the entire thread, but I saw the show where Glenn had Marcus on his show to tell his story about DASY.

My first thought was My Goodness, that man needs Help and fast, he was talking as though he was still in a war zone and honestly, I was scared for HIM! He talked about crawling thru his trees to see what was going on and he had his gun, but not a clear shot???? Seriously, it was scary to listen too...The impression I got was that he may not be stable. Its just what my interpretation was as to what I saw him say and what he said that he did. I was listening and thinking that he really needs help to deal with the situation....really is such a sad situation for him to be in.....
He has been thru Hell for this country and my heart aches for the injuries he has sustained both physically and emotionally. I truly hope he is getting all the help he needs and deserves to live his life in a healthy way. I was so touched by his heartbreaking story and the sadness of the losses he witnessed.
Those poor other families!! So tragic!:grouphug:

Now as far as the Pond Scum :sad2:that killed his beloved dog and others, they should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. No leniency as they do not deserve it. I'd say they are animals, but that would be an insult to all the real animals out there.
Lets hope the media coverage will keep the pressure on this case and in the spotlight so the publics' outrage will not be forgotten.
Meanwhile has he gotten another pet to love???
God Bless ALL our military, in the war zones and at home, they ALL deserve our respect!
RIP DASY!

He heard gunshots and went to investigate. Why wouldn't he be crawling through trees. I think that if he wanted to shoot them, he would have. He lost his beloved pet after having been through more than most of us will ever deal with, and yet, he sounded calm, and in control during the entire 911 tape I heard. Now he has been thrust into the media spot light and that can't be easy.

Holy over-reaction Batman!

She did not single Marcus out as being the bad guy. Of course the criminals who slaughtered a helpless dog have that role. I think the point is he made a decison to cunduct a high speed chase - speeds over 100 mph)over three counties. That is ludicrous to think that that is the job of someone not in law enforcement. I am happy the guys were caught, but if he was clsoe enough tto know for a fact that these jerks were the perps, then he could have called 9qq and given a license plate number and let the police do thir job.

But to characterize that poster as making like Marcus was THE bad guy, please...give her a break.

I don't think it's the poster you quoted living in an alternate reality, but there are those here that do.

Killing someone (and the three people with him) for killing a pet is not justified in any state in the union, sorry.

The bad guys here are criminals, no doubt. They get no sympathy, nor should they get any leniency. But that's a seperate issue from the horrible judgement used to engage in this pursuit. By a civilian. With no high speed pursuit training. With a car that was not equipped for such chases, nor equiped with the proper emergency lights and sirens.

I'd feel the same no matter who it was.

The point is that we can't let criminals run around shooting at things and not chase them.
The reasons we shouldn't have criminals running around shooting at things should be obvious, I'd think.

I'd chase them down for a car, too. Me, it would be a minor inconvenience. But some people would have their life torn apart because of that.

This attitude of, "Well, we have to let the criminals do what they do because going after them might be dangerous" is ridiculous and leads to more criminal behavior.

This is the only rational statment that makes charging Latrell worthwhile.

There's really no room for this kind of vigilantism.

Yeah, I know. Those poor misunderstood kids. They were only up to some clean wholesome fun when some crazy, irrational wild man put everyone at risk by racing his car at high speeds. He should be the one standing in front of the judge. :rotfl2: Fortunately, you were not in a position to make the decision as to who would be charged that night!

It's telling that you can't see that these are two very different issues.

No one is saying anything positive about the suspects here. It's not one or the other.

I wouldn't want Latrell charged. But It it's an incredibly irresponsible thing for a person to do, put the public at large in danger by going on a high speed chase over the death of a pet.

there are unstable individuals, armed and firing a loaded weapon, and we're questioning whether having a trained individual chase them is a good idea:confused3 I'm pretty sure that I'd be more worried about the guys discharging their firearms around my neighborhood than the man giving chase. Somebody has to catch these types of thugs so that they can be brought to justice.

Why do you think police and fire vehciels have lights and sirens? You seem to think that it's unnecessary.....

Which part are you doubting? The training is a fact.
I've thought through this rationally and yes, I sleep well at night knowing exactly what Marcus did thank you. I wish we had more men like him in the world actually. Maybe the next time someone thinks about killing a dog they think twice now.

Guess what folks nothing bad happened because Marcus chased the car. No imaginary kids were killed, no goats were run over, no houses plowed into. Geez get over it.

This is what kills me about people lately. Why are we not focused on why these idiot teenagers were out killing dogs for the past month in the middle of the night instead of attacking the person who finally stopped it?

No it's not.

There's also that little thing called experience. No matter who's trained in what, if you don't use it you lose it.

I'd want the dog killing thugs tried for his murder. He wouldn't have been chasing them if they hadn't of killed his dog.

But my family wouldn't be out that late unless it was a true emergency.

I am so sick and tired of criminals getting away with everything. Once you rape someone, you are put away for good. Once you drive drunk and kill someone you should be put away for good. Too many second chances are given to criminals in our world when their victims don't get a second chance.

I'm a huge animal lover and if someone shot my dog I certainly wouldn't have just jotted down the license plate number and called the police. I would have gone after them. If the police did their job correctly they should have been at the scene and taken over for Marcus. I don't understand what took so long?

Welcome to the real world. With shrinking budgets, police response times have to suffer.

Did Marcus kill any of the guys? No, I'm not sure why that statement was thrown in.

I'm glad you agree that the criminals are the ones that killed the dogs. I was beginning to think the world had gone mad.

Lets face it we all dont make smart choices but man if I lived in a world where "what if" was thrown into question every time I did something I would never do anything. I wouldn't even drive to the grocery store!!

I'm glad he acted and I'm glad it turned out alright.

I'm sure Marcus did what he thought was right....if this was my dog, shot on my property, I don't know that I could have shown the same restraint. Perhaps this will give idiots with the same mo a second thought about killing other people's animals. I've had a step-son die in an automobile accident at 22 yrs old. He will be gone 7 yrs this Monday. It was a freak accident. If this was his dog...he'd have done the same thing as Marcus. Unfortunately...bad things happen in this world. We don't have any control over our surroundings...WELCOME TO THE REAL WORLD.....

Because many posts here have advocated just that.

But we don't know if they killed the dog even. That's what a trial is for. It looks like two have been charged. Let's hope that they are now convicted.

I think Marcus is the one who deserves the break here.

Ok thought you were speaking to something I had specifically said. And at least we agree on your last point! :thumbsup2

I think Marcus is the one who deserves the break here.

He certainly does. And he's getting it.

He won't be charged even though what he did was, at best, reckless driving.

Pointing out that he used horrible judgement and did a very dangerous thing. placing others in danger, is all that people are saying.
