Name or picture of a Flower?? What is it?? PICTURES!!

Ok..hopefully the floral experts can help me here.
When I lived in Long Beach Ca as a little girl, in our alleyway, growing on a fence were some flowers that I loved!! Black bees were totally attracted to them. They had BIG colorful petals (maybe a purple?) and had little black upside down L's on the inside of it, but big enough to stick out. They had a Hawaaiian feel if that helps.
I know this description is awful, but I was young, and I have never seen flowers like them since... My grandma used to cut them for me.

Any ideas?

hmm...from what I remember, it was like vines across a fence.. there were some leaves.. but there were several of them... definitely not a stalk like flower straight up from the ground.

no..I just googled those pictures.. thats not it. The inside was a light color I believe but the thing that sticks out in my head were the black 'upside down L's"' that were on the inside of the flower. I say 'inside', but it was very much exposed and the flower was an open style flower.

There are hundreds of varities of them.

Not any type of orchid? I don't know that they attract bees anyway. Do you think this is something out of the ordinary, are you familiar with a lot of usual flowers so we can eliminate them?

The flowers I remember were MUCH bigger.. and like I said.. like a Hawaaiaan type?

I hope I'm not way off in remembering the size and such. THey had white in them too I think.

I'm not totally familiar with flowers...
I just know that I haven't seen any since southern california...
and it's nothing regular like tulips, roses, marigolds or things like that.. LOL

There are many different types of orchids, from very tiny to large, lots of flowers on one stalk to one or two and a myriad of colors & color combos. Go to an orchid website, maybe you'll spot one there.

Can't find anything else at the moment.

it's along this style...very similar in fact...but it had alot of white, and black things in the middle that stuck out.
