"Naked" X-Ray Scans At The Airport.. Your Thoughts?

Hint: we're the ones who DIDN'T go through the naked body scanners because we felt it was against an American's right to privacy.

Wow! You really think you have everyone figured out, don't you? Believe it or not, there are those of us that aren't opposed to the *big scary brother is taking pictures of me naked scans* that wouldn't have any problem pummeling anyone that endangers an airplane, subway, bus, etc. full of people. Of course, you have already stated that we are the ones that watch the news all day so we probably can't pull ourselves away from the TV to get on a plane anyway.

Amen. Twice! :worship:

In spite of the many American sheeple cowering in their seats waiting for someone else to "take care of it" because they have children, because they have a cold, because they're handicapped, because because because (there's always a reason), there will always be those of us who still have the guts and fortitude to stand up and beat the crap out of those who appear to be about to cause serious damage to our vehicle.

This is about the most amusing thing I've read on the DIS in a long time. Just because I would go through a scanner means I won't beat the crap out of a terrorist? :rotfl:

There is one thing the terrorists should know IMMEDIATELY. If you try to hijack an American plane, you had damn well better pray to whatever god you're worshipping, that he saves your sorry butt. Because Americans WILL NOT stand by while you attempt to kill them. They also better damn well pray that the air marshals get them before the passengers do.

I may not have ever served my country, but know this: you bring the fight to me and it's definitely GAME ON.

The x-ray doesn't bother me. If they need me to walk stark naked onto the plane, it wouldn't bother me if it meant that it would keep those on the plane safe. Sadly, I would probably be the only one on the plane since others would run off in horror at he sight of my naked body! :goodvibes

:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

By your logic because I chose to go through the scanner I am now waiting for some one else to "Take care of me" and have no guts or fortitude?

Yeah, ok. Keep saying that to yourself over and over.

LOL. I was just thinking here's some incentive to tone up a little.

I haven’t been able to get past the part where 300 people actually paid good money to go to Detroit.

Am I the only one who is terribly afraid about dying in a terrorist attack? Statistically it is still very rare. I'm more likely to die in a accident. The issue is that TSA needs to look like they're doing something, in order to calm people's fears. I just don't feel like it's going to solve the problem. Mark my words, if there is another major terrorist attack on mass transportation, it will be from someone infiltrating the industry as an employee. Far more effective, with a higher probable casualty rate.

I'm afraid, bring on the body scans. Flying isn't a right. If you don't want a body scan, then well don't fly. There is NO way to claim who is in the images, and you don't see any nakedness. Its not like a full body picture from playboy, you just see different levels are darkness around creases.

Ah heck, let's just cut to the chase. It's time for everyone to start flying naked and have their luggage shipped on another plane.

:lmao: Actually this discussion reminded me of a BlueFly commercial where basically that is what the lady does -- she is holding magazines stragetically and then has to put them in the bin to walk through the scanners & take off her high heeled shoes and causes a commotion. It basically ends with "When you have nothing to wear -- Bluefly".

Every time I saw it made me wonder if that would be a next step at some point.

To everyone who says "do everything" for airplanes, would you say the same for all trains, subways and busses? If you think everything is acceptable and desirable for plane travel, why not for all other modes of transportation? Or any other potential targets?

What exactly distinguishes a crease from a crevice? Just wondering so I know how much I need to work out before my next flight

AS long as I am not experiencing shrinkage at the time I'll be fine with it!

I'd have no problem with it for any form of public transportation. If I don't want it, I can always drive myself. If they want to put it at the front of every public building, so be it. It is a sad commentary on life, but it is what the world has become.

It will always be difficult to really secure us. I think every cargo container that comes in needs to be fully inspected but I don't think that is feasible with the present technology. Once it is I would like it done.

We will never be 100% secure in anything and even if we get 100% of one aspect of travel safe there will be others. Installing a scanner at the airports is much more feasible at the moment than inspecting every cargo container so we are doing that first.

An airport scanner is a far cry from 2 + 2 equaling 6.

The point is this is incredibly unrealistic. Surely nobody thinks we're going to be taking our shoes off every time we want to go to the public library or the grocery store. Setting aside civil liberties concerns, we have to make some tough choices about how we apply our limited resources, and at what point changing our lifestyles to create a marginal increased level of safety is inappropriate. Using your example, if adding searches for all public transportation options (not that this is at all feasible) discourages use of public transit and drives more people into their cars, is that a smart policy decision? We still gotta live our lives.

It's not just about the feasibility, it's also about (among other things) whether that use of resources is adding more to our safety than all of the other potential uses of those same resources. It's certainly feasible to increase our inspections of cargo containers. And the choices go beyond anti-terrorism measures. Perhaps we should be making highways safer, or doing more to keep dangerous products out of our toy stores and grocery stores. It just seems like there is such a focus on air travel at the expense of everything else.
