My mom's in Haiti... [UPDATE: One year later, pg 18!]

Great news Kathy! I hope she gets home soon. I can't even begin to imagine what it is like in Haiti right now. I will be thinking and praying for everyone there. :grouphug:

Kathy that is great news that you know they are all together. I hope they are home soon.

I've gotten word that my mom's team has all made it to the airport in Haiti, apparently transported there by UN vehicles. Still not a lot of info on when they'll fly out, how (sounds like they've been cleared through the State Dept for military transport), or what destination, but this is very welcome progress. Also no real information on their physical condition.

Thank you to everyone for the continued prayers and support.

That is good news! Hopefully, she'll be home soon.

That's great news Kathy! Prayers continuing until you report her safe at home!!

I am so glad you have had some news of evacuation. Still praying for her team and all those in Haiti.

Kathy has posted on Facebook that her mom is in a hospital in Miami. Lots more details, but I'll leave it up to her to post. Our prayers for a safe return to the US have been answered.

Update from CNN less than an hour ago:

Haiti halts flights into overburdened airport
January 14, 2010 -- Updated 2128 GMT (0528 HKT)

Washington (CNN) -- The Haitian government has halted flights into the Port-au-Prince airport for now, because ramp space is too crowded, and there is no fuel, a spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration said Thursday.

Laura Brown said no flights from the United States will be taking off until clearance is given.

One military aircraft was circling the airport in a holding pattern, and 10 civilian aircraft were waiting to land, Brown said.

I'm sure they're working on the problem, since this means a delay to the planes bringing in humanitarian aid as well. Hopefully they'll have it re-openend soon ...

Edited to add - glad to see the update from Towncrier! Looks like they were able to get out before the airport closed.

Kathy, we've been thinking about you since you first posted. So glad you've heard some news. I'll keep praying until you post that she's landed safely on US soil.

I am so excited for Kathy and her family to know that her mom is back the U.S. God bless Nancy!

Oh thank goodness! Hopefully Kathy has gotten to talk to her mom...I know if it were me I wouldn't be able to relax in the slightest until I'd actually spoken to her....hopefully her injuries are minor.

thanks for that link Kevin - Kathy's mom, Nancy, is so impressive....
she and the other woman - how completely terrifying...i can't even begin to imagine being trapped under rubble...
