I've never done the Disney cruise, so I admit to knowing nothing

My sister got engaged on Valentine's Day and is planning a small, family-only wedding. First, she thought a Bahamas wedding would be nice, but you just never know how it's gonna turn out.

Then I mentioned getting married on a Disney Cruise ship and her face lit up! :sunny:

Do any of you experts know anything about the Disney "Wedding at Sea" package? Any personal experiences you'd like to share?

The package seems pretty nice: they provide almost everything, and the package includes dinner at Palo on the evening of the wedding.

Personally, I'd be so excited to be participating in a Disney Wedding at Sea! :hyper:

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she gives this idea the 'thumbs up" ::yes::

I'm sure it is lovely, and I use to tell my sister that she ought to do this, until I read more about it. Now this doesn't bother a lot of people (obviously many do get married on the cruise), but we didn't like the idea that it wasn't until the last day of the cruise you are actually married (sort of like having the 'honeymoon' before the wedding). Also, someone said that when you return to port in the US there is someone there to 'really' marry you because it isn't official at Castaway Cay (legally, for some reason). Again, I wouldn't like that, I would want 'my wedding day' to be the day I really married.

Again, this doesn't bother a lot of people, it is probably all about a frame of mind. So now, I am trying to talk her into getting married at WDW and THEN going on the Disney Cruise for her honeymoon.

You actually have a small, private civil ceremony at the terminal at checkin before you board your cruise. You're legally married for the entire time you're on your cruise. That way you don't need to worry about your status if, for some reason, the ship is unable to dock at Castaway Cay.

Hi there! Congratulations on your sister's engagement. I am getting married in October on teh Magic. There is a thread called DCL Wedding on here. If you do a search you will be able to find it. There is all sorts of information posted about the wedding.

Oh, I got the impression it was at the terminal when you got back. Well that is better, to be 'married' during the whole cruise. It still just doesn't seem like what I would want (but that is for my sister to decide).

Thanks for clearing that up.

I had been under the impression that weddings were only performed on land (from various readings.) However, on our 2/7/04 cruise, there was a wedding on the ship on a sea day. The flowers and cake were lovely. I know that the wedding couple brought 40 people along!

I really don't know any details as I wasn't involved (other than being in the same dining room with the wedding party). However, there is no question in my mind that a wedding ceremony took place on the ship. It may or may not have been the legal ceremony. It was definitely NOT a vow renewal.

I'd make sure all your information is current, as I know that the "old" information was "no weddings at sea."

I was married on Castaway Cay on July 4th. The official ceremony is done in the terminal before you leave. I technically was married June 28 (or something like that). At the time I was married they offered a ship wedding and an island wedding though the ship one wasn't advertised. All the cast members I talked to said they really liked the island weddings better. I really enjoyed not having to stress about the wedding arrangements. Disney takes care of EVERYTHING! Cake, flowers, dinner, any reservations, and you have an on board coordinator who remembers to have your dressed steamed the night before (you know, if you forget). It was absolutley amazing. I can not say that enough. Like I said on the other thread, I have pictures (400), so if you want to see them, let me know! Or if you have any other ?s.

On the 11/15 Eastern there were 2 weddings on Thursday while we were at sea. We saw one of the couples in the atrium having pictures taken while we were getting ready to go into Lumiere's for dinner.

My husband and I had our ceremony on Castaway Cay almost two years ago! The whole Disney experience was awesome. We did the three day cruise on the Wonder and brought 8 family members. We never considered the cruise as our honeymoon so getting married on the last full day of the cruise was not an issue. In fact, we both booked separate rooms and stayed in separate rooms until we married at Castaway Cay :)

We also have over 400 amazing photos from our Castaway Cay wedding. They are so awesome...I smile everytime I look at them.

Good Luck!
