My Wish for PSU....

I think we all understand that this thread will only lead to arguments and anger, but I am so disgusted with this story, it feels good to add my two cents.

I'm a graduate of Florida State University. I think I understand what some of the PSU posters are talking about, re: school spirit, a feeling of unity, the sense that you are one big family, wanting to support your school. That being said, if this story came out of FSU, I would not spend one second trying to talk about what a great school it typically is. My only thought would be for the poor children involved and the despicable men responsible for the cover up. I would have to look at my university and say that our school has failed in a MAJOR way.

I have no ill feelings toward any PSU student or player, but it's confusing to me when PSU supporters don't see this backlash as understandable. With the public reacting so voraciously, perhaps this type of mass corruption can be prevented in the future. In my opinion, it is just and right that a large part of the population is angry with the institution.

It’s hard for me to imagine that Bobby Bowden might ever be involved in a situation like this (I imagine Bobby would have delivered some good ole boy justice on the person responsible), but if it ever came out that he were, you would not see me holding up a sign at the next game saying “This one’s for Bobby!”

Again, I’m really not trying to condemn anyone who wants to voice their support for PSU. I’m just trying to explain why, for me, it is so confusing to see this sort of cheerleading and celebration for the school right now.

Where are you getting this from? and like it or not one person hurt those boys.. others could have stopped it sooner but they weren't the ones in the locker room abusing them... Jerry was.. I do agree it should have been stopped sooner.. I do agree everyone should have done more.. it doesn't mean just because I'm still PSU proud I dont want any of those things.. get over yourself if you think you know anything about me

No, I don't want the place to close down. But you said one man was responsible. I was stating that, in my opinion, several men were responsible. Good on PSU for getting rid of them.

Exactly. They are gone, and if more names come to light in the days that follow who are still there, they will be gone, too. As such, lending support to those who are left and (saying this AGAIN), who had NOTHING to do with it, seems to be the right thing to do. (at least for me )

I don't think they want your pity. It makes ME proud to hear people say WE ARE Penn State. Yes, they are going through a huge scandal. Huge! But that the current AND former students are sticking together? I think that is great. And I didn't even graduate from there. But just as I didn't write off Catholics because of the scandal that hit their church, I am not going to write off the people of Penn State.

No one is writing off people at Penn State, they are just saying that those students, faculty and fans at Penn State need to write off the handful who kept this from going to the police...and as we saw, many didn't want to write off dear Joe.

There is no reason for people not involved in this crime to feel like they are being picked on. So stop feeling like a victim and insist on justice and healing for the true victims.

Agreed. I do not, in any way, support any person who stands beside or defends any person involved in this situation. My support is for those PSU folks who are disgusted by all of this but are being lumped into all of it due to being affiliated with PSU.

Even the announcers and news media are acting like he's God and football is more important then what happened.

Didn't you read my previous post? I think ALL colleges should be about EDUCATION, not sports.

And no, I don't support what the MSU football team does or doesn't do. I don't support the U of M football team. I don't like football. Period.


I would have a problem with a school, any school, that hid the illegal actions of someone at the school in order to maintain a reputation.

And right now, for the moment, if that's our priority- that's ok. It doesn't make anything "go away", it doesn't change our disgust for some people's inaction and one person's actions. Nobody is saying by focusing on the game that everything is back to "normal". "Normal" for Penn State has changed

It makes the point that RIGHT NOW, TODAY, what we can do is focus on a silly game and band together to cheer- that Penn State Spirit

WE can't change this last week, WE can't heal the boys, WE can't do anything but scream
