My Journal to Me - Comments welcome!

Hang in there, Anna! pixiedust: That weight is going to continue to slip right off especially with your long hikes. I couldn't help noticing you had sausage gumbo & sourdough bread this weekend while I had jambalaya and sourdough bread. How did you stop at just one slice? Once I get started on that bread I don't want to quit. I'd gladly trade in one whole meal for a loaf!

Congrats on the 20lbs lost since joining Wish! :woohoo:

So, what was the verdict? Good news I hope! And if not, you'll be there next week. As long as the overall trend is downward, you are doing it right! :cheer2:

All that water seems to have paid off - WI this morning was 165.0!! :cheer2: I really tried to get the scale to flip to 164.5, but it wouldn't. I'll take 165.0 though  .

I had a major chocolate attack this morning (and it better be too early for TOM!). I knew DH had put the MeleMac's in the wine fridge but have not been interested in them until today. I only had one this morning, then two more tonight. I'm thinking I'll send them to work with him tomorrow or it could be bad. I tried out a new crockpot recipe today. I wasn't wild about it, but it was super easy and the rest of the family really liked it, so I guess I'll keep it in the rotation. Didn't get to walk during swim practice. DD3 needed to go #2 (TMI - sorry!). I didn't want to get out on our walk with no recourse. Should have gone for the walk. She made 3 trips to the potty with no results.

8:30a - peach, whole wheat toast w/ LC cheese wedge
11:15a - 1 MeleMac, S'more granola bar
2p - hard boiled egg, peach
4:30p - 1 egg white, 1 deviled egg
7p - BBQ pork, 1/2 onion roll, salad, 14oz skim milk, 2 more MeleMac's
3 f/v
104oz water
no walk :sad2:

Amy - good verdict!

Jane - I love bread, but I was really determined to see a good number this morning on the scale so I behaved. I really wanted the buttery, garlic bread DH had made, but I only had a nibble of that.

Amy - weekends are tough. DH takes over a lot of the cooking which is great, but it is generally not super healthy. I do think the water made a difference too.

Congratulations Anna!!!!! :Pinkbounc I'm glad to hear that you had a great weigh-in!!! :woohoo: Keep up the good work! :cheer2:

I hope your Tuesday is a good one! :sunny:

Congratulations on 165, Anna!! :dancer: All your discipline (and that water) paid off!

I'm curious -- what is a melemac?

Thank you so much for your support in my journal. You are so positive and upbeat and I look forward so much to reading everything you have to say. I am so with you on enjoying getting outside. I am dreading the cold weather that is headed this way. I think it is supposed to dip into the 30s this weekend. UGH! Enjoy the California warmth and sunshine!

BTW, congrats to your DD on swimming. That takes a lot of sacrifice and discipline and I know it is a huge commitment for all of you, so, kudos to your little fish :fish:

Keep up the great work! :thumbsup2

Yay on the weigh in!!! You are doing awesome!!! :cheer2:  :Pinkbounc :cool1: :yay:

What was the crockpot recipe? I make something in the crockpot at least once a week and am always looking for some new recipes. Now that it is getting cooler I can make my veggie soup again. :teeth:

Send the melemacs (whatever they are) with DH to work! I bought the kids some chocolate Halloween characters in London and I really dread opening the bag... :rolleyes1

Great job on the weigh in! :cheer2: It shouldn't take long for either of us to lose the next 20!

good job on the weigh in!!!
Keep up the great work girl...you are really an inspiration!
I'm 165 too....wanna be 145.... :sad2:

Congratulations on the weigh in! 165 is like normal girl weight, you must be thrilled (I sure would be  ). Too funny with your dd having to go #2! I remember those days. I feel I have crossed a threshold since I have no idea when my kids have bm's anymore! Keep up the good work with the water, hope your daughter's bathroom habits don't mess up anymore workouts!

