Name 1 thing you think will be better in America if Kerry is elected.

I don't know. I'm still waiting to hear it...do I still get the additonal child tax credit? That's our AP money.

Upwards of 8 more years of no Hillary? With GWB we could only guarantee 4 years!

Good morning, this is John Edwards.

On Tuesday morning, I received a phone call from John Kerry. He asked me to be his running mate on the Democratic ticket. Nothing makes me prouder than to stand with John Kerry.

After I said yes, I asked my 6 year-old Emma Claire and my 4 year-old Jack to tell their mom. My daughter got on the phone and said, "Mommy Senator Kerry picked daddy." And then Jack got on the phone and said something that he thought was more important, "Mommy, I can swim with my head above water."

As a father, I know that John Kerry will make this country stronger and more secure for my children and for your children. And he will build an America that's stronger at home and respected in the world.
I am speaking to you today for one simple reason: I love my country. I grew up in a small town in North Carolina, and America has given me opportunities that I never thought I'd have. I believe that every American deserves the same chance that I had no matter where they live, who their family is or what the color of their skin.

I know John Kerry well. I've spent six years working with him in the Senate, and we spent a lot of time on the campaign trail together. And I'll tell you one thing: he has what it takes inside to be president of the United States -- backbone, strength, courage, heart. He has spent his life fighting for the good of others and for the good of America.

John Kerry understands that most middle-class families are struggling every day just to make ends meet. You can't save any money because it takes every dime you make to just to pay your bills. And if something goes wrong, a serious illness, or a layoff, you go right off the cliff. And to make things even worse, millions of Americans have lost their life's savings and pensions because of corporate crooks like Ken Lay.

It took three long years to see Ken Lay handcuffed and indicted for what he did. And in November, middle-class families will be able to rest assured that John Kerry will look out for their interests, restore corporate responsibility, and put our economy back in line with our values.

John Kerry will fight for jobs and trade agreements that work for American workers. He'll cut taxes for middle-class working families. And John Kerry will always stand by our men and women who wear the uniform. For him, it's personal. He will keep us safe and build a strong military, and lead strong alliances, so that young Americans are never put in harm's way because we needlessly decided to go it alone.

John Kerry volunteered for Vietnam -- not once, but three times -- and he volunteered for the most dangerous duty and risked his life for his country. And no one is more prepared to win the war on terror than John. As president, he will lead this world, not bully it.
I believe you can judge a man's values based on what he's done with his life -- not based on how he uses the word values in a political slogan or a political speech. If you want to know about John Kerry's values, ask the men who served with him in Vietnam. He put his life on the line for them every day -- seven days a week, 24 hours a day. They trusted him. They believed in him. They trust in him and believe in him today.

These are the kind of values we need in a president -- somebody who has strength, courage and determination and will never leave any American behind.

John Kerry returned from Vietnam and he never stopped serving this country. He served as a prosecutor protecting families from crime. He's been a leader in the United States Senate.

The truth is: John Kerry has spent his life fighting for the values that you and I believe in: hard work, faith, family, responsibility, opportunity for everyone. And you can take one thing to the bank: John Kerry will always tell the American people the truth.

Between now and November, the American people are going to reject the tired, old, hateful negative politics of the past and they're going to embrace the politics of hope, the politics of what's possible, because this is America, where everything is possible.

And that's what John Kerry is for this country. He's hope. Hope for you. Hope for me. Hope for our children. Hope for the future of America. With John Kerry as our president, America's tomorrow will once again be better than today.

Thank you for listening.

They could have died, if he was blackmailed into selling any number of secrets.

"Actually, terrorism started well before President Clinton. Bin Laden was spurred to action by Bush #1 and the Gulf War. Besides that, you missed the point, which is that Bush #2 has done untold damage to our relationships with other countries, not that he caused terrorists to start making plans. "

There was terrorism before Bin Laden and will be after, and the only countries that voice ill will with Bush are The Arabic nations where things were strained with Clinton as he was a friend to Isreal, and anyone who is a friend to Isreal is not to the other Arab nations, and France, to which, I must say, who cares? They fell in 6 weeks in WWII and we saved their rear ends. They should be thankful to us that they don't speak German.

