I just got back from the 6/9 Wonder and would like to share a little bit about our dining experiences. I am way too lazy to write a trip report so I am just posting a few tidbits about our trip
Our servers were just wonderful. I couldn't have even imagined a better trio of servers.
Our head waiter was Paul from Scotland. He was a rowdy fellow with a filthy mind but he always came over every evening to make sure we were all happy. Our table number was 69 and the first night he made sure - very loudly- that all of the other servers knew that the honeymooners were at table number 69
Also when we got our celebration cake the servers would say "kiss" in between lines in the song but Paul would yell "french kiss". He was something else
Our server was Cesar from Brazil. At first we were kinda worried because he seemed so serious but then we really warmed up to him. He was kinda like a gentle version of a server from the 50's Prime Time Cafe. He would always come by and inspect our plates to make sure we were eating enough. If we weren't he would ask us if we would like to have something different. We double dipped one night with Palo's and I finally had to confess because he kept wanting to get me a different entree since I wasn't eating enough for him. He acted like he was SO offended but then he came around and wanted me to tell him about it. He is really hard to explain in words. You would just have to meet Cesar to understand how wonderful he was. We both gave him hugs on the last night and again at the debarkation breakfast.
Our assistant server was Nikola from Serbia. He was so adorable and had the greatest smile. I actually told him how cute he was on the last night of the cruise and he got all embarrassed and gave me a big hug. He was absolutely precious and did a good job too.
Needless to say all of our servers got more than the recommended tip
Now for the food -
Tritons was wonderful. I had the camembert fritters with red current jelly and marinara sauce, garlic roasted beef tenderloin served with mashed potatoes and crème brulee. My husband had the shrimp medley, sirlion, and cherries jubilee. We both loved everything and felt that Tritons was the best of the regular rotation restaurants.
Animators Palate was very good but was not on par with Tritons. I had the duck and goat cheese flatbread, the veal chop and strawberry shortcake. My husband had the caesar salad, cheese canneloni and the cheesecake. The flatbread, caesar salad and cheesecake were all wonderful. Everything else was just okay.
Parrot Cay - We didn't really like Parrot Cay at all. I had the crab and shrimp salad, Cuban rib-eye and the roasted pineapple with caramel sauce. My husband had the coconut prawns and onion rings, prime rib and vanilla ice cream. The only thing that was really good was the roasted pineapple and the prime rib. The coconut shrimp and onion rings were super greasy and not very good at all. The food wasn't horrible or anything it is just that we were a bit spoiled after Tritons and Palo's.
Master Chef Series - I had the scallops, roasted turkey - to which Cesar responded - gobble gobble Happy Thanksgiving
- and the apple strudel. My husband had the spring roll, a sirloin and he actually skipped dessert and just had a glass of wine. The scallops were wonderful but everything else was just so-so. I thought that the Master Chef Series would be great but I was disappointed.
Palo's - Palo's was magnificent. We had the 6:00 seating so we could double dip and not miss our 8:30 seating at Animators Palate. I had the tomato and mozzarella, sea bass on seafood risotto - the catch of the day- and panna cotta for dessert. My husband had the calamari - which I kept begging for more bites of
,fillet mignon, and the chocolate souffle. Everything was perfect. The calamari was so tender and was the best that we had ever eaten. I loved the sea bass - it was prepared perfectly and was in a delicious red pepper sauce. Palo's was a true treat
Our server was also great but his name escapes me at the moment. They also made a special decorated plate for us that said Happy Honeymoon. I think that everyone should try Palo - I would recommend that you skip Parrot Cay or the Master Chef Series and go and be pampered at Palo's. Or you could double dip like us and not miss anything
I hope that these reviews will be helpful to someone planning an upcoming Disney cruise
