My first solo trip to Japan - Fantasy Springs Opening Day Trip Report (complete 6/10/25)

6/7: Tokyo Disney (DisneySea Day 2 Pt 14)

I left the Hilton around 8:30PM to head to Ikspiari one last time, I wanted to check out the Disney store! I didn't have much time as they were closing at 9PM. I caught some of the fireworks as I was walking to Bayside Station.

It was super easy to get to the station, it's so large you can't really miss it, and it was less than a 5 minute walk from the Hilton. The monorail goes super often.

I got a purple one this time! The train was basically empty as it left Bayside Station but then was very packed after we stopped at DisneySea.

IMG_7669.jpeg

I made it to Ikspiari and had just enough time to do a quick walk around the Disney Store. They really do kick you out a few minutes before closing, it feels like a supermarket challenge where you have to rush to get everything you want in a time limit

IMG_7670.jpeg

They were celebrating Donald there too!

IMG_7671.jpeg

I decided on the rain day Pooh that I saw at the Shibuya Disney Store and regretted not geting. I just got the small one as Disney Store merch was soooo expensive and I only had so much luggage space.

The Cashier saw the little Pooh plushie keychain I had on my bag and asked me if I liked Pooh, as I was purchasing another Pooh. You think? :rotfl:

IMG_7683.jpeg

I don't remember how much this cost but it was a lot, for such a small plush. Sooo cute though!

Gong Cha was open a bit later, maybe 9:30, so I popped in at 9PM and there was no wait! I paid 1420¥ or about $9USD for two large teas, I miss those prices right now.

IMG_7672.jpeg

Next I headed to Bon Voyage which was open until 10PM. By Maihama Station it was so chaotic! So many people!

IMG_7673.jpeg

It was so hot in Bon Voyage, after walking around a few minutes I was sweating! It had all the same stuff as the parks so you could totally skip this store if you went into the shops in the parks. I saw this cute Jungle Cruise tee and passed on it, sort of wish I bought it now.

IMG_7674.jpeg

I started getting headache and feeling so tired so I left without buying anything, a real miracle I know!

At Maihama Station I noticed a Hilton bus, so I followed the signage down some stairs and found all of the free Hotel shuttles. As I got there one pulled up for the Hilton! Great timing, and I made it back to the Hilton before 9:30.

IMG_7675.jpeg

There were two Lawsons in the lobby of the Hilton, I'm not sure what the difference was. They were very popular at that time of night but the lines were quick.

IMG_7677.jpeg

I bought some sort of microwavable soup and probably another onigiri if I had to guess.

IMG_7678.jpeg

This was just okay, nothing memorable. I was just glad to eat something at that point. My gong cha teas were delicious, I had so many this trip!

The front desk gave me a printout explaining how to book the Airport Limo which stops at the Hilton. You have to book it yourself via the airport limo website. It was super easy and only 1300¥ which is unbelievably cheap for how long of a drive it is. 100% recommend.

I must have putzed around for a while as I wasn't in bed until close to midnight. I had a bad headache and was so tired, I really wore myself out with the Disney days!

My bus the next morning was at 11:24AM so I set my alarm for 9, nice to sleep in after my early Disney mornings.

24.5k steps for this final Disney day.

6/8: Traveling Home (Pt 1)

I woke up just before 8, so much for sleeping in! I believe this was the only night in Japan where I wore ear plugs just in case since I could hear people going by my room. I slept well, the bed was still a bit firm but more normal feeling than the Disney beds if I remember right.

I left my room at 9:30 for breakfast, the elevator stopped at every single floor on the way down  There was no line for breakfast (probably because I was there so late), I believe I had this free for being a Gold Hilton members.

I was not super impressed with the food, there was a large selection but everything was very basic. I loved the smiley fries and the and corn croquettes!

There were lots of fruits, breads, and pastries. Plenty of fancy coffee machines and the french toast looked good though I don't think I had any. No hotel breakfast could compare to the Oyado Nono in Kyoto!

