We're considering this excursion...my son is 6 (he'll be 2 weeks away from 7 at the time of the cruise) so I'm a little concerned about the length of the excursion. He likes to help in the kitchen, so I think he'll like it. Just don't want him to get bored and want to leave...Ha!

If you've done this tour, let me know your thoughts, especially if you had kids involved.

We loved this!
I have two teens though, but there were younger children in our group who managed to stay engaged in the education AND in the fun. :)

Very little downtime in the tour/chocolate process. The first thing they have you do once you are in the chocolate room is to pour the cup of chocolate provided into the mold and add provided items to it. (Chopped almonds, coconut etc) . Then they take it away to finish the process. (It comes back to you ready to go) They also provide enough decoration items to make a cover a couple of strawberries, make a couple of truffles and little chocolate pearls.
At the very end, you take the chocolate back to the ship with you in a very nice Greycliffe box. You must eat all of it before debarkation day. Tough I know. :) lol
My kids were 13 and 14 at the time and they want to go back and do another one.

Dark chocolate. :) I am normally not a fan...but this was exceptional.

i did this excursion a couple of years ago. there were a few kids who seemed to be in the 6-7 year range who were having a blast. the "tour" part of the excursion is pretty short, as the factory is tiny. most of the time is making your own chocolate, which the kids really enjoyed.

as for dark vs milk, it really depends on when you're there. on my tour the factory was trying a new caramel milk chocolate and they asked if we wanted to use that. one guy said he'd rather have dark so they gave him some, but the rest of us used the caramel chocolate. usually dark chocolate is my favorite, but the caramel milk chocolate was fantastic. in any case, it seems like if you ask, they may be willing to give you milk vs dark vs maybe something special if they have it.

I have not done the tour with children of that age of my own. However, I have seen others kids and everyone seem to be having a great time. The tour is very interactive and a lot of fun. I think a kid who likes to help out in the kitchen would enjoy it very much.

I did the chocolate tour last february and found it to be very kid-friendly. Our tour guide, Coco, really made it fun and kept the children very involved in the tour. She would ask them for help and ask them questions.

Thanks so much for the positive replies! I asked my son if he would like to do this (after I consulted everyone here to see if it would even be worth the cost) and he is very excited to do it!!

So now a couple questions...how long is the tour/chocolate making experience? Is this one I have to book through Disney or can I book directly with Graycliff (always looking for the cheaper option!)?

We did it with my niece (then 9) through DCL because of the transportation. I believe it's available for booking on your own, but you might check the Graycliff website. It was a lot of fun and we made a BUNCH of chocolate!

We just did this tour two weeks ago (our daughter-1 year old stayed on the ship). There were lots of groups with kiddos--ranging from 6-teens, and they all enjoyed it. We enjoyed it too! The tour was very short, and making our own chocolate was fun, and yummy!

I'm not sure the individually booked excursion is the same. I'm almost sure that it wouldn't include transportation.

Coco is awesome. Is she the only tour guide? :)

Bring extra money to buy their chocolates too. The ones they make are VERY good.

You would have to contact gray cliff to determine pricing, I would say its a better choice to do through disney for the added security

I think Coco IS the only guide! She is exceptional and we really enjoyed our tour too.

We had our online check-in day today, so I went ahead and booked it this morning. I've emailed the Graycliff to see if it's any cheaper to book directly. I'll report back when I know something.

Is this excursion available all year round? We go to Nassau next week and do not have it listed as an option nor is it sold out....

I didn't even realize this was an official excursion. We were just going to show up at the door and see if we could do the tour. :P I'm usually a big researcher. I guess I should look into this more!

It's super spendy through DCL. We won't do it if we can't book directly for cheaper. We don't need transportation. We were planning on walking around on our own first.

I did the tour last Dec through DCL. It was a fun little something for me to do while DH golfed. There were several children in the group, they seemed to enjoy it. I will be the dissenting opinion though about the chocolate...I like dark chocolate and was unimpressed.
