I've not seen any holdups, murders, crimes of any nature with a magic wand.

Dowel Rods I Am sure are used in art class, used to help weight down the bottom of maps....so surely the school is setting a bad example if the "shape" was a problem.

The more posts I read like this, the more home schooling seems attractive! Not because of teachers, I think most do a very good job. But because of very stupid school and district rules like this. I do not have the type of personality that can deal with stupidity on this level.

Yes, they gave it to him to take home. The sucky part is, he lost his show and tell priviledges (according to him - that wasn't in the email) for a month. He just got it yesterday and was really proud of it, poor kid.

I'm sure if you had even an inkling of an idea that this would be considered a weapon, you wouldn't have let him take it in. Now he will lose show and tell over their lack of common sense???

Well, then, if a wand constitutes a weapon, all writing utensils, compasses, anything with a point needs to be considered a weapon as well. As one who was (accidentally) punctured with a pencil...those things are dangerous!