IMG_7686.jpeg

Funny enough, during breakfast, I got a text from T-mobile that I used up my 15GB international plan. I still had 5GB free on my regular plan, but the extra high speed plan I paid for ran out. So it ended up being the perfect amount! I'm pretty sure a majority was from my Disney days and using the Disney app, as I don't think I had used much data in the non-Disney part of my trip.

At 9:45AM a worker came by and gave a 10 minute warning for breakfast as it was closing at 10. The food was well stocked even though I was there late, thankfully.

I did the made to order omelette with mushroom, ham, cheese, and onion. This was delicious and the best part of the breakfast.

IMG_7687.jpeg

I ended up frantically packing as it always takes me more time than I expect. And because I wasted time getting this photo of my Disney haul! I bought less than I expected, if I had a third big suitcase and someone to wheel it I'm sure it would have looked very different

IMG_7689.jpeg

I usually like to put my most treasured items in my carry on, so my popcorn buckets and Duffy! I had to leave a little bit of room for any airport purchases. Everything else fit easily into my two check bags. The 70L Patagonia duffel I bought was clutch this whole trip!

Definitely try on your shirts when you buy them! The shirt on the right was a large and fit like a US medium. But the Peter Pan shirt was a M-L and fit like a US 3X (it was the only size left so I bought it without even trying on).

IMG_7760.jpeg

Thankfully the carpet was easy to roll luggage on as I had two check bags and a roller carry on. This is why I'm glad I put Disney at the end of my trip!

I got to the Hilton Airport Limo stop at 11:13 to give plenty of time for 11:24 bus. It was right by the Hotel entrance, and there was a guy checking names off a list and he grabbed my two check bags right away to tag them. You are allowed two bags in the storage below the bus, then whatever you can carry onto the bus itself. I had my roller carry on and large personal item bag and that was fine to bring onto the bus.

IMG_7691.jpeg

IMG_7694.jpeg

At this point I only had 190¥ left of my original 30,000¥, I probably would have been fine with 20,000¥. Of course, I did not stray from the beaten path at all, so credit cards were almost always an option

My thoughts on the Hilton were that it was very nice with lots of amenities and would probably be ideal for a longer stay, especially with the Lawsons. I'd still recommend staying on property for a shorter stay if you can, as those felt like being in the bubble and the Hilton did not. It was always pretty chaotic in the lobby with lots of screaming kids and I didn't experience that at all at the DLH or MiraCosta, which seemed to have mostly Japanese guests. I'd definitely return to the Hilton if it's a good bit cheaper than the Disney hotels.

IMG_7695.jpeg

The bus arrived five minutes late at 11:29, I thought the scheduled stops seemed very optimistic as they were only a few minutes between hotels. But they load people and luggage very efficiently!

The overhead storage is extremely shallow, not even my underseat bag would fit up there. Really just a small purse or backpack.

IMG_7696.jpeg

It was a tight fit, but there was just enough room for my carry on by my feet. Worst case you could keep it in your lap. The bus was not full at all, so I had an empty seat by me and could have put it there as well.

IMG_7698.jpeg

I think there were like 4-5 other families at the Hilton that got on, and the bus departed by 11:34.

We stopped at the Ambassador Hotel, DisneySea, and then Disneyland before stopping at the airport. The bus had great AC thankfully!

IMG_7699.jpeg

I did the math and I averaged 21k steps a day across 12 full days. No wonder I was tired! (My record is actually 25k steps averaged over 14 days for my Dopey to Dumbo trip but that included lots of running, so it doesn't really count.)

At 12:25 the bus left terminal 2 (first airport stop) and at 12:31 it left terminal 1. I was terminal 3 which I think is most of the international flights? Someone on the bus scanned our QR code tickets while we were unloading.

We arrived at terminal 3 at 12:40, so just over an hour from the Hilton. The original schedule said 11:24-12:35 for my route, so that was pretty close!

I dropped off my check bags just after 1PM, and went to check out some of the shopping before security. I didn't think it was all that interesting but maybe I didn't really know where to look. I headed to security just before 1:30 and got the notification my bags were already on board my plane!

