I think we all understand that this thread will only lead to arguments and anger, but I am so disgusted with this story, it feels good to add my two cents.
I'm a graduate of Florida State University. I think I understand what some of the PSU posters are talking about, re: school spirit, a feeling of unity, the sense that you are one big family, wanting to support your school. That being said, if this story came out of FSU, I would not spend one second trying to talk about what a great school it typically is. My only thought would be for the poor children involved and the despicable men responsible for the cover up. I would have to look at my university and say that our school has failed in a MAJOR way.
I have no ill feelings toward any PSU student or player, but it's confusing to me when PSU supporters don't see this backlash as understandable. With the public reacting so voraciously, perhaps this type of mass corruption can be prevented in the future. In my opinion, it is just and right that a large part of the population is angry with the institution.
Its hard for me to imagine that Bobby Bowden might ever be involved in a situation like this (I imagine Bobby would have delivered some good ole boy justice on the person responsible), but if it ever came out that he were, you would not see me holding up a sign at the next game saying This ones for Bobby!
Again, Im really not trying to condemn anyone who wants to voice their support for PSU. Im just trying to explain why, for me, it is so confusing to see this sort of cheerleading and celebration for the school right now.
