Natalee Holloway movie

I don't have a problem with the mom writing a book or doing a movie. I'm sure this mother has spent thousands and thousands of dollars searching for her daughter, hiring lawyers, etc. I can't imagine the kind of money they have had to put out to try to find out who did this. She didn't ask for her daughter to be missing. I think we would have to do the same in her situation. I have other kids to raise and would still want to afford to keep searching.

I don't have a problem with it either. I can't imagine the pain she is going through and I'm sure she would rather have her daughter back than make one dime off the book/movie. :sad1:

Certainly I have nothing but sympathy for Natalee and her parents. I don't fault them for making a movie, and I can understand their motivations, but I'm not going to watch it. I don't think anyone on this thread has said they're going to watch it, either.

How are they going to portray the kidnapping/disappearance/murder(?) if no one knows how or what happened? :confused3

That's a good question. Will they make-up an ending? Or will the movie end exactly the way it really ended....with not knowing exactly what happened?

I think I would probably watch it.

I don't have a problem with the movie. Maybe she is just trying to keep it in the minds of young girls that may be going somewhere to be careful. I can't imagine what she is going through.

I kind of think that is probably her intention to educate girls on being on safe during vacations.

I have a problem with this. It strikes me funny that a mother will profit from the disappearance of her daughter. The movie is based on her book, Loving Natalee: A Mother's Testament of Hope and Faith. She's already made money from the book.

The adverts say it's a movie every parent must see. Hello, we did see this on the news for years. The only people who haven't seen anything about the case live in caves and I doubt this movie is a must see for them.

If my daughter disappeared, I'd put myself in front of the cameras like Beth Twitty did.

However, after this much time has passed and my child would be presumed dead, and Natalee is presumed dead, I would not keep pimping my tragedy for a buck.

I would much rather see the family making money from this, than someone else.

Also, I hear the ending sucks.

I'm sorry, that is hilarious! I just hope they make it a musical comedy.

Since no one knows what happened how would you even make the movie. It would then have to be a fictional tale BASED on her story. If they knew who did what in order to make a movie they would prosecute the people who killed her.

People die every day and none is more tragic than any other. Fell free to laugh about whatever brings about my eventual demise, I won't mind.

Why should anyone make money off a tragedy? To me, it's more disgusting that her own family will profit. You expect the media to be slimy. Her dad is the one with the foundation. He wrote a book too and ALL of the money from his book goes to the Natalee Holloway Foundation.

Her mother started one-http://www.internationalsafetravelsfoundation.org/MS/MS10/index.php - but all you get is this page is under construction. It's been that way for awhile.

Maybe the story will be told from the mother's POV.

Thats what I'm guessing. It just may be a story about what she herself went through, not neccesarily what happened to Natalee.

I don't consider it slimy for her to write about what she as a mother went through when her daughter disappeared. That has been done by parents of missing or murdered children time and time again. Maybe its even part of the healing process so that they can move on even when they don't know what really happened. I would never judge her for selling her story especially if can help even one family who is going through something similiar. I also know that this is the real world and she as a mother sacrificed everything so that she could be part of the search and investigation, and feel she is the only one who should ever profit from her story.

What did Beth Twitty sacrifice in order to search for her child? Wouldn't you search for your child? I would never consider anything that I did in order to try to find my child a sacrifice. How will her story save anyone? Would you any of us want to profit from the disappearance of our children?
Everyone I know has always told their children to be wary of strangers. That's the lesson to take from this and it's one that we should learn as toddlers-not one we'll learn from a made for tv movie.

I do not begrudge this woman any money. Even if she did it solely for profit, that'd be fine with me. No reason she shouldn't. Turning down the offers for money won't bring her daughter back - she might as well take a little good with all the bad she's had.

And it sure as hell isn't going to hurt anyone.

But I'll bet they're still hoping for answers and thinking the movie will push someone in that direction.

Thats your opinion and you are entitled to it, I just happen to feel differently.
Sacrificing is the giving up of something for the sake of something else. So by definition, something as simple as the normal life you live, or your marriage can be a sacrifice. It doesn't mean a parent shouldn't be willing to do what it takes to find their child, and I don't believe Beth Twitty unwillingly sacrificed anything and nor would I if I were in her situation.
Secondly where did I say I want her to profit? I said I don't care if she does. If anyone is going to from this tragic story I hope its the family of the victim and not some stranger that wrote their own version of what happened. There's a pretty big difference between that and actually wanting someone to profit off of a tragedy. For all we know the profits will go to fund her foundation. She doesn't have a website up and running but she does go on speaking engagements.
I'm also sorry you don't see how hearing the true story coming from a grieving mother could maybe save a life, or at least make a teen girl think twice about her choices, and be more aware of her surroundings when she's alone. Its not always about education sometimes it just about being able to put yourself in someone's shoes who also thought something like that could never happen to them.

Come back to this thread when you are a parent and see if you think it's so funny. When you are a parent and you love a child with all your heart and soul and have that taken from you....there is very little to laugh about.

I'm not sure how I feel about it. I hears part of the commercial, Dh saw it and made a rude comment. I know there is a man with a cadaver dog down in Aruba right now conducting a search. There were alot of non-profit organizations that helped in the search, possibly that is where the money is going. I think her mom is a huge supporter of the Texas Equua Search, they did alot of searching in Aruba.

I am not a mother, but have custody of a teenage girl that is about to graduate High School and I want her to know the reality of what can happen. She has no clue about the "real" world and this would be the way to educate her. Her sister and I forbid her to make any plans like this, as she won't be allowed to go. Every time she talks about a senior/graduation trip, I think of Natalie and I won't have that happen to my family.

If the money from the movie can go to a good cause, like searching, finding & prosecuting her killer, then I have no problem with it. Like Bicker said, I would rather see the mother do the movie so its true to her daughters memory and not a hyped up made-for-tv version for ratings.
