National - $250 drop off fee to rent from CCC and return to MCO

I have an existing reservation with National picking up a car from CCC and returning 8 days later to MCO (Sat-Sun). Used KLM code and have a reservation booked. I am considering renting the car the following day at Car Care Center (pick up Sun instead of Sat but still return Sun) from CCC and returning it 7 days later. When I checked starting as a new reservation the extra day charge dropped off of reservation but now the reservation is adding a $250 drop off fee (which is not on my original reservation). If I include the original dates, there is still a $250 drop of charge.

If I call National and ask to change my pick up date (rent 7 days instead of 8) will my reservation now be charged a $250 drop off fee? I don't really want to lose my current reservation. Rather pay the extra $45 dollars for a day not needed than a $250 drop off fee.

I just tried a Sun-Sun rental with MCO as pickup/dropoff, then CCC as pickup and MCO as dropoff, and didn't get that dropoff fee. I chose early September, thinking maybe your trip is really soon, and that's why?

But I thought I've read here that FL is a state that doesn't allow one-way extra fees?

Is it maybe the code that's causing the problem? Have you tried it without a code, or with a different code?


I keep hoping someone else will pop in with an actual answer, but curiosity got the best of me and I had to try the booking. But not knowing the dates means I'm not checking out exactly what's happening in your case.

I have noticed that some code give a drop fee and some do not. Of course hitting a drop fee more than wipes out any savings from the code No real advice except keep trying different ones unitl you get a rate that you like. Good luck!

Check rates for pick-up from Alamo or National (same cars - choose the cheapest) at the Dolphin.

You can pick up a car from National within 24 hours of your original reservation & hold your rate per week or day. The charges will be corrected at the end to reflect yourr actual usage. This is what I was told by National in February with my rental when my flights didn't exactly match the car reservation I had guess at the previous February & it all worked as they said it would! I have never been charged a drop charge in Florida!
