We are planning a trip next spring but have been reviewing the restaurants and taking notes as to where to eat but I have a son who is a vegetarian (he also does not eat eggs, gelatin and not sure what else  ). Anyway if someone else knows of the best places he can dine (but not feel he has to dine alone), it would help. Also someone at work told me there is a Vegetarian's Guide to Disneyworld book out there - any suggestions?

Here's a link to a thread with good vegetarian dining suggestions:

If you go to the top of this page, you can do a search under "search this forum" and find several other similar threads. Just search on vegetarian.

You can find vegetarian options (including vegan, which it sounds like your son is) at almost every WDW restaurant, so don't worry!

The name of the book is Vegetarian Walt Disney World by Susan Shumaker and Than Saffel. It's pretty good, and it was updated last year, but I have found that the restaurant menus change so often, it's better to read these boards for the latest veggie dining options.

Happy planning!

Sorry, just running out the door, but do a search for 'bavaria' on the restaurant board and you will see lots of threads that we veggies contribute to - good luck, and if you need more help I can chime in later!

Thank you for your help - I am always confused as to what he can and cannot eat. He eats mostly cheese and peanut butter sandwiches or boca chicken burgers so he will be pleased to know he won't starve - haha!

He isn't much on salads or vegetables except mixed vegatables either. I will look up the book at the library but will follow your suggestion regarding the boards updates since menus change so often.

How old is your son? I remember our daughter when she went through her vegan stage. She was a strict vegetarian for 10 years -- but not now. She married a meat eater. Just ask when you go to the restaurants -- most are very willing to alter the meals to omit things your son won't eat. Kona Cafe at the Poly is a great place for vegetarians.

This is probally the book your friend is talking about:http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0967928001/thedreambeatli0c/102-8310446-6536951 It is fairly easy to go to any restaurant these days (even steak houses) and they usually have some sort of fish dish or filling salads. It may be a little more difficult because of the eggs, because many things have egg in them or does your son just not eat "eggs" like hard boiled, fried etc.. Too bad because that is a good souce of protien.

Take a big breath and relax. Having fed vegetarian friends and relatives for years, you just need to relax and make a shift.

It sounds like your son doesn't eat meat or eggs. But he'll eat dairy or cheese? I'd sit down and find out exactly what HE means by vegatarian:

Vegans are the strictest vegetarians. They consume no animal products (some include honey and don't wear leather). No eggs, no milk, no chicken, no fish.

Lacto-Ovo Vegetarians eat milk and eggs, but don't eat meat (including fish)

Pesco vegetarians will eat fish (and milk and eggs), but don't eat chicken/pork/beef.

Semi vegetarians may eat a small amount of meat, be willing to eat things with beef broth, may limit themselves to chicken.

And of course, each vegetarian defines for himself what he will and won't eat. I know many who don't like vegetables.

(geletin is usually an animal product, there are vegetarian geletins made.)

I'd point your son to the menus at www.allearsnet.com and have him decide which vegetarian options are appealing to him. All restaurants are going to have something to offer, although sometimes it will be a salad. There is often, however, going to be a single vegetarian entree on the menu. If he doesn't like it, he'll be stuck.

There are a ton of options at WDW for vegetarians, a few less for vegans. Places that do a good job at making meals on the fly are

- Spoodles
- Yacht Club Galley
- Yachtsman Steakhouse
- Concourse Steakhouse

Nine Dragons has 2-3 vegetarian entrees. Japan is an option (but note that in WDW most deep fried items are cooked in the same oil as chicken, so you will need to ask that anything fried is cooked in fresh oil)

The Noodle Station in MK has a great huge veggie noodle bowl.

Lots of options - let us know if you need us to find some old threads for you, and I'll be happy to post some links.

I only ate there twice, and asked very very carefully. They assured me no, and that they were quite popular.

I didn't end up getting sick, which is usually the indicator. I believe that I DID hear that a long time ago, which is why I never ate there.... I've only had the egglant there, though!
