My Magical Journey to Running the Half Marathon TR Link! p.107

I've been to alot of the battlefields and Civil War stuff and Natural Bridge! I might be able to help as well! :)

That is, if it's ok with Carissa! :)
any info is greatly appreciated!!

I've been out to Lexington and the Natural Bridge as well. It's beautiful out there. I saw Stonewall Jackson's house and Monticello.

Cherie - How far are you wanting to travel? I figured you just wanted to do Richmond area and Williamsburg?

We are open to anything right now. I've been trying to find some inexpensive activites to do with the kids. I can only drag them to so many historical things without there being a total mutiny.

How much time do you think we need in williamsburg? and what pass do I need to buy? I'm unsure of which one I need and being a tight wad, I want to go as cheap as I can.

what is a farm share?

I can't believe you're finishing this week! HOORAY! I'm so proud!!!

Amanda

Thanks Mom! :rotfl:

Way to go Carissa! :cheer2:

I agree with you....making better food choices is all about making changes that are easy to live with and don't attack the budget! I've never been a fan of processed foods and have always done most of my cooking from scratch, but the simple switch to whole grains was huge. Also, eliminating chips and cookies was something I hesitated doing across the board because I thought my kids would freak! But they have been very accepting of the changes.

Good for you! Keep up the great work! :thumbsup2

Even making small changes is a great start. :thumbsup2

Thanks Carissa. I didn't know you had a blog. I will have to check it out. And I will definitely try that granola bar receipe!:)

You're welcome!

If *I* can do this, ANYONE can do it. ;)

Yeah... what he said!! :lmao:

Great job, Carissa!

Kathy

Thanks Kathy :)

Morning, Carissa!!

Glad you're making such healthy food choices! That's one of the things I'm afraid of in moving back. All of our foods here are non-processed and cooked from scratch- no other choice. When we move back, I know I'l be tempted to make quick runs through Taco Bell, and buy prepared foods once in a while. I'm in love with my whole foods bulk order company though, so that ought to help out a lot with the temptations to cut corners.

It was easier when we lived in Australia. While they do have processed foods over there, it wasn't nearly as popular as it is here.

Now I'm trying to buy things that are grown/produced locally. That isn't possible for all of my items, but I feel purchasing from my local organic grocer instead of the chain grocery store is supporting a local business.

Haven't checked in in awhile...you as always...ROCK! :worship:

Thanks Julie! I need to check in on your PTR too.

I don't know that I'm going to be much of a help to you. We have lived her a little less than a year and when we went to Williamsburg, we got free passes for military. I've heard the pass for Jamestown, Williamsburg, and Yorktown is a good deal, but that's only if you're going to spend a good number of days. Colonial Williamsburg is cool and you could definitely spend a few days checking everything out, but it's a lot of walking and I feel the kids would have enough after one day. Jamestown is smaller and definitely a one day place (and cheaper).

what is a farm share?

A CSA farm share is where you pay a farmer a certain amount of money at the start of the growing season and then once a week for roughly 20 weeks (depends on where you live and the growing season) you get a basket of produce from the farmer. It helps support the local farmers and assures you get a great amount of fresh, local fruits and veggies.

I just came across your report and I have to say it is very inspiring. I am looking into registering for the disney princess 1/2 marathon in march 2011. I thought this would be not only an awesome experience but also a motivational way to loose the weight I put on over the years since having my children. I have about 50-60 lbs to loose  I played 3 varsity sports in highschool and was always extremely in shape until I had my babies and now have let myself go. I enjoy eating! The stress and business of my days make it easy to grab junk food and hence the reason I am now very overweight. I have just dropped the bomb on my mom giving her the idea that it would be great for the two of us to go to disney for a few days and celebrate being women. I then told asked her if she would pay my way as a christmas gift. I am an only child so I have to admit I am a little spoiled still....even at the age of 31. My mom usually spends alot on christmas so I would love the trip instead of any other gifts. I know my mom would love to get away as well as myself needing the time too. I too would feel horrible leaving the boys and my husband behind but sometimes you have to do these things for yourself. right? Well just wanted to say thanks again for the inspiration....I will be following along on you journey...Good Luck!
Ps. Keep an eye out....if I get the green light from my mom I will start my PTR!

:welcome: and thanks for stopping by! Challenging myself with the half-marathon has really helped me change my life in 2010. It was the catalyst I needed to do something and get serious.

I think a women's only trip with your mom would be awesome and very empowering. :thumbsup2

I'll definitely keep an eye out for your PTR (and if you start one, feel free to post here).

How'd your very last C25K run go??

lame-o me is still in W1. :lmao::lmao::lmao: But the warm weather is really here to stay now, I hope, and I plan to notch it up to W2 on Saturday!

Well, my friends, I have reached the end of my first goal. Today, I ran the last day of the Couch to 5K program. :woohoo: I'm a real graduate! :yay: It feels good to have stuck with something for so long and actually accomplish a goal. :thumbsup2 Since I started the program, I have lost 18 pounds. I was hoping to be able to say I'd lost 20, but my weight loss has slowed a bit the past couple of weeks. However, every time I step on the wii, my weight and BMI continues to drop. Today was a big day for me because it stopped telling me I was obese and said I was just overweight.

So, what's the plan now? I will continue to run three times a week for 30 minutes. My goal is to slowly increase my speed until I'm doing a 10-minute mile. I'm hoping I can reach that goal by the time my husband returns home and I begin running outside. At that point I'll start having a long run outside on the weekends. In September I will begin training for the half-marathon. I also would love to lose another 20 pounds before September.

Thank you to everyone for your continued support. You will never know how much it helped keep me going. :grouphug: My training journal entries will become more informal from here on out. I also have lots of plans starting to form for my trips and I will try to get to that soon. :flower3:

My totals for W9D3:

Speed: 3.5 for warm up, 4.0 for jog (did the last 1.5 minutes at 4.5)/3.8 cool down
Duration: 40 minutes
Distance: 2.7 miles

Glad the weather is improving! You'll get there. :goodvibes

Congratulations! 18 pounds is wonderful.
Glad you downgraded, but it would be nice if it could come up with nicer terms. Whatever happened to pleasingly plump? That sounds better than obese, and you certainly never looked obese to me in any of your pictures! Silly wii!!! I fear what it would say to me! :scared1:

:yay: Carissa! Great job on completing the program. And if you get up to 10 minute miles you'll be faster than me. I usually run around 11 minute miles (5.5 mph). If I do much faster than that I breathe harder than I like and get tired too fast. You will be so ready to start the half training come the fall:cool1:

Congratulations Carissa!! For the 18 pounds and for finishing the program!!:banana:

I can't wait to hear about your half-marathon! :thumbsup2

Carissa! :worship::worship: :hippie::hippie: :woohoo::woohoo: :dance3::yay::dance3::yay:

I am so happy for you!! Keep up the good work!!!! I can't wait to see what you do for training for the marathon, and of course hearing all your Disney plans!!

:cool1:Congratulations Carissa (and thanks for sharing your highs and lows with the rest of us- you really have motivated so many of us to try too!):woohoo:

Whoooo hooo Carissa!!!!:banana::banana::banana:

Girl, I am so proud of you!!! You have achieved something I so desperately need to do for myself. Hats off to you. I have all the respect in the world for what you have done. I can't tell you how many times I have tried to do this but gave up without really trying, or just kept putting off til tomorrow.

You are so inspiring!!!:goodvibes
