My Wish for PSU....

I've never been a Penn State fan and never will be, but for this one day and for all the ones in Blue and White at Penn State now or long ago graduated, who had NOTHING to do with the disgusting and vile acts of a few, I will cheer on the Nittany Lions to victory against Nebraska and hope for healing for all.

GO LIONS!
I will be rooting for Nebraska for my own selfish Wisconsin Badger fan reasons . They can win next week against the Buckeyes :woohoo:.

THANK YOU!!

I am a graduate of PSU as well as a resident (for 10 years) of State College. I want to say thank you to everyone who is willing to see the good in this community and this University. And thank you for rooting for us.

We are tailgating today to celebrate the outgoing senior class and their accomplishments. I am proud of the current students (my siblings included), past students and surrounding community that showed up today to speak loudly to the nation that the actions of a few do not represent all.

WE ARE....

You are more than welcome!!!

On one of the other PSU threads, someone mentioned that if they were hiring and two people applied that had the same qualifications, one a PSU grad and the other not, they would not hire the PSU grad due to what happened. I don't remember the poster's exact words, but this is basically what was stated. Maybe something about customer's finding out the worker was PSU and losing business. Again, I don't remember the exact wording. Now the poster of this has the right to his own hiring practices and opinions. BUT, if I wanted to become a customer of said business and found this out, I would take my business elsewhere. I would not want to be associated or do business with someone that held what happened at PSU, as horrendous as it truly is, against someone that went to college there. That is not fair to all the good people that attended or will attend this university.

About as rediculous as starting a boycott on Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream. I mean, that is where they received their ice cream education. Just doesn't make sense holding innocent people's place of education as a reason not to hire them. Not in this instance.

Wow, I don't even know what or how exactly to say it. People can be proud to be associated with Penn State and still be horrified by what a few people let happen. I refuse to let a few bad apples spoil it for the rest of this remarkable university. I did not attend PSU, but know many people who have. In no way, shape or form does this make me see them in a different light.

This is what I was trying to say with the post. I am not associated with PSU in any way, shape, or form. I am a Georgia girl, through and through. I do believe that in times of adversity and tragedy, activities like football (a silly game or not is up to everyone to decide for themselves) can be a unifier. Yes, the events are horrific; those guilty deserve the ultimate punishment; the victims must be kept in our thoughts; justice must be served, but the STUDENTS, GRADUATES, and FACULTY/STAFF of Penn State who have (once again stressing this point) NOTHING TO DO WITH THESE HORRIFIC CRIMES, need a way to heal. If a "silly" football game can aid in that healing, then so be it. As for those moron students that "rioted," again, they do not represent the good that is at PSU. Unfortunately, the media and the general public tend to focus on all the negative and not the positive shown by PSU (last night's vigil).

Geesh....who would have thought this UGA DAWG would have EVER defended a PSU Lion!

PSU Creamery... Yum :lovestruc I missed them at the bloom fair this year :(

seriously.. what a load of crap if you think everyone at Penn St is proud of what happened there because we are proud of the school.. How about people who live in crime ridden cities like NYC, Detroit but are still proud to live there... are they also associating them self with crime and murderers? Why is it that we still can't be proud and need to move on from this.. I didn't say forget about it.. I said move on.. there is more to PSU than Jerry Sandusky... much more.. he was one person who did awful things to those poor boys.. I hope they have healed as they need it much much more than we do but get over yourself if you dont think all of us dont feel awful about it and move on...

I'm calling crap that you need to heal from the baddies who are pissed(rightly so) at this scandal and want justice. It should not be in the same sentence or paragraph with the children or family members. Ridiculous. I also keep seeing a theme that you keep saying one person. I call BS on that too.

Just so you know, I have lived in the Lehigh Valley all my life except when I attended PSU.

Well, at least PSU grads know how to spell dog. :lmao:

Who says I dont want justice? Where are you getting this from? :confused3 and like it or not one person hurt those boys.. others could have stopped it sooner but they weren't the ones in the locker room abusing them... Jerry was.. I do agree it should have been stopped sooner.. I do agree everyone should have done more.. it doesn't mean just because I'm still PSU proud I dont want any of those things.. get over yourself if you think you know anything about me

If everyone feels the need to support a sports team, how about the Penn State Basketball team, soccer team, cross country team, Lacrosse team, etc...

