I have a problem with this. It strikes me funny that a mother will profit from the disappearance of her daughter. The movie is based on her book, Loving Natalee: A Mother's Testament of Hope and Faith. She's already made money from the book.

The adverts say it's a movie every parent must see. Hello, we did see this on the news for years. The only people who haven't seen anything about the case live in caves and I doubt this movie is a must see for them.

If my daughter disappeared, I'd put myself in front of the cameras like Beth Twitty did.

However, after this much time has passed and my child would be presumed dead, and Natalee is presumed dead, I would not keep pimping my tragedy for a buck.

There was so much news coverage of Natalee's disappearance I don't see what the movie is going to offer. :confused3 Also, there hasn't been an official resolution of this case, has there? So what will be the conclusion?

Much rather spend my time viewing the Disboards than that movie.

I dont get it, what is the movie supposed to be about? Are they going to show the daughter being kidnapped? If so, why would a mother want that put on television. Maybe this movie is supposed to be a cautionary tale

Perhaps her thinking is that a movie is going to be made, whether she likes it or not. Given the comments about how little point there is to such a movie, it is likely that if she authorizes (and therefore controls) one made, then it is possible that others (which she does not control) won't get made.

In the end, even that doesn't matter. Her authorizing this movie getting made doesn't hurt anyone, and there is no on else who is a more rightful position to authorize the making of the movie. I wish her good luck with her endeavor.

I agree w/ Bicker. Might as well get the true story out rather than the tabloid ones.

Also--maybe it is cathartic for her. A way to write her thoughts and try to get some closure:confused3

How do we know the $$ doesn't go to charity, or foundation. Many people do this. Look at John Walsh--he made a ton of $$, and a career from his son's disappearance, but has also done a great deal of good.

I googled and there is a foundation, set up by her father. Maybe the $$ goes there.

I don't have a problem with the mom writing a book or doing a movie. I'm sure this mother has spent thousands and thousands of dollars searching for her daughter, hiring lawyers, etc. I can't imagine the kind of money they have had to put out to try to find out who did this. She didn't ask for her daughter to be missing. I think we would have to do the same in her situation. I have other kids to raise and would still want to afford to keep searching.

I don't have a problem with it. It's actually a good way to keep Natalee and the case in people's minds. I still can't imagine what this poor mother has gone through.

I don't have any problem with it. I think the Mom probably wants the movie to represent the facts of the diappearance. I also don't have any problem with her profitting from the movie, she has probably spent untold amounts of money in the search for her daughter. I would rather see the profits go to her or a charity rather than some stranger who just writes a story about Natalee.

As far as I can tell the mother doesn't believe, for sure, her daughter is dead.
And a long-term search like that is very expensive. It wouldn't surprise me if every penny from that book and movie finance the investigation of unlikely leads that the mother just cannot pass up in the hopes it will lead her to her daughter.
I guess I understand that at some level.

That's what I was thinking. Maybe the money from the movie will go to a very worthwhile children's charity of some sort. I hope that is the case.

I don't have a problem with the movie. Maybe she is just trying to keep it in the minds of young girls that may be going somewhere to be careful. I can't imagine what she is going through.

I have to admit when I saw the commerical for the movie I thought it strange. I did not feel like the parents should not profit, because I do not know for a fact they are profitting. They might have wanted to have their story put out to make more aware of what could happen. Or at least I like to hope that is what the reason maybe. I still find it strange. I can not explain why I do but I do. It might be what others have said, that it has been so publized.

While I doubt that I will watch the movie, I have no problem with Beth continueing to keep her "missing/presumed dead" daughter in the news. If one of my children were missing, I'd still be standing in front of news cameras years later, too--hoping that someone somewhere would finally crack and tell me where to find her. That family deserve peace--not criticism. With all Beth Twitty has lost (not only her daughter, but also her marriage) any money she makes can't even begin to balance the scales of justice.

No problem with it here. I would never judge someone who has gone through such hard times.:thumbsup2

I also get the idea that she wants to warn other kids, so they won't end up like Natalie. Teens don't think about safety, and the same thing could happen to them in a local bar - you don't have to leave the country to find scum who will take advantage of you if you're not thinking straight. :(

If it saves some other child from the same fate, then it would be worth it.

My babysitter graduated the year after Natalie, and her mom offered her a deal instead of going on a senior trip. She'd take her anywhere she wanted, just the two of them. They went on a cruise to Alaska and loved it. Now my girls want a "special trip with mom" for graduation, and not a trip with their friends. :goodvibes (I know...they can change their minds in 6-8 years, but I think the two of us alone could go somewhere way cooler than just to the beach, which is what the kids around here do...)

I agree with this. I know I did some really, really stupid things back in the day and was simply more lucky than Natalee. Maybe someone who does watch it will think twice before making foolish decisions.

I think until you have lived through her nightmare then you don't really know what you would do or how you would do it. I hope I never have to try and figure it out (and surely doubt if I do that the opinion of some random people on message boards will matter much at all).
