My three year olds locked me out of the house!

I had the same happen to me when my DS10 was about 3 or 4. I have since learned to carry my key with me everytime I step out of the house. It is not as necessary now that he is 10 and his brother is 6, but you never know with kids!!:) Now I'm afraid they may want to lock me out thinking it is funny!!

Oh..well I need to add, there were NO keys for the slider. YUP, I had one of those "rocks" in my backyard that hid the front door key, but because I did not leave from the front door, the storm door was still locked (ugh) and at the time, (1987), they did make those outside keypads for the overhead garage doors...yup I was screwed and freaking....:scared:

If just one of us is at home, we ALWAYS take our keys to get the mail, etc. because DD3 will lock the door (both locks!).

She also will lock bedroom and bathroom doors, but the knobs in our house have universal keys, so we put the keys on the trim above the doors she likes to lock. :thumbsup2

I feel so bad for laughing at everyone :lmao: Really:rotfl2:

My cousins DD locked him out of the car once at a gas station. She just sat in the car laughing at her dad while he was beating away at the windows. :lmao:

He's very lucky someone didn't call child services on him since he left his DD in the car... I'm only HALF kidding on that....

This reminds me of a time when my daughter was about 3, she locked me outside on the front porch while I was waiting for my son's school bus to drop him at the end of the driveway.... Once she realized she locked the door, what did she do??? SHE RAN UPSTAIRS TO HER BEDROOM TO CRY!!! I'm so serious, she didn't let me in, she ran upstairs to cry!!!

When my DS got home (at age 5), he had to walk down to my MIL's to get the spare set of key's (since I can't walk & didn't bring my wheelchair outside).... it really wasn't funny at the time, but looking back on it, there's not a day I go out my front door without both a key and a cell phone!!!

This must be a right of passage for Children :lmao:

We have those keys above every locking door in our house, too.

When my son was small he locked me out one day too. We lived in a townhouse and shared our back steps with the neighbor. I opened my door and knocked on her door to borrow something. Mind you my door was about 2 feet away from her door. Then I heard the door slam. I had been washing the dishes and my DS pulled a chair up to the sink and I asked him to open the door with my face pressed up to the glass like a kid outside a candy store. He said "can't mama . . . I wash the dishes for you." He turned the water on in the sink and I just kept standing there like an idiot asking him to open the door while I watched the water fill up to the top of the sink and then overflow onto the floor. He finally opened the door and I sent him to the neighbor's house to play while I cleaned up the water. That boy was always getting into something but he is 14 now and really laid back and well behaved for a teen boy. There were times though when I wasn't sure he would make it to 14. His brother is only 19 months younger so I do think the "two heads are better than one" theory is true. Also I babysat for my neice who is only two months younger than him and I could tell you some stories about the things those two concocted. I don't know if I could have kept my sanity if I had twins! I promise some day you will find this wildly funny but until then here's a hug.

My CAT locked me out once! I had stepped outside to getthe mail and she was standing on the end table by the door looking out the window. She leaned over and put her paw on the doorknob and just happened to put her weight on the lock mechanism! She kept looking at me through the window like "Well?? Aren't you going to come back in and FEDD ME???" I had to call a neighbor to come let me in, but she didn't believe my story. DH didn't believe it either until she did it to him a few months later...:rotfl:

Hide a key somewhere you can find it....

I see I am far from alone in this. Sorry to hear about everyone else's bad experiences.

I'd probably be ready to laugh, if I hadn't been too busy cleaning red dry erase marker out of one of my chairs. Thank God for microsuede!

As soon as my husband gets home, I'm headed for Target. Nothing like retail therapy!

One night I stepped out to walk the dog and accidently locked myself out. No problem I thought! I'll just wake up my daughter (11) and she'll let me in. I beat on her bedroom window and screamed and yelled for an hour and she never woke up. The neighbors three houses down woke up and came to help and she still didn't wake up. I started beating on the wall right next to her bed, I beat so hard, I put my hand throw the stucco and she still didn't wake up. I was so pissed. I was so sure she couldn't possibly be asleep, I ran to her room screaming and turned on the light. She didn't have a clue what had happened.

I still can't get over how deep my daughter was sleeping.

Something similar happened to me when DS was only 4. I was putting away groceries when he went to take a nap on the couch. As I was going out the door to get another bag, the door swung shut and was locked. I banged on all of the windows in the living room for at least 30 minutes to try and wake up DS. He finally got up and opened the door. He looked at me and said, "Stop banging on the window!"

LOL!

You have now learned a lesson many of us have also learned the hard way: never, never leave your house for 3 seconds without the key.

However, carrying the key does not work with those metal hinged latch-locks used on hotel doors. Yeah, my kids thought locking that was VERY funny.

I also leave 2 sets of keys with neighbors when they pet-sit. One set to unlock the house. Set two to get back in the house if their DD locks set #1 in my house while I am out of town.

:lmao: :lmao: I just have to laugh at all these because I'm always thinking how after 2 girls then to get ds, wow what a difference, but thank GOD I only got 1 DS, can't imagine getting 2 of him.:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

they were probably not quite three and I was trying to get a college final exam paper ready to take to class. I was so busy trying to get the print out just right.

For those of you with children, you know the first rule in a home with kids is to be very afraid when you hear - NO NOISE AT ALL!

Well, in my haste to get my final term paper ready they...

dragged a kitchen chair to the sink, took the water sprayer on the sink - opened my cupboard doors and proceeded to fill all of the water glasses and wash the dishes:faint: - inside the cupboards. Then they decided to clean the ceiling and wash the floor. I can look back and laugh, but at the time ...:faint:

I made a copy and have it in the garage after being locked out by my 2yo. All 4 kids were in the house playing and had no idea that I was the one franticly knocking and ringing the doorbell. Well except for DD who was waving at me thinking this was the best thing she had ever done.:rotfl:
