It was the local Junior Golf Championship, Round 1, today. This is played over 3 rounds and at the moment my son is the leader, by 2 strokes.
He won this event last year, leading from the first day.

We are (fingers crossed) that he can do it again. Have to wait until next Monday though, for the next round.

Thats great news Sue

All I can do is hit the ball, if it goes in the direction its a bonus :rotfl2:

Is this your sons first golf competition?

Brilliant Sue, well done to your son :thumbsup2
got my fingers and toes crossed for him! :thumbsup2

No Shane - we have a cupboard full of trophies !! He's only played for 3 years though ......... and had no professional training either.

Would take me all day to play one hole :lmao:

me and the dh are both golf pro's (although he now is in golf management) .... our trophies are now in boxes in the attic! (yes - it was that long ago!!)

That's excellent Sue, good luck to your DS for the next round :thumbsup2

My DH is a pro too, so if he wants any advice let me know, he's doing great, hope he does well in the next rounds :thumbsup2

Thanks everyone !! He's a 6.9 handicap Islandmum ! (Says he would love to be a golf Pro or go into golf management in some way though). Just needs a sponsor now, so he says.

well this is now the hardest part .... cutting your handicap from 7 down to scratch or close is hard.

my advice - this is where he would need to get a good coach, and that should help him to do it faster than trying on your own.

Once his handicap gets to 3 (or maybe 4 these days) or below he could register with the PGA as a trainee, get a job with a PGA Pro who holds training status (most do) and from there its 3-4 years of being a trainee until final exams and Head Professional status. And these days its fairly expensive too.

or he could stay as an amateur and take a Diploma/Degree course like at Merrist Wood College where they do Golf Management.

Hope today goes well for him .... do let us know how he goes!

I think it's only 5 you need to get to, I vaguely remember DH saying that it should be lower! Make sure he realises that he still has to do well in his GCSE's to become an assistant, they have minimum grades required. Does the Pro at his club have any young assistants he could ask?

Just bumping this up as Round 2 has started !!

He's up at the golf course "preparing" right now. Doesn't tee off until 2.30 pm.. though.

Fingers crossed !!
