My Wish for PSU....

Okay. Some will make be watching the Attorney General's office like hawks making sure the kids get justice. Some will email their congressmen or local leaders to be sure everyone is held accountable. Some will be watching the university to make sure transparency will be key in every department from here on out. Some will volunteer to work with sexual assault victims. Some will raise awareness about signs and results of sexual assaults. And some will cheer at a football game.

Ya know if I had time.. I'd love to do something.. dh works and is going to school full time at ... PSU! I'm alone from I get up until 9:30pm M,T,W, Thursdays our dd11 has speech and we dont see each other until 7:30 at night, Friday he's gone again until 10pm.. S,S he's gone until 7:30p... We share one van right now (he blew up 2 engines last year, one in a car, one in a van with in a month of each other:headache:) we aren't rich, haven't been on vacation since 2007, so there isnt much of anything I as a PSU fan ... I'm not a dr, a licenced professional, I dont how to handle this kind of stuff.. :confused3 There is lots of awareness at UP now... but again they wont report on anything good up there.. all they want to do is keep on with the bad stuff us PSUers are doing  Hello 10k people showed up last night at the vigil for the boys last night... I'm 3+hrs away in Schuylkill Co.. not exactly a small ride over or I would have been there as well.

But this isn't and shouldn't be normal.

according to who? (or is it whom?):confused3 how do you know what any of those people at the stadium does or doesn't do? how do you know they dont help people who've been abused? how do you know any of them weren't the boys who were abused.. you keep jumping to all sorts of conclusions about us who were cheering on the team... how do you know what happens off that field? How do you know what the 100k people who were there today do when they aren't at the game? How do you know what everyone who watched the game does or doesn't do? Enjoy the rest of your night.. I have other stuff to do... Dh will be home soon and I'll see him for 1.5 hrs before he's in bed

Good night. I do hope you realize you're not the only super busy mom who finds the time to post on the Dis.

What exactly do you want the football players to do? Or the parents or the teachers or alumni? What exactly would make YOU feel better?

The football players can go about doing what they have to do. As can the students. Do you honestly believe that Paterno and McQueary would be gone right now if it weren't for the public outrage?

At least the vigil tells me that some students who were for the firings but afraid to let people know (understandably) are standing up for what they believe it. Or that the students who were faithful to Joe are starting to get it.

ETA: I guess I want them to not make their school the center, but the victims.

I maintain that both the school and the victims can be the center. The victims of the abuse are of the most importance of course but I see those who go to the school as victims too in a way. Remember...they did nothing wrong!

It seems a lot of PSU supporters want it both ways.

1. On one hand you say Sandusky acted alone and it solely responsible.

2. On the other, I have read many posts/articles about how JoePa was in complete control and was the ultimate power at the university.

If number 2 was true, then how can you argue point number 1? Sandusky may have committed the actual abuse but the institutionalized acceptance, empowerment and protection PSU gave this man is appalling and criminal.

If my mantra were WE ARE PENN STATE, I would be devastated. But I would also want a full accounting and justice for those kids.

I am sorry for the alumni and supporters but this, unfortunately, is your cross to bear. PSU will pay for this for years in civil lawsuits, reduced enrollment and athletic recruiting. Seems like a small price to pay for the lives ruined.

how can you make it all about the victims.. maybe if it happened off campus but really its centered in the school with school officials... its going to be impossible to keep both separate...

Then they have no reason to feel guilty and complain about the media treatment. If they feel victimized, then they narcissistically or naively did it to themselves.

The kids were victimized at the school, by school personnel, enabled by other personnel. The school IS NOT the victim.

They aren't all doing that. Sure some do but not all of them.

I see that some want anyone that ever had anything to do with PSU now or before to pay for this. That is what I have trouble with. I've even seen some comments about Pennsylvania in general. Please...some people need to get a grip.

I havent' seen any of this….and I'd let it go in one ear and out the other if someone said something so dumb. People want the enablers at Penn State handled (many have been). Unfortunately, Penn State fans didn't want the chief enabler to be held responsible…that's where others started getting irritated.

I believe that that was just a relatively small group of students and that they were acting out of emotion. I don't think that you will likely see any more of that now that this has sunk in a bit.

I don't think so either.

I have a request for a clarification (and this is not meant to be disrespectful as I am curious...)

When did "We are ____" originate? Is this a newer mantra or a long standing tradition.

The reason I ask is because it reminds me of Marshall University and their tragedy and their Mantra to recover their tragically destroyed football program.

My stepsister went to PSU in the 80's and they chanted it back then....
