DH and I were at WDW for marathon weekend (I did the half and he did the Goofy). We stayed at the Swan for the weekend and then moved over to OKW. BTW, the S/D was so beautiful as awesome as ever. Those beds are Heavenly and our room was very clean. It is a wonderful resort!
On Monday the 8th we moved over to OKW (took a taxi which was actually a towncar to the resort for $17.00+tip).
It was my first DVC trip (we bought in August) and the first time I laid eyes on OKW (except for photos--our home resort is BCV).
All I can say are wonderful things about this absolutely beautiful resort. I loved it. It, of course, has more of a community feel than a hotel/resort feel. I loved that. The style of the units and the colors, the water, the fountains, the sidewalks...OMG, I loved it.
The room we ended up in a studio on the 2nd floor (3620) in the Turtle Pond area. I really liked that area and liked the fact that it had its own pool, cs, laundry etc. I had requested at check in (which was about 11am for us) a second floor studio which the CM said would be no problem. However, at about 1:00 our room was ready and they took us in a van to our room and it was a first floor room. I think the room would have been great but I wanted a second floor room. The foliage was so grown up that we had a view of nothing. However, room 3620 is a second floor end room which really didn't have a good view and but at least I could see out! LOL
The only negative was we could hear the buses in that end room. DH said it sounded like firetrucks coming back into the station all night to him.
Bus service was excellent. I haven't been anywhere where it was any better.
Olivia's was very good. We had a waier named Luke one night who just really made us feel at home. DH had a lot of fun with the waitstaff about "applepie". They were all very friendly and funny. I liked the food and the atmosphere. It was very clean.
We had an appetizer which was there onion rings and the dipping sauces. Good, but average for an onion ring. but the dipping sauces made them a bit more than average.
DH had the primerib which he really liked and I had the sirloin salad and it was yummy. First, I thought it wouldn't fill me up but low and behold, I couldn't even finish it. Of course, I had no trouble finishing the cheesecake. DH had a keylime pie tart. It was all delicious and I felt good about the money for what we received.
We ate a late lunch there on Wednesday and he had the blackened grouper sandwich and I had the cuban sandwich. DH LOVED this sandwich and I ate 1/2 of mine but would not order it again. Nothing wrong with Olivia's Cuban sandwich--it just wasn't a taste I really liked (I think it was the mustard).
The condition of our room had me worried as I read all the room reports on this board and so I was worried about what I would find as we entered, LOL.
Our room was very clean and everything was in very good shape. The ar conditioner worked good and so did the heat (yes, we needed them both on this trip).
Our one bedspread had a hole in it (it was a big hole about 3" across!), there was pen marks on a dresser drawer where someone's child scribbled, and the blinds on the porch door had a broken clasp thingee at the bottom.
Those were the only things I saw. Everything else looked good and well taken care of. The kitchen and bathroom were very clean--this room was cleaner looking than most other WDW resort rooms I have been in lately!
I loved the hospitality house area. It was all I hoped for and dreamed of.
I had so many moments on this trip of seeing such beautiful scenes and buildings from the S/D and their sunsets to our visit over to BWV and BCV, and then over to OKW and seeing SSR going down to DTD. We ate at Ohana's and we were given the "best seat in the house" (so he said and it was mighty fine!) as I sat across from the Castle seeing the monorail right in front and the GF to the left. There were so many moments that I hope my eye and memory captured them and their beauty. I was in awe of the place I love to visit--WDW!!
I had no regrets of my DVC purchase. Not a single one. In fact, I am very much a sap, and I had several moments of tears of happiness trying to take in the beauty and the awe of being blessed to be staying at such beautiful resorts. I hope Disney always cares for their properties so much and I hope I never take for granted being able to stay there.
Sorry so long and sappy sounding. It was just a great trip. One I had much anxiety about (between my first race and my first trip home).
Thanks to all who helped me decide on purchasing DVC last year. I started asking questions last February and everyone was very honest and helpful.
