Hi, I have an Amazon Fire tablet, when it comes to downloading the Navigator App am I going to be able to use the Amazon Fire tablet or am I going to have to get a smart phone? Thanks to everybody.

Once you have the app, you just need a device that connects to the internet. On the ship, you connect to the ship internet to view stuff in the app.

That sounds like a Fire would work, then. Thanks for asking this question, B0m5jgr -- I hadn't thought of using a Fire but some of the people we're traveling with don't have phones, so this is a great idea!

Make sure you can download it from Amazon's app store before you leave. My daughters have Amazon Fires and not every app they want is in their store.

I just downloaded this on my iPad. It doesn't seem like I can do anything with app right now. Does it only become useful when onboard?

Download the app now. It'll work as a countdown timer until you get on the ship.

Pretty much. You have to be connected to the wifi labeled DCLGuest and then it becomes more useful - it shows the Daily Navigator events, dining menus, shows, movies, character appearances, etc. It also gives you facts about the ship and facts about the port you stop at.

Hi, I'm not very computer savvy, how do you download the navigator app using the amazon fire? Even though my cruise is not until next year. Thanks

You would go to Amazon's version of their App Store, I'm not sure what it's called but I can find out later, to download the app. But I do not know if they offer it or not. My two daughters have Amazon fires and not every app they want is available to download. But you could ask the developers actually if you have a year to go, maybe others have asked to if it's not there. Good luck!

Hi, I just tried to download the navigator app on my amazon fire using the apple iTunes site and I'm getting an error either non-compatible device or Android mobile device that isn't linked to your google account. Apps from google play can't be installed on non-android devices. Thanks

For the Amazon Fire, you cannot go to the iTunes Store or the Google Play store. It has to be Amazon's version of their app store. I think it may just be called the App & Games.store. If the Navigator app isn't available, you could actually contact the developers to request it, since it's a year away. Who knows, maybe they'll add it if it's not there. Never hurts to try!

Or maybe someone can loan you an old ipod or old smartphone they're no longer using. Those can be used on wifi only. Not sure which operating system you would need on those devices, though. I have a very old iPad, and i cannot update the operating system to be the current one.

Thanks so much for asking. I make my kids put away electronics once we get on board and was super bummed to hear that the full navigator is now available only via electronics. However, I do have Kindle Fire also so will set that up as our navigator. Hopefully I can write out the important stuff then sock it away in the safe each day.

ETA: I couldn't get the above link to actually download the app. I'm going to put in a request to Disney and Amazon. I honestly can't imagine trying to go through the navigator on my tiny phone. :(

Just got off the Fantasy and we had nothing but problems with the app. It continually crashed, it wouldn't load, messages wouldn't send and if they did send sometimes weren't received until hours or in 2 cases days later. When it worked, it is very easy to navigate the times and all, and is sorted in a way that make it functional. our problem was it didn't work 95% of the time. I would go with the idea of a back up.

So out of curiosity, how much more daily activity info is on the app rather than the old paper one? What sort of info is not included in the paper one now?

FYI - you can get the Google Play store on your Fire, and without jail-breaking it. A Fire is an Android device; Amazon just monkeys with it to make it easier for you to shop and consume/buy digital content from them.

If you are not computer-savvy, it might seem a little intimidating at first blush. But it really isn't hard, especially if you have a tech-savvy friend or family member to help. I've done this with three Fires we have around the house, and while there are a few apps that may not work properly, I'd say 95% of everything I've downloaded from Google Play works just fine.

Post-script: I just installed the DCL app on a Fire, and it appears to be working as it should.

Of course I'm hoping that you also have a mobile phone, you can definitely download the navigator from the Google Play Store or Itunes store for free, it will give you all the features you want if your Fire Tablet doesn't support the app. If you aren't using a active mobile phone, you can consider maybe finding someone you know or in your family that might have a old cell phone that is deactivated and they're not using, that you can borrow for the cruise. as long as you can connect to WiFi you can download the app and use it on the ship using the ship's WiFi service (just for the navigator not for regular internet activity). That's all I can suggest.

Thanks I will give it a try. My eyesight has really gone downhill in the past year and I have trouble seeing things on my phone.
