as long as they dont laugh when I walk through I'm OK with it.
This thread is useless without pictures...
Yeah. Uh huh. You DO realize that you have a greater chance of getting hit by lighting or winning the lottery than you do of getting on a plane with a bomb, right? Not to mention that you're far more likely to be killed driving on the highway than in an airplane that crashes, let alone an airplane that has a 'terrorist' aboard.I'd rather be alive than dead and have them mention my "rights" in my obit. Terrorists don't give a crap about your rights. And your rights won't help you if one of them gets on a plane with a bomb.
I posted pictures upthread.
So by all means give up your civil rights (that you use on a daily basis and are your children's birthright). As for me, I'd rather have my civil rights that I use every day than throw them away because of the .000000000000143829% chance that one day a plane I might be on has someone aboard who succeeds in blowing it, and me, up.
Everyone loves to say that our soldiers are dying for our right to freedom, but that freedom seems less valuable to people who want to trade it in for a nebulous perception of safety. And all because the TV is scaring them.
And when it comes to dying for your own freedom, no one wants to actually take that risk themselves but they'll thank every soldier they meet. How hypocritical. And shameful.![]()
Yep, I am hypocritical because I wouldn't want to serve. And I'm grateful to every service member and their families for the HUGE sacrifices they make every day for my freedom. I'm just curious though -- have you ever personally served, because unless you have, you're in the same boat I am. And if you have, thank you from the bottom of my heart because I'm glad I don't have to.I posted pictures upthread.

I also understand that my government (both local and federal) has taken steps to make my chances of getting struck by lightening or being in a car accident that much less. We have weather warnings, lightening rods, speed limits, seatbelts and DUI laws to assure that, while not completely without risk, things like this are less likely than without them.

You also haven't mentioned the people on the ground who might be affected by a terrorist attack with a plane. And as is the way in this country, I have a choice about the civil liberties I chose to "throw away". I can make the decision to get on a plane and give my consent to be scanned, and you can stay home with your civil liberties and not board a plane. There is NO WAY I should have to take a chance of getting blown out of the sky because YOU don't want to be scanned.

And all because the TV is scaring them. I respectfully disagree. The TV isn't what scares me. It's the fact that I was in NYC on 9/11. I was in the WTC after the first plane hit and before the second. I saw the devestation first hand. Thankfully, I didn't lose anyone in my family, but many people I knew lost family members. I also came back to work on 9/15, 2-1/2 blocks from the WTC. I breathed the air, I watched for months from our windows as they brought out body after body. I still work here, every day. It's a normal occurrence to have reservists with guns in the PATH station. Please don't dare condescend to me about being scared by the TV.

No one is a bigger advocate of civil rights than me!! I belong to the ACLU and am very informed of issues.
That being said - I believe the scan is a NON-ISSUE! No one is giving up anything.
I am more concerned about the Patriot Act which is an affront to personal privacy.
Not a member of the ACLU, but...No one is a bigger advocate of civil rights than me!!

Not sure how this even came into the thoughts of xray machines
My husband has served & as far as he is concerned & I'm concerned we say bring on the naked x-ray machines!!!!!!
For those who are offended, think it's against their freedom I say the door is always open........
I believe that El Al passengers get the same scrutiny where ever they fly out of; JFK, LAX to Israel, etc.
Amen. Twice!I personally believe that the single most effective tool we have against terrorism in the air is the absolute willingness of the other passengers to beat the hell out of any who looks at them cross-eyed.
The ACLU is calling for these scanners to be removed.

In spite of the many American sheeple cowering in their seats waiting for someone else to "take care of it" because they have children, because they have a cold, because they're handicapped, because because because (there's always a reason), there will always be those of us who still have the guts and fortitude to stand up and beat the crap out of those who appear to be about to cause serious damage to our vehicle.
Don't know about you, but I don't need an announcement.perhaps the airlines could add this to their preflight announcement about seat belts and emergency exits: "Should a passenger sitting near you attempt to detonate an explosive device, you may be called upon to render emergency assistance. Would you be willing to do so under those circumstances? If not we will assign you another seat" .
