My Magical Journey to Running the Half Marathon TR Link! p.107

~ Week 9 ~

I had a great workout week. On Monday I did wii EA Sports Active, Tuesday I ran, Wednesday I worked out again on the wii, Thursday I ran, Friday I went from medium to difficult on the Sports Active, and yesterday I ran again. It feels good to have a day off today! :woohoo:

I completed all of my runs as planned. Tuesday was 28 minutes and Thursday and Saturday were 30 minutes. One more run on Tuesday and then I graduate from the C25K program!! I still can't believe I've made it this far.

My eating has been going great. I have completely done away with processed foods. I buy just about everything we eat at the farmer's market including our meat and dairy. At first it seemed like it was going to cost me so much money (because real food and locally grown food is more expensive - as it should be because it costs money to grow real food the proper way). But, since I only buy basic, whole foods, my list has dwindled. I've also cut down on the amount of meat we eat and I'm trying to make more vegetarian dishes. I can't wait for our farm share to begin in three weeks!

I plan on posting Tuesday after I finish my run and doing a sort of wrap up of my experience on the C25K program. :thumbsup2

WTG!!! :woohoo::woohoo:

Did you tell your DH you were doing this or is it going to be a surprise when he sees you? That would be great if you didn't tell him and when he gets home was like 'Who is this girl...' ;)

At the risk of sounding stupid can I ask why your runs take longer(as in 40 minutes)? Does that include warm up?
I'm back at the start because I missed so much but going out tonight doing W2D1. Ihated the gym so going to do it outside now the days are longer! Wish me luck! 10 weeks until my holiday so I gotta get serious:rolleyes1

Great job Carissa!:cheer2: I knew you could do it!

It's been an amazing journey so far. :goodvibes

Yes, he knows. I thought about not sending him any pictures of me so he'd be surprised when he saw me, but I couldn't help myself. :rolleyes1 I still think he'll be surprised when he sees me in person. :thumbsup2

You are doing an amazing job!! :cool1:

I think it's great that you are helping your whole family by making better food choices! :thumbsup2 It's really hard to do with all of the junk out there & our busy schedules so a big :cheer2: to you!!

Yes. The total time includes my 5 minute warm up and 5 minute cool down. I consider the whole thing part of my workout. :thumbsup2

Good luck! You can do it! :cool1: I'm equal parts excited and nervous about running outside for the first time. Luckily, I have another 3 months or so before I have to try it.

Thanks Amy :goodvibes I have always made most of our meals from scratch so it hasn't been too much of a change for us. The hardest part is taking the time every couple of days to make another loaf of bread or a batch of homemade granola bars. I'm sure it will get easier as I get into more of a routine.

Thanks for the luck I need it-I despised that whole standing next to skinney people on a treadmill while I die thing that you get at the gym so I'm hoping I do better outside and I'll just go swimming at the gym instead.

Glad to hear you're doing so well with the diet too (I have a great curried carrot soup recipe if you like spicy food). I'm trying to get rid of all the easter eggs here by having friends over and giving them chocolate so I dont eat it:rotfl: I'm practically force feeding them to get rid of it :lmao:
We've started making juices instead of baking buns this week-I reckon if I do 1 thing a week the kids wont notice so much:cool1:

I completely understand why you would not want to run at the gym. That's been one of the things I have really liked about starting out on the treadmill at home - no one sees me. ;)

I have made some things that the kids weren't overly fond of, but they're pretty used to me trying to sneak things into their food. :rolleyes1 I've never been one to buy junk food for the house. I would eat it and the boys don't need it. I'm trying really hard to teach them how to eat healthy so that they don't struggle when they're older and they develop good habits now. :thumbsup2

I'm with on the developing good habits now when they're young-I tend to make food from scratch too so even if it's chicken tenders I know it's actually chicken!!
My kids have wacky tastes though no matter what I try but I just figure that if what they do eat is good and healthy they'll come around eventually!!
Thankfully they all love fruit so at least theres 1 healthy snack they get at WDW!:)

Carissa you are truly an inspiration! :goodvibes You are doing such great things for you and your family!!!

We have been in a farm share for the last 9 months - you will LOVE it!!! Every week it's like Christmas...you get a nice box of surprises to fill your kitchen. And the food is awesome!

BTW - do you mind sharing your recipe for homemade granola bars?:flower3:

My youngest is extremely picky! But, now that he's about to turn 6, I've explained to him that he needs to eat what the rest of us eat at dinner time. He is doing pretty well with it, but I definitely have to deal with some pickiness with my younger two.

Shopping at the farmer's market has been really neat too. I love getting milk in glass bottles and the great customer service I get at the organic grocer is awesome. :thumbsup2

I posted the granola bar recipe on my blog:

There is also a link to the orginal recipe that I tweaked for those who want to use more traditional ingredients. :thumbsup2

Way to go Carissa! :cheer2:

I agree with you....making better food choices is all about making changes that are easy to live with and don't attack the budget! I've never been a fan of processed foods and have always done most of my cooking from scratch, but the simple switch to whole grains was huge. Also, eliminating chips and cookies was something I hesitated doing across the board because I thought my kids would freak! But they have been very accepting of the changes.

Good for you! Keep up the great work! :thumbsup2

Morning, Carissa!!

Glad you're making such healthy food choices! That's one of the things I'm afraid of in moving back. All of our foods here are non-processed and cooked from scratch- no other choice. When we move back, I know I'l be tempted to make quick runs through Taco Bell, and buy prepared foods once in a while. I'm in love with my whole foods bulk order company though, so that ought to help out a lot with the temptations to cut corners.