"You want to provide a link that shows Edwards or Kerry is in favor of banning a woman's right to choose? You can't."

Well, you are only half right. Edwards is opposed to Partial Birth Abortions- which is in fact denying a woman her right to choose. Here is that link:

All I could find on Kerry is the usual flip flop:

"Want to provide a link where Kerry says he wants to increase taxes on the middle class? You can't."

Well, not during an election year, but I guess his voting record should speak for him:

John Kerry voted against an amendment to the FY 2004 Budget Resolution that would extend $1,000 Child Tax Credit until 2013.

John Kerry sponsored and voted for a motion to kill Marriage Penalty Relief for couples earning less than $50,000 per year.

The marriage penalty relief would have saved taxpayers $46 billion over 10 years. The amendment also would have allowed self-employed individuals to deduct health insurance costs on their income taxes. (S. 1415, CQ Vote #154: Rejected 48-50: R 5-49; D 43-1, 6/10/98, Kerry Voted Yea)

Kerry voted three times against repealing the 1993 Clinton tax increase on Social Security benefits.

Kerry voted against the 2001 and 2003 Tax Cuts.

Kerry voted against eliminating Clinton-instituted 4.3-cent tax on transportation fuels.

In 1995, Kerry voted for a resolution that said middle class tax cuts were not wise. The sense of the Senate amendment, killed on a motion by Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT), said, "reducing the deficit should be one of the nation's highest priorities, and that a middle-class tax cut would undermine and be inconsistent with the goal of achieving a balanced budget." (H.J. Res. 1, CQ Vote #67: Motion Agreed To 66-32: R 49-3; D 17-29, 2/14/95, Kerry Voted Nay)

They could have died, if he was blackmailed into selling any number of secrets.

and IF pigs had wings they could fly....do you seriously want to get into the IF game?

How about if Bush had not rushed to war, despite the pleadings to wait....well....let me count the benifits of that one.....I'l get back in a week or so

Name 1 thing you think will be better in America if Kerry is elected.

Political cartoons.

I just found out how much WalMart managers make... and it's more than I make as one of those questionably skilled government employees.

Haven't decided who to vote for yet... I am not impressed by the fact that Edwards has little children, so I'm waiting to hear more from him... I also believe Kerry won't fight Congress tooth and nail over giving us raises, the way Bush does.

Sure..but I believe, as many do, that my reproductive rights should also extend to not having a baby if I so choose. (And yes, I do realize what causes women to have children. And that it's, for the most part, preventable. And that there are ways to avoid the issue completely. So you don't need to tell me.)

So a woman that doesn't want to be a mother has excercised her choice while a man that doesn't want to be a dad is a deadbeat father.

I'm pretty sure that if men don't want to father a child they have plenty of opportunity to exercise that choice.

I can tell from this thread that I really dont want to have anymore to do with anymore political threads because they are just a bunch of junk. People are set on their beliefs and these threads really are not going to change anyone's mind. So I am just wasting my time answering to them.

I'm suspicious! Kerry actually did his job and voted? Who knew?

Great argument...They didn't die, but they could have!

The fact is, they HAVE died due to lies and misrepresentations by this President.

There was terrorism before Bin Laden and will be after,

Well then apparently you were wrong because you said the terrorist attacks were Clinton's fault.

Well, you are only half right. Edwards is opposed to Partial Birth Abortions- which is in fact denying a woman her right to choose.

And you're only all wrong. First, the question at hand is in regards to Kerry, not Edwards. However, Edwards voted against the ban on pba's that Bush promoted. He insists on preserving the right to pba if the mother's life is in danger. Being against PBA is not, in my opinion being against a woman's right to choose.

As for Kerry, he has always been clear and your link has nothing to do with his views on a woman's right to choose. To quote Kerry.....
"I want to make myself clear," said a Kerry statement issued by his campaign. "I believe that a woman's right to choose is a constitutional right.

As to the rest of your post....smoke and mirrors....

I'm pretty sure that if men don't want to father a child they have plenty of opportunity to exercise that choice.

abortion, however, is not one of them.

Of course not. Abortion isn't dealing with a man's body.

Men (and women) have the choice up-front. After conception, I would hope that discussion occurs between the man and woman on abortion. However, ultimately, it is a woman's decision.
