My son got in trouble for bringing a weapon to school

So is this the teacher?

Thank God our sons don't share teachers. My son took his light saber to school for show and tell after we came home from Disney (at his teacher's direction) IMAGINE the damage that could be done with a plastic light saber! :scared1: ;)

That is crazy!!!

Just last one week one of my DD's middle school teachers told the students to bring either a razor blade or box cutter to school so they could cut out things from a foam board for class projects they were working on. When DD told DH that she was supposed to bring a razor blade or box cutter to school he said, "Is your teacher crazy or just stupid??" She would have gotten suspended had she brought either of those things to school! DD told her teacher the next day that her dad got mad about that request and she kind of had that lightbulb "oh duh" moment and said, "Oh, I guess that wasn't a good idea, huh?"

DH and I are both teachers.

A pretend wand is a weapon now? Wow.

Do they put gates around the trees? Because a stick might fall from one if they don't watch it....

My DS11 takes a pair of drumsticks to school every Tuesday for his lesson. I hope he doesn't get in trouble for having a weapon! Seriously, this zero-tolerance thing is way out of hand. Kids can't even take Tylenol to school for headaches or cramps because they're not allowed to carry "drugs!"

how funny!
many years ago, my sister-in-law was not allowed to dress her kids in any costume for halloween with weapons of any sort. (also, no monsters, etc).
so, she dressed my nephew as a chef, with a big white chef's hat, apron, and spatula. the neighbor did the same.
there, at the bus stop, were the 2 "chefs" ... "sword fighting" with their spatulas!!!!:rotfl2:

:lmao:
Obviously future The Next Iron Chef, or Hell's Kitchen contestants.

To the OP --- :sad2: . Feel for you and your little one. Keep us posted.

I can't wait to see what the outcome of this is! :lmao: We watched Chamber of Secrets last night and I was thinking how handy one of those wands would be...... :thumbsup2

One would think the media would have picked up on this.....

Why can't they use a little common sense with their zero tolerance policies? :confused3
Because the whole definition of "zero tolerance" is "zero common sense". There is ZERO wiggle room in those rules. For some reason they think that allowing a child to bring a plastic knife would make another child think it's OK to bring a machete.

Okay, this one makes my blood pressure go up! Seriously people, a toy WAND??
Um, there are no such things as spells! Just what did they expect he would DO with said wand? The teachers have lost their minds. You really must take this up with administration asap, for your child. And a couple of pages back, a poster said to take your DH with you-and this is very important! Good luck with this!

I agree that you should take it up with the school administration on Monday morning, first thing. Study the weapons policy front to back and be prepared to explain how the wand does doesn not meet the definition of a weapon.

On a side note, it really would be funny if you dressed up in wizard attire, as well. :rotfl2:

:confused3 What do you mean? I did not alert the media and, while it would not seem much more ridiculous to me than what they did, the teacher or school did not either, I'm assuming.

:lmao: Oh, that's tempting!

This has got to be the stupidest thing I have EVER heard of! Definitely follow up with administration on Monday--you've got to show that at least YOU have some common sense, unlike the school

This reminds me of what happend to my daughter last month:
dd is 13 and goes to the middle school which is across the street from the high school. The high school students were taken into the middle school to hide in the gym, delaying the middle school's hour time frame. Why? Becuse a lunch lady found a abandoned school project in the hallway and she thought it was a bomb. She told the pricipal and they contacted the bomb squad. What was this "bomb"? Some kid had a to make a invention so he made a pizza throwing machine. :lmao: how in the world does a pizza throwing machine look like a bomb. DD got a picture text of the thing and it has no resemblence of a bomb!! What are people thinking these days??:confused3

Also, I was thinking of the Firestarter book and movie. SHE made things burn using her *mind*. Should those not be brought to school, too?.

:rotfl::rotfl2: good one!!!

another stupid "zero tolerance" story., this one "medicine"
my son was asthmatic. I told the proper authorities at school that he needed to keep his inhaler with him.. their response: keep one at home and one in the school office.(of course now I had to pay for 2 inhalers) anyway,
where did he have an asthma attack? on the school bus on the way home!! good thing his extra inhaler was safely in the school office! I was on the phone that day with the president of the school board. From that day forward, he was allowed to keep his inhaler WITH him at all times!!
(not to mention the time he had an attack on the field during gym class, and the gym teacher had to run all the way back to the office to get his inhaler)

In our district, kids who use inhalers and are old enough to self-medicate can keep the inhaler with them, as long as they have doctor and parental permission. That at least makes sense.
