My Goodwill Find!

I love that shirt:goodvibes both ds's have worn ours.... and to the pp who said 'used clothes'....umm...LOTS of clothes you buy 'new' have been touched, fingered, handled, tried on.etc etc by multiple people, starting with the person sweating over a factory sewing machine to sew it together....:sad2: MOST clothes get tried on,and put back on the rack, therefore they are USED by the time i get to that store. Wash the clothes when you get home,no big deal!

to the OP, I frequently take a little 'mom break' at Goodwill or Savers...it's a fun way to search for hidden treasure without breaking the bank!:cool1: Finding cool disney souvies is part of the fun!

My cute Disney/Goodwill story :goodvibes

Background - we took our first trip to Disney at the beginning of Oct. last year and my DD and I ate at Cinderella's Royal Table. This was quite a splurge for us and we made other sacrifices so it could happen and it was totally worth it! Amazing memories -makes me smile to just think about. Well - at the end of Oct. we had a halloween party at church and my daughter went as Cinderella of course, and brought the wand she was given at CRT. (they have the words Cinderella Royal Table printed on the wand) As were we cleaning up after the party, the kids were chasing each other and --- the wand got dropped and broke in half. :sad1:

A few months later, a 10 year old boy from another family at church (also Disney obsessed) came to church with another CRT wand! His family was at goodwill and saw it on sale for .50 cents and he remembered my DD crying so hard, and asked his parents if they could get it for her! What a guy! :cheer2: What wonderful pixie dust. I should mention that this family has a 5 yr old girl and I suggested that they keep it for her, but they said no - they knew it would mean more to my DD, and that their daughter could wait until she got to go herself.

Well, happy endings everywhere - my DD was insanely happy, and their DD has a breakfast at CRT scheduled for this Sept. :cool1:

I don't buy a lot of clothes from our local goodwill only because I have such a hard time with detergent smells/allergy, but if I find a great deal they will get washed several times to get the smells out. But one thing I do shop for is ties for my husband. They are quite expensive in the stores, but only $2 at our local goodwill. I can usually find one decent one in the sea of awful ones LOL As a teacher he has to dress nicely but doesn't get the paycheck to back it up!

I just found FOUR Disney Pirates of the Caribbean shirts at our thrift store that are from the Disney parks and look very new if not brand new. My boys are thrilled and each got one.

I love thrift store bargains! I totally want that monorail shirt! We have some nice thrift stores in our area, and they're almost always my first stop when looking for "new" clothes. Having grown up with secondhand clothes (didn't get my first brand winter coat till I was 18), it's second nature to me to shop thrift stores first.

Don't know if it is all areas but here in GA, Tuesdays are senior days. 25% off for age 55 or older.

Anyone can buy brand new... but I enjoy the thrill of the hunt!

Great find and you've inspired me to go to GW right now while the rest of my family naps! :woohoo:

ugh. Nothing grosses me out more than used clothing. Sure hope you boiled the shirt before wearing it.

bawhahahhhahahahahhaha! i am so the same way. i do get stuff from stores but i also order online mostly because it is prewrapped and i also know it hasn't been messed with. i order all my swimsuits for this reason.

on the same note, i hate to throw things away so i will donate. except personal items. socks, underwear, bras. those are trashed. i was seriously icked by a thread here earlier this week where someone was garage selling their husbands old underwear. ewwww!

I recently found a Mickey purse from WDW at a local thrift store. You could tell it had never been used......I love that people bring presents to family, and they donate them to charity!

The thrill of the hunt! Yes, that's how I feel too. I like that $2 skirt better because I was lucky enough to find it, especially to find it for $2. It wouldn't be something I'd like as much if I spent $80 at the mall for that skirt.

Heh, I bought a swimsuit from goodwill...I do draw the line at underwear though :thumbsup2 I recently lost quite a bit of weight, and refused to spend 60-90$ on a suit, found one for $5 and its become my favorite. My MIL buys extra suits all the time from goodwill to leave at camp, that way if someone needs one we have it, or if someone walks off with one, were not out the money.

That is nasty. You mind as well buy used underwear there too. I would spend a little bit more money just to know that it is clean.

I'm sure they washed the swim suit prior to wearing it.........:sad2:

I also love to shop at GW. I found a few great things today actually.

My family recently got back from a trip to NYC / DC. AmIerican Girl Place was certainly on our list. A month before we left, I found my daughter an Amerian Girl Place NYC shirt at Goodwill - just like new. I was so excited - and saved DD's spending money. She had already decided she wanted to buy one. She just bought her doll a matching one instead.

Um, to me that is the same thing. Underwear and a swimsuit are no different. Congrats OP on your find. I have that shirt and love it. Personally I cannot bring myself to shop for 2nd hand clothing.

I also love the "thrill of the hunt". I enjoy spending a day off shopping at Salvation Army and other local charity thirft shops. Much of my wardrobe comes from thrift shops. Frequently, coworkers comment, "I love your top (or whatever)...where did you get it?"

I like to buy used because it keeps money in my local economy, saves resources (just think of all that oil used to produce the product in China probably, possibly by a child, ship it on a boat to the US, truck it to the store), and is good for my pocket. I'm a stay at home Mom by choice and that means I have to watch where my money goes. No way I'm paying full price for something that I can get for a fraction of the cost.

I think we just need to look at our consumption a little closer and make simple changes that will help. :) I have found so many great deals on used items that are not dirty, smelly or damaged in any way. :goodvibes

I pushed aside some shirts and there it was...a Disney MONORAIL t-shirt, the one with the monorail announcement in spanish, good condition, in my size for .99 cents!! :goodvibes

Congrats on the great find!

Oooh, awesome find! I'm going to my local SA to look for goodies today!

Way to go! Congratulations!

Salvation Army is my favorite place. I've got lots of Disney sweatshirts from there. I told myself no more but i found one with the cutest Dalmatian puppy on it.

My best find was a Fort Wilderness hoodie. I didn't buy one when we were there a couple years ago because they were so much ($65.)

I love SA, too! I'm jealous of the FW hoodie find. ;)

It does not matter if you wash it, it is still unsanitary. Would you buy used underwear at gw bring it home and wear it after being washed?

Where did I say I would? I did not say that at all, I would not buy a used bathing suit or underwear for my personal use. However the person you called nasty did, and if you wash it in hot water and with bleach it is going to be clean. Calling someone nasty is rude and uncalled. Again, I'm sure that person washed it before wearing it.
Besides, people try on bathing suits at store prior to buying them, yes there is a tiny strip and they tell you to leave your underwear on while trying on bathing suits but do you know how many don't follow that rule? I do follow that rule but many do not and that's why I wash my new bathing suits (and yes underwear) in HOT water prior to wearing them.......