The security lines didn't look bad and I was done in under 20 minutes.

Then there was customs, but you go through pretty quickly. They checked my passport and I don't think even glanced at the receipts or anything.

I did a bit of duty free shopping of course, and got the classic Royce chocolates and Tokyo banana. I finished shopping around 2PM and headed to the Delta lounge which I have heard many great things about!

Hi all! I love writing trip reports and took lots of notes on my recent two-week solo trip to Japan! I know this is a Tokyo Disney forum but I hope that the non-Disney parts of my trip are also interesting/helpful to those planning similar trips.

This trip was a bit "last minute" in that I did not start planning until mid February, so just over three months in advance. I am big on using credit card points/benefits so I will talk about that as well. I am a WDW annual passholder as well as a Disneyland magic key holder, and Tokyo Disney has always been a dream trip. After many years of dreaming, I finally decided to make it happen this year.

This was my first trip overseas and certainly my first big solo trip (have only done solo trips to US parks before) and overall it was a fabulous trip. I'm a big foodie and love to shop, and I'm also one to splurge a bit on hotels, so I'll be writing a lot about my experiences trying out eight different hotels across two weeks.

Kyoto Hotels:
  • Hyatt Place Kyoto (1 night)
  • Onyado Nono Kyoto Shichijo (2 nights)
  • Park Hyatt Kyoto (2 nights)

Tokyo Hotels:
  • Hyatt House Tokyo Shibuya (3 nights)
  • The Okura Tokyo (1 night)
  • Tokyo Disneyland Hotel (1 night)
  • Tokyo DisneySea Hotel MiraCosta (2 nights)
  • Hilton Tokyo Bay (1 night)

Table of Contents:
Please feel free to ask questions at any time, I learned so much during this trip (and still have a lot more to learn) and am already looking forward to planning my next trip to Japan
Do you mind if I ask you how Hyatt place Kyoto is? I booked the Hyatt place shibuya so I’m excited by your review. I got the suite for 4ppl. But we need a hotel in Kyoto so booked Hyatt place Kyoto. Do you recommend?!? Our trip is in July/august.

I thought it was great! Literally on the Marutamachi station which made it convenient to get to places such as Arashiyama, Fushimi Inari, and Nishiki Market. It's not as convenient for Higashiyama/Gion but taxis are very cheap in Kyoto. The area isn't that exciting but you'll be so busy during the day it won't matter. Very easy to find, easy to call a taxi there as well as road isn't too busy.

Thank you!

I’ll also book Hilton Tokyo bay in case I can’t get the rooms on property. They are soooo $$$ for a party if 4.

The Kyoto Hyatt place is only 6500 pts ($190/nt) which is quite reasonable on the point and cash side. Still trying to decide whether to book via points or cash.

The Hyatt place shibuya was 21,000 pts of $900 cash. No brainer there.

Osaka is another story. No available Hyatt rooms 😞. The world fair is happening in Osaka while we are there.

With respect to Disney, Tokyo…. How hard was it for you to book an on property room, And was it worth the additional price? It seems to be coming out at between $600-$1000 a night room only, or $1600-3500 for the vacation package per night (party of 4). I have to pay for a college counselor this year since my son is in ninth grader at a private school… Costs are kind of ballooning for me right now, so looking to save where I can.

6/5: Tokyo Disney (Disneyland VP Day Pt 1)

I am a broken record, my apologies for being so slow on this TR! I had 272 photos from just this day to sort through and resize, I'll blame that for taking so long. So let's get back to the TR so I can stop thinking about work for a little bit

I woke up at 7:30AM, paid my bill via the TV and also did the baggage transfer from the QR code on the TV. My card didn't work at first so you have to generate a new QR code if you need to try a different card, you can do that by going back a screen on the TV or turning it off and back on. Nice to skip the front desk.

In the form you fill out online for the baggage transfer, it will ask you the pickup time. It means when you want them to pick up your bags from your room, not the time you want your bags. Bell services called my room almost immediately after I submitted my form since I put an evening pickup time, the person who called spoke perfect English and confirmed I wanted my bags transferred immediately to my next hotel (Mira Costa) from the DLH. I'm guessing this happens a lot!

