My Wish for PSU....

After that ridiculous riot, I'm not too worried about the 'innocent' not involved in this whole debacle. Seems like football tradition is more important there than other things, like children's wellbeing. Not impressed with Penn State at all, but then I never understood why the big business of sports is linked to educational institutions in the first place.

Penn State's pride has been very tarnished, IMO. Abuse, scandal, riots - hard to have much pride in that.

How about the 10k+ that were at the vigil last night:confused3

Marcy and Helene,
Of course neither you two or anyone you know are guilty of this, but you're making my point for me by making this more about Penn State than about those kids. Those kids need to heal, not you. You shouldn't need to heal anymore than you need to apologize for this crime.

I don't hate. I just feel sorry for people proudly associating themselves with an institution that enabled the rape of a child.

Wow, I don't even know what or how exactly to say it. People can be proud to be associated with Penn State and still be horrified by what a few people let happen. I refuse to let a few bad apples spoil it for the rest of this remarkable university. I did not attend PSU, but know many people who have. In no way, shape or form does this make me see them in a different light.

As it shouldn't. But I will see someone in a different light if they are more offended by a football coach being fired. BTW, I have two friends who went to Penn State. Both are disgusted that the coaches and administration did nothing to stop this man. That doesn't make them ashamed of themselves and Penn State.

So I guess that means you feel sorry for them, correct?

Eh I'd take it personal if my name was sandusky.....

As a former PSU student and married to a current one all I can say is we will heal after all we are Penn State

hmmm, I wonder if those little boys will heal?? It's not about you, not even one little bit.

I don't hate Penn St. I hate the men that allowed this to happen to God only knows how many innocent kids. I think that the kids that rioted are idiots with misplaced priorities but I don't hate them. I hate that people can't undertsand that this is not about football. Football is a game. Children's lives will ALWAYS be more important than a GAME. So, yeah, I guess I'm a hater. I'm a hater of people who are placing a game over children.

Have you ever been to University Park? It is a small city. Students were angry. Things got way out of hand. For goodness sakes, look at what ADULTS did to Vancouver during the Stanley Cup!! Yeah, stuff happens like this. But not EVERY student, faculty member, and alumni rioted on campus. It is WRONG to make a blanket statement like that. Nobody said that football was bigger than the well-being of children. Penn State is more than football.

Okay, now we're good!!! I agree, anyone more offended by the firing of the coach than of the abuse those young boys took needs knocked into next week....or year for that matter!

On the other thread its been suggested psu close its doors so don't be shocked if they answer yes

I've managed to avoid reading too much of the other threads because I know it would tick me off. I don't know why I even started reading this one, because it has about done it to me here.

THANK YOU!!

I am a graduate of PSU as well as a resident (for 10 years) of State College. I want to say thank you to everyone who is willing to see the good in this community and this University. And thank you for rooting for us.

We are tailgating today to celebrate the outgoing senior class and their accomplishments. I am proud of the current students (my siblings included), past students and surrounding community that showed up today to speak loudly to the nation that the actions of a few do not represent all.

WE ARE....

See, THIS is what bothers me. Nobody condones what happened, but Penn State has educated hundreds of thousands of good, honest, hardworking and accomplished people. Graduates are proud of their alma mater, and why shouldn't they be? I'm sure that PSU is not the first, and will not be the last, university to have a terrible scandal like this.

Word.

I truly think this fanaticism is proof that education and sports need to be kept separate. Too much attention is placed on a football team; the science department who may be working on a cure for some horrible illness goes completely ignored.

These college students will be forever painted by the twisted brush of child abuse just because the college cared more about a sport than the education of young adults. This is so wrong on many levels.

:sad2:

There were 10 times as many students at the candlelight vigil for child abuse last night than at the riots... that wont be brought up by anyone but the PSU people... I'm sure it wasn't on the news because they only want to show the bad side of PSU right now.. we aren't Sandusky.. we did not hurt them. We'd like to help them heal, we also need to heal from people and statements like others have said here.. you associate us at PSU with child abusers.. I've never abused a child in my life.. most of us at PSU haven't but as a whole you think we are all awful people because some of us most of us are still Penn St proud.. You'll never change my feelings.. Just like I'll never change yours... :sad2:

Riot?? That's hilarious to anyone that knows anything about State College.
There are 45,000 students at University Park campus
From their own websites-
University Police- 46 Full time Armed Officers
State College Police Department- 65 Full time sworn Officers
There are some other small departments in the area and the state police will come in and help but that takes time
Basically it's 45,000 vs. 111 assuming EVERY officer was available
If the students wanted to riot there would be nothing left. It was a few students there and a couple got out of control. Another example of the ridiculous media spin that seems to be running this incident. I wonder if the media would be half as hysterical if a delivery truck was turned over versus a news van

:thumbsup2

Yes! Thank you!

Again, thank you to those realizing that the actions of a few do not respresent all.

If you don't mind, I think I'm going to borrow your "keep calm and fight on" image for my signature as well. :goodvibes

Are you kidding me? It's not about YOU, it's about the children. Good grief, what a load of crap.

Oh yeah... that's just kids being kids. Flip over a news van? No biggie.

What's really sad is that they weren't flipping over a news van out of disgust for the actions of their coaches but because a coach was fired.

:sad2:

:sad2:

I never said that, the kids responsible for that should be prosecuted. But to hysterically call it a "riot" is just silly, by that definition rope drop at Magic Kingdom is a riot, I have seen CM's run over!

seriously.. what a load of crap if you think everyone at Penn St is proud of what happened there because we are proud of the school.. How about people who live in crime ridden cities like NYC, Detroit but are still proud to live there... are they also associating them self with crime and murderers? Why is it that we still can't be proud and need to move on from this.. I didn't say forget about it.. I said move on.. there is more to PSU than Jerry Sandusky... much more.. he was one person who did awful things to those poor boys.. I hope they have healed as they need it much much more than we do but get over yourself if you dont think all of us dont feel awful about it and move on...
