You may hear stories of things happening out there...don't worry, he'll make it. At the end of the 13 weeks when he has his pin, it will all be worth it. I see it every week :D

I can not wait for that day! :) Thank you for your post Luvdisney81

His Staff Sgt showed up today around 3:15 and took him. They are putting the recruits up in a hotel for the night, they will get up at 4am and get a physical and do whatever else. They should be on the bus and heading to SC by 2:00pm. :(

The Discovery Times channel was airing Making of a Marine all weekend - we all sat and watched that.....my bother is in for it, that is for sure. :(

It seems like a million years ago that I left Philly for Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island. I served from 1987 to 1993. Your brother is about to embark on a life changing adventure. In all honesty...boot camp is not easy...in fact it down right sucks...but it is not without purpose. There will be times when he hates it...and times when he loves it. He will certainly need every ounce of encouragement (in the form of letters) from home. The Drill Instructors at Parris Island are the finest in the world. They will push your brother to limits that he never knew that he could reach. Keep in mind that they will do it professionally and safely. When he is finished and he earns the title of U.S. Marine he will join the ranks of the finest warriors in the world.
During my tour of duty (My basic MOS was Infantry and I was in a Raid Company), I participated in 2 large scale combat operations (Operation Desert Storm...Part I, and Operation Restore Hope, Somalia) and both times, the discipline and stress management techniques I learned at Parris Island kept me alive.
I think that in these troubled times it is important to remember that regardless of what your political views are, or what you think about the war...remember that the kids out there fighting it are our brother, sisters, sons, daughters, husbands, wives, etc. and it is important to support them.
Didn't mean to get off on a rant...Best of luck to your brother, he and all of the other service men and women will be in my prayers.
Semper Fi.

Thank him for those of us who have a two year old boy whom I do not want to have to get drafted in 16 years. He is doing a wonderful thing making our world a better place!

 Congrats to him & may he stay safe. He is doing a very honorable thing and you should be proud. Thank him from me and my family.

Sheri, who currently has several friends serving in Iraq.

They are staying positive and staying strong.

Awww. It will be alright, Christine. It will be alright. It's sad to see younger brothers or sisters leave home, and especially leave home and go into something like boot camp! It will be alright. I hope today is a better day for you.

Well my mom got the phone call about 20 minutes ago...he is there and safe.

Of course they make him read this piece of paper - my mom did not understand much but she knows it was him. Now the torture shall begin.

Thank you all for your kind words and hugs. :)