I left my room around 8:15 and was in the happy entry line for DL by 8:20. It was SO sunny! I was very glad I had my UV umbrella as did many others. I was so happy I picked up my package the night before so I could just walk right into line from the DLH!

View attachment 895372

The park opened for happy entry at 8:45, or 15 minutes before regular opening. Being 25 minutes early, I estimate I was maybe 2/3 back in line. I couldn't really see the regular lines to know how many people were there already, but I admired the dedication of everyone waiting so long with how hot the sun was!

They started scanning everyone in at 8:45 on the dot, they take your happy entry receipt before you even scan in.

View attachment 895373

People in Japan are READY to scan their tickets, there is no hold up like in the US parks. I couldn't believe how quick it was. No ID verification or finger prints or anything helps of course, since tickets are on an honor system I imagine (unless there is some hidden facial recognition :rotfl:)

I was in by 8:48, and immediately booked a free Pooh priority pass for 9:10, the first slot available for me. I then paid for a pass for Splash at 12:00. Since I did the Electrical Parade the night before, I didn't have to worry about booking that.

With my package, I had three pre-booked attraction tickets. I did Space Mountain (3 hour time slot) and two BATB (1 hour time slot). Happy Ride with Baymax was closed during my trip or I probably would have booked that. This alleviated a lot of booking stress for me!

Now, for the free priority passes, you can book another after either two hours or after the time starts for your next pass, whichever is earlier. So I was eligible to book again at 9:10 even if I hadn't ridden Hunny Hunt yet (had until 10:10). So you definitely want to book something with an early return time so that you can book a second priority pass quickly. This is where happy entry really gives you an advantage, as it's unlikely anyone without happy entry would get such an early time for their first priority pass.

My internet (paid for T-mobile international pass) was a bit slow but usable while waiting for happy entry, but once I scanned into the parks it worked well. I do recommend having your paper ticket or a screenshot of your ticket in case you can't get internet on the way in.

Since I had two tickets for BATB I decided to do Space Mountain first. Not many people were choosing this to rope drop! While walking through the line I did an entry request to meet Mickey at 10:10. I think it's a lottery similar to the shows, so I was happy to be successful!

View attachment 895374

I was on Space Mountain by 8:58. Omg, it felt so intense! Maybe the track just felt less predictable but it was great, and I think I am getting old because I felt no need to ride it back to back, though I did really enjoy it :rotfl2:

After I got off I could tell the regular guests had been let in as there was a rush of people going by to BATB. It was only listed as a 50 minute wait at that time. There were definitely people running lol.

View attachment 895375

I didn't get anything from the vending machines in DL but they were adorable. I haven't seen Big Hero 6 yet!

View attachment 895377

Pooh was only 8 minutes just after regular opening, so I opted to get in the standby line so I could ride at least twice!

While in line, I became eligible to make another priority pass booking at 9:10 and was able to snag Monsters Inc for 9:45. Score!

I only waited a couple minutes for Hunny Hunt and got front row, hooray! I had been avoiding watching ride throughs so I didn't really know what to expect other than the ride being trackless.

View attachment 895379

I absolutely loved this, it's one of my favorite rides in WDW but it was so much better in Tokyo. It's hard to capture how much more immersive it felt in a picture/video, the sets were so dynamic and everything felt more real!

View attachment 895380

The bouncing with Tigger scene was adorable.

View attachment 895381

The Heffalumps room was so long, lots of fun new things and then a tunnel at the end.

View attachment 895382

Overall this absolutely lived up to my expectations and the queue itself was very detailed as well. Lots of props and spots to take photos.

View attachment 895383

I was off Hunny Hunt by 9:17, and the line was SO long. It said 30 minutes and it was crazy how much it built up just in 10 or so minutes. Happy entry really is key! Space Mountain was up to 60 minutes.