I couldn't take my long beach walk (high tide). I should have gone for a walk someplace else. Instead, I spent too much time cooking yesterday. I was trying out some new recipes. Good, but I'm not sure they were all really worth the effort. Mostly, I was finding excuses for not working on the PTA newsletter. I am a master procastinator.

As for the new recipes, it cooled down here this week and I got in a cooking mood (and there was the above mentinoed newsletter I am trying to ignore!) I tried out some things from "Healthy Kitchen" by Andrew Weil & Rosey Dailey. I like the basic premise behind this cookbook - not low carb. low fat, etc, jsut healthy eating - and it gives a full nutritional info for each recipe. So, if you want low carb, etc you can pick and choose your recipes. I tried three things yesterday:
1. wintersquash & apple soup - good, kids thought it was ok. Except for peeling the butternut squash & apples, not as hard as I thought it would be. I think I'll keep it in the rotation.
2. Roasted chicken w/ garlic - again good, but too time intensive and not that much better than a roasted chicken from the grocery store. The kids liked the chicken part, but not the veggie part (no surprise there :rotfl2: ). I don't think it was worth all the effort.
2b. As part of the recipe, you roast heads of garlic, very easy. The kids didn't like it though for some reason, and they love garlic.
3. Apple Cranberry Crisp - excellent and everyone really liked. However, I want one of those apple peeler, corer, slicer things if I'm going to make it again. The family had vanilla ice cream with there's but, I thought it was great even without the ice cream.

b- 2 slices ham (making kid lunches), 1c GoLean, banana, 12oz skim milk
s- FF yogurt
l - string cheese & 5 triscuits
d - 1.5c squash & apple soup w/ dollop of walnut cilantro pesto (yum!), roasted chicken W/ tomato, shallots, fennel, garlic, rosemary, 1 slice bread w/ roasted garlic, 1 serving apple cranberry crisp, 24oz skim milk
4 f/v
60oz water
no exercise :sad2:

Thanks everyone for the congrats on my WI. I still have a long way to go, but this was a big milestone for me. It is all of your support that has kept me going on the rough patches and will keep me going on the rough patches to come. Next milestone will be to break out of the 160's. I really appreciate you :grouphug: .

MeleMacs - sinfully bad treats my DSil sends periodically from Hawaii: chocolate covered toffee covered macademia nuts. DH can eat one and be done. Me - handfuls! :sad2: They are safely at his office now.

AmyM: Monday's crockpot recipe: 1 pork butt roast covered w/ 1 bottle BBQ sauce. Cook on high for 4-5 hours. The kids and DH loved it and definitely doesn't get any easier. However, I had expected more like a pulled pork (tender). I think next time I will try 8 hours on low instead and see if that makes the meat more tender.

Amy: She still hasn't gone!!! Never had this issue with the other two. She is really good about eating fruits and veggies, but also loves bread and cheese. The Dr doesn't want her to have a lot of juice becuase she is 3% for weight. I am ready to pull out the baby prunes today.

Thank God I've never been to Hawaii! I have enough trouble with the chocolate covered macadamia nuts. I've never heard of these but they sound delicious!

Thanks for the food reviews. I agree with you, I hate time intensive recipes. Is Rosey Dailey the cook who used to work for Oprah?

Quickie update today. I have bunco tonight and my crazy thursday, so I probably won't get on again for awhile. Printer ran out of ink last night while DD12 was printing her science project - "Who wants to be a Scientist?" game patterned after the Millionaire game. Apparently a nearly full ink cartridge is not enough to print 27 almost all black transparency sheets! I picked up more ink this morning and printed the last sheets for her. Then I walked to her school (farther than I thought!) and left them at the office for her. Luckily, she doesn't have science until after lunch.

b- 1.5 granola bars (DD3 wanted one too, but then decided she didn't like it, so I ate the rest of hers.)
l - 1.5c squash & apple soup w/ dollop of walnut cilantro pesto (YUM!)
s - .5c SF applesauce, 2 slices cheddar, 5 LF triscuits
d - :confused3 gonna be at bunco so we'll see how I do.
2 f/v so far, plan on at least salad at bunco
64oz water so far
90 minute walk w/ jogger stroller :cool1:

ETA: bunco eats: I drank lots of water and passed on the wine. Did really well at dinner w/ 1 small serving each of 2 different salads and 1 carne asada taco. I did have guacamole on the taco, but otherwise, not too bad. Then we started playing and I started eating the snacks. They were this coconut crunch thing and a Cashew Crunch thing. (I didn't eat the chocolate, at least!) I kept thinking "These must be the things AmyM talked about!" Dang they were so good and horribly addictive. I was actually still a bit hungry after dinner, but way over full after all the snacks. Ugh!!

Jane, I love Hawaii and in my ideal world would retire there. MeleMacs are awesome, but evil! Yes, Rosey Dailey used to be Oprah's cook. She actually lives here (when she is in town) and did a discussion/book signing several years ago when "Healthy Kitchen" came out. Most of the recipes I have tried have been good and not too complicated.

Congrats on the 165 Anna!!! That is great!!! You are doing a wonderful job!!!
Way to go on cooking....I have some of those magazines and have wanted to try some of the receipes but I am too chicken to try them. Afraid that I am not going to like them!

Way to go on working out....that is great!!!

Keep up the good work. You are doing a great job!

Happy Thursday :)

Anna, I think it sounds like you held your own pretty well at Bunco. Skipping the wine was a very good thing. I'll bet you didn't eat as many snacks as you think you did. Great job with the walking, 90 minute walk is awesome! And you are a nice mom to take your dd's science project up to her, I had to do the same thing with ds' math journal yesterday! Are we great moms or what? HOpe your day today wasn't too crazy, at least its almost the weekend!

Take my usual crazy thursday and throw in a 1.5hour meeting at DD3's preschool and a 2 hour mandatory PTA meeting this evening, and that was my day. I am resigned to not having time to exercise. On the good side, I guess, today I really didn't have time to eat either. :rotfl2:

7:15a - breakfast bar (driving kids to school)
9:15a - (Preschool Coffee) 1/2 slice lemon bread, 1 mini bran muffin
12:00p - 1.5c squash soup w/ dollop cilantro walnut pesto (this is so yummy!)
5:45p - LC wedge, 3 LF triscuits (driving to PTA meeting)
6:00p - (PTA meeting) 3 stoneground type crackers w/ rondele type spread
8:20p - (planned after I finish here) burrito with turkey taco meat, sprinkle cheddar, tomato, salsa
2 f/v
64oz water
no exercise

Anna

Amy - I live for weekends! They can still be busy but at least I can tag team with DH.

Jaime - I've definitely tried some recipes that I won't make again. :rotfl2: But I have also found some good ones like the squash soup - YUM!

Hi Anna,

Sounds like yesterday was a busy day for you! I hope you have a relaxing weekend.....

Keep up the good work! You're doing great! :cheer2:

Hey Anna~~ It's the weekend....try to relax and enjoy it!!
You are doing great on the weightloss!! Keep it up!

So, did you at least win at Bunco??

marie

Hey Anna -- It sounds like you did pretty well at Bunco. I cannot believe how busy you are and you still find time to cook from a cookbook! I just tend to throw things together. Although I did recently make a weight watchers roasted autumn veggie soup that included parsnips and butternut squash. You are right -- peeling and cutting the squash is a lot of work and it was NOT easy to cut through.

Oh, and walnut pesto sounds sooo good on top! YUM!

Keep up the great work on all the smart eating. Even when you don't have time to exercise, your busy life keeps you hopping and it definitely looks like you are always conscientious about not "junking out"

BTW, how is DD's tummy doing?

Have a great weekend! I hope you get lots of time to relax and do some fun outside stuff to relax. :goodvibes: :sunny:

Hi Anna,

Sounds like you had a very busy day...the weekend is almost here, take some time and relax!

You're doing a great job....keep up the good work!!!

Have a great weekend!