Anything BUT the football team...where I believe this tragedy was started.

Have the rumblings about supplying young boys for the supporters of the team been broken in the news yet? I had read that there were several stories about this brewing out there. I wasn't sure if these were true or not, but still enough to sicken me.

Get over myself. That's rich coming from you. You know the one who needs to heal because people are talking badly about Penn State. :rotfl2::rotfl2:

I think the kids on the football team as well as the other teams, students and faculty of Penn State deserve supporting...

I heard those rumors , I was not sure if the rumor was about supporters of the team of for sanduskys' charity... I pray those are only rumors..

The football team didn't do it! A former coach of the football team did!! A COACH NOT PLAYER!!! What aren't you getting about that?!?! Why shouldn't we still cheer for them??!?! and yes a lawyer representing some of the boys said that they didn't want Joe to go out like he did... And I'm sorry I hate basketball... I'd rather poke my eyes out than watch any basketball game that includes a PSU game... :rolleyes1

How about Michael Vick... does that mean every Eagles/Falcons fan should be associated with a animal abuse? Should no one cheer for them? Where did he go to school.. let me go wiki it.... Virginia tech... does that mean no one should cheer for that college football team? I can get you lots and lots of examples of what one bad man did on a team if you'd like...

ETA when I saw "we" heal I dont mean me.. I mean PSU as a whole.. We are... get it? I dont think I should be thought of as an associate of a child abused because I'm a PSU and JoePa fan

I do feel bad for the players on the football team there.

To support the team, however, would be tantamount to supporting the entire team, including the coaches, and the atrocities that were committed.

I would hope those players would consider switching to a different college ASAP.

I agree the students and alumini and those staff not involved should not be the center of the storm. But they are, collateral damage as it were. Oddly enough, JoPa was all about Penn State, his school, his football team, his student body and football team he called 'family'. Guess what, he didn't do anything to save the reputation of the University he supposedly loved. He didn't do one thing to save to the taint now surrounding Penn State. Everyone should be p'od for sure.

That is the part that is amazing to me. Sandusky did the crime. Yet, Paterno did not do a thing. If he felt the way about Penn State that all of his supporters did why did he allow such a stench surround his beloved PSU. Paterno proved he never cared about Penn State as a whole. He cared for himself and the football program. Anything that would shed a bad light on the program was taboo. Now, the entire University is suffering the consequences of a group of people who didn't care one minute about the students, the reputation of the school or anything else.

Its why I get so angry hearing about Paterno and his supporters. Do they really NOT realize the man did NOT return the adoration they portray?

The seniors can not switch .. this is their last home game.

The coaches named have been fired or relieved of their duty (McQueary) .... I would bet next year there will be all new people there... (there better be)

I am sorry i don't think students should have to transfer schools and lose credits because their coaches were scum...

Your from Michigan... looky what I found about some Michigan State players... does that mean everyone on the team will elude and evade police? I mean if your a Michigan State fan that means you agree with what they did right? Dont forget about the 3rd degree assult and underage drinking. If you support the team, you support what they did? :confused3

I don't hate. I just feel sorry for people proudly associating themselves with an institution that enabled the rape of a child.

I don't think they want your pity. It makes ME proud to hear people say WE ARE Penn State. Yes, they are going through a huge scandal. Huge! But that the current AND former students are sticking together? I think that is great. And I didn't even graduate from there. But just as I didn't write off Catholics because of the scandal that hit their church, I am not going to write off the people of Penn State.

Not going to happen... some might leave... most will stay and want to stay

And those that do stay, I hope they stay because the love Penn State, not some misguided idea about Paterno.

Penn State as a whole needs to unify and come to terms that they let one man run the show and he didn't do such a good job off the football field. In the end, he pretended to be someone he wasn't. But, he is showing us now who he really is, lets believe him when he says in hindsight he should have done more. It speaks volumes of what the truth really is.