So thanks to happy entry, I booked two priority passes in the first hour of park opening, as well as almost walking on Hunny Hunt and Space Mountain. 15 minutes doesn't sound like much but it really makes a difference.
Hello! i just came across your post and have been reading all day. loved all details. so basically you get free ride reservations for certain rides and the others you pay for correct?
:54 and started scanning people in at 5:00 sharp. T

I enjoyed reading your trip report, very detailed and helpful. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much for following along! I can't believe it will have been a year pretty soon, doesn't feel that long ago!

@Jodo98

Thank you for following along! Yes, some of the passes are free (priority passes) while some are paid (premier access). The Tokyo Disney website is pretty good at showing the difference but it definitely takes a bit of research ahead of time if you want to be most efficient at booking! They do seem to change things often but their website always is updated with the latest info.

Do you think the amount you did was enough to satiate going for a while? I haven't been since 2023 and probably won't go until the new Adventureland and Port Discovery rehaul are completed.

I definitely want to go back, but the travel is so long that I will probably wait another year or two. Not sure I’ll make it waiting until the new projects are done though 🤣 If I had unlimited PTO I would have liked to do 2 days DL, and 3 days DS. I saw nowhere near everything and barely had any food there! I can’t believe people do it in 1-2 days, I get that there is so much else to do in Japan, but that would have been such a tease!

6/8: Traveling Home (Pt 2)

Better late than never, eh? Time to wrap this report up over a year later :hyper: Be warned, I had a really horrible flight experience, which I think is why it took me so long to finish these last posts :faint:

It's been so long I got a new computer and had to go digging around in my folders to find where I saved the photos for this TR :rotfl2:

The Delta lounge was pretty small, but it was not crowded. The food was AMAZING!

They had a noodle bar where you could pick your broth, noodles, and toppings. I had ramen and it was fantastic, and I say this as someone who has like 20 types of ramen at my house right now :hyper:

IMG_7703.jpeg

All of the finger foods were delicious and so fresh, there was a delicious croque monsieur croissant and this matcha jelly that was to die for, and I'm only so-so in terms of matcha flavored things. I think the MSP and LAX Delta sky clubs are great but this was next level! Definitely worth getting to the airport early enough to spend an hour in the lounge if you can.

IMG_7704.jpeg

The kiwi was really bad and underripe, the only criticism I had

Delta staff came through with an iPad showing that certain flights were boarding, which was nice.

I left the lounge at 2:45 and the escalator was broken, so I had to wait forever for an elevator. I still had some time to waste, so I realized I should use up my yen and suica.

I bought another tuna mayo onigiri (which I didn't end up eating, more on that later) for 140¥ using suica.

IMG_7705.jpeg

Bottled water was only 130¥ and I was able to use most of my coins on that. So nice not paying crazy airport prices!

I still had a bit left on my suica so I got a few more bottled drinks. I didn't end up drinking these either...

IMG_7706.jpeg

These were also 140¥, so cheap!

IMG_7707.jpeg

I looked and I still have 888¥ on my suica, ha! So plan better than I did to use it up before you leave!

I made it to my gate at 3PM for a 4:05 departure, it was so weird because I had to go down an escalator that only went to my gate. HND is a really big airport but it was easy enough to navigate thanks to all the signage.

There was a huge Japanese student group on my flight (to Minneapolis) all wearing uniforms, which I thought was interesting!

Boarding started around 3:15 and I boarded by 3:35, it was definitely a bit slow but also a huge plane I suppose.

It was fun seeing all of the themed planes, we don't get that in Minneapolis!

IMG_7710.jpeg

Our plane started taxiing at 4:05 but we waited for takeoff quite a while, taking off around 4:40. We were scheduled to land in Minneapolis at 2PM the same day so I thought it was fun to go "back in time" going home. I think it was about 11 hours in the air, a little shorter than the flight to Tokyo which was over 12 hours. I was expecting to be very tired, as we were landing around 4AM Tokyo time!

It was a clear day, so I was hoping I'd get a glimpse of Mt Fuji, which I am pretty sure eluded me on this trip. I did not see Mt Fuji, so til next time!

I tried my apple tea soda candies from Disney which were delicious and tasted just like the drink. Great souvenir!

We were served dinner around 5:50PM. The meal in economy was similar to the flight to Tokyo, I chose the pasta option which was lasagna. It had spinach or some green and I usually like that, but I wished it had been just cheese. Overall not a bad meal, but definitely pack snacks if you are a big eater.

IMG_7717.jpeg

We did not have wifi on this flight, bummer!

Unfortunately, the rest of the flight was a series of unfortunate events. I'd skip the next section if you have a sensitive stomach, you can start again at the picture of the night sky through my window!

Here's the spoiler:

IMG_7746.jpeg

This trip was my first time overseas (other than when I was a baby) so I was a little nervous of course. Now, this was a year ago, so none of the craziness that's happened in the past 6 months had happened yet, but I think I would be MORE nervous to fly now after this experience.

With no warning from the pilot, we started experiencing turbulence around 6:30PM. So only 40 minutes after dinner.

At first I was like ugh, great, but it kept going and getting considerably worse than anything I'd ever experienced. We started dropping a lot, like a few times a minute, to the point where it was like biggest hill on a rollercoaster where you are flying up into your seatbelt and getting significant air time. Stomach dropping! One guy in front of me actually put his hands up like he was on a ride, I wish I had that attitude :bitelip:

It went on for SO long. You could just feel the tension in the cabin, at first it was dead silent, then people stated getting truly scared. It started with quiet little shrieks, but after about 10 minutes of this people were full on screaming and audibly panicking. About 15-20 minutes in, unfortunately people started getting sick

Those little barf bags are NOT enough for serious turbulence, I had a freezer bag in my purse that I handed to the girl behind me, it was that bad. The woman next to me, the people behind me, and in front of me all got sick. If I had to guess, probably over half the plane got sick. Please tell me that is not normal or I may never fly overseas again :rotfl:

I'm a pretty rational person and I never once felt we were in real danger, but that didn't stop me from feeling absolutely terrible and praying for it to end! People were screaming about having heart attacks and panic attacks and yeah, overall a mess. Probably for the best that we didn't have any internet...

I definitely felt queasy but I made it through, let's just say I was SO glad I was wearing a mask. The pilot never came through on the intercom during all of this, I presume he had to remain focused or something.

Two men actually got up out of their seats, presumably to go to the bathroom, and the flight attendants were screaming at them to sit back down.

Finally, it started getting better around 7:00, so it was about 30 minutes of absolute calamity.

Then, shortly after the turbulence ended, there was a medical emergency two rows up. They asked for a doctor and had oxygen tanks and everything. I think they ended up fine, but sheesh!

Two hours later, the flight attendants finally came around with water and trash bags. Can you imagine holding onto your barf bag for over two hours? :rotfl2:

Anyways, here's really pretty picture I took out of my plane window when I finally calmed down, LOL!

IMG_7742.jpeg

I imagine overnight flights are usually quite peaceful, not this one though! So I had like 9 hours of the flight left and I didn't sleep, watch any TV, or read. I think I just sat there disassociating and occasionally deleting photos from my phone, though I didn't get very far (and STILL need to do this) :bitelip:

I chatted quite a bit with the woman next to me, and she travels a lot including overseas for work. She said she'd never experienced turbulence remotely that bad, so I did feel a bit better after hearing that.

To top this all off, I got skipped at breakfast

The woman next to me had a special meal (allergy?) so they served hers before the rest of the cabin. I think when they got to me, they saw she had a meal (it was a two-person row) and assumed our row had already been served and I had not wanted anything. I didn't even realize what was happening and then all the sudden I was left breakfast-less. Yes, I know I should have said something, but by the time I realized nothing was coming for me it was basically time to prepare for landing. Just was not my day!

Before we landed, the pilot did apologize, and said it was hard to predict turbulence not associated with thunderstorms. He said other aircraft nearby hadn't experienced it either, so we had no warning. He did say we were never in any danger, I was like, would have been nice to hear that nine hours earlier when everyone was screaming and crying :hyper:

We did have a bit of a bumpy landing and everyone was gripping their armrests LOL!

We finally landed at 3:30AM Tokyo time, or 1:30PM local time, and no one clapped :rotfl2:

So happy to see the ground, ha!!!

IMG_7747.jpeg

At this point I was thanking my past self for spending the $$ to book a direct flight. No way could I have put myself on another flight right after that experience.

The global entry line was really not a line at all, we just walked through and the agents very scarily welcomed us by name back into the US thanks to facial recognition. No checking passports, customs, anything. So worth the extra $ over TSA precheck!

I was through by 1:50PM and had my bags about 15 minutes after that, very efficient.

And that's it folks, that's the rest of my notes on this trip! I'll post a few more pictures of my souvenirs after this. Thanks so much for following along, liking, commenting, I am glad I documented this trip so I can look back on it when I am planning the next one! I hope it's been a fun read and I know Tokyo Disney has probably already changed so that nothing I said is useful or relevant anymore :rotfl2:

Here are the airport treats I got after security! Make sure to leave room in your luggage!

Tokyo banana, of course.

IMG_7745.jpeg

The packaging is so cute!

IMG_7746.jpeg

These were good, they do taste like real banana and not fake banana (which I hate). Not very sweet at all, these are nice with coffee. Not sure I'd get them again, but fun to try. If you like banana cream pie, these would be up your alley.

IMG_7747.jpeg

The Royce chocolate potato chips were delicious! The bag is pretty small, but they are very indulgent. A great balance of salty and sweet, I'd get these again! I'm sure you can get chocolate potato chips in the US, but the chocolate on these was really excellent.

IMG_7750.jpeg

IMG_7752.jpeg

I got four types of Royce chocolate. Matcha, mild milk liquor free, au lait, and white peach.

IMG_7753.jpeg

I had no idea what to expect, you do have to keep this chocolate refrigerated. It lasts a few weeks once opened. It's like a super creamy and dense fudge, very rich! I liked the au lait the best, it was like a mix of milk and dark chocolate!

The matcha and white peach were good but I do prefer the traditional chocolate flavor.

Excuse the ugly photo, I promise the chocolate was not bad and the powder coating just got shaken up in transport! :hyper:

The beautiful cat cookies I got in Kyoto that I wish I got more of, they were so delicious and melt in your mouth!

Look at how much it resembles my girl Fugue, who I recently adopted (after fostering for more than 2 years)!

And her late sister Toccata who I miss dearly:

I think this was the gift in the hotel room at the Hilton Tokyo? They were nuts that were all crispy and puffy like they were fried. Delicious!

My favorite hotel gift was the leaf cookies from the Okura Tokyo. They are like eating pie crust, I could eat these forever! So beautifully packaged too.

And last but not least, not a Japan find, but I have been seeing Pocari Sweat at the Asian markets I go to and it makes me think of Japan (even though I never actually tried it :hyper: ). It's much more expensive in the US though, of course!

I recently found Coolish at my Asian market, it was highway robbery at $10 for a 4-pack, but you know I bought it and it tastes exactly like the Coolish from Japan! I bought the vanilla but that also had chocolate and slushy lemon. Hopefully those little sorbet grapes make it to the US too...

And that's a wrap!!!

Sorry this took me so long to finish!

So wild because we had the same experience flying into Haneda from EWR (Nov 2024). About 30-45 minutes of big drops and jumps. The person next to me said he flew to Japan every other month for work and never experienced a flight like ours. From Narita back home to EWR? Smooth all the way! Not a single bump. So bizarre to have such different experiences.

Oh no, so neither direction is safe :rotfl2: My flight in was so smooth, I suppose it's luck of the draw! Hopefully that was our one and only bad experience!

This trip report is beyond amazing!! I'm in awe. I'm taking my first trip (my husband and daughter have been there before) to TDR this November and this has been SO WONDERFUL to read. Thank you!!!!
P.S. I am nervous about the whole turbulence experience happening twice though.... I hope it's not a "Delta" thing (which we're taking).
