:furious: and :sad1: are all I could think when I walked up to find my king cake on the floor and 3/4 gone and if that didn't make things worse I keep finding the missing peices stashed around the house in favorite places. She's not even a year old yet and we have never had any trouble w/ her getting things off of or jumping up on the counters. I just got it yesterday and have only cute one slice out it wrapped back up and left it on the stove. It wouldn't have bothered me much had it been a store bought king cake but nooo I had my MIL pick it up for me from a bakery in NO just b/c she was down there for working. Oh the pain dd is going to be so upset b/c the whole ride to school she was trying to decide which color she wanted and she hopes she gets the baby.:sad2:

I am sorry that your dog ate it, but what is a king cake? I have never heard of that before.

My friend has a bag full of McDonalds on the counter at her house and her lab ate everything inside if it, except the wrappers. She was mad about it at first but them we laughed because he was smart enough to leave the wrappers. :rotfl2:

i'm sorry about your cake. I love king cake too (i went to school in Mobile). Dogs... what can you do? but atleast they make us smile and always love us. :)

That sucks! I'm hoping an old college friend will ship one up from NO to me this year like he's done in the past. I love them! I'm just so sorry. I know how you feel as I have 2 dogs (beagles) myself and the little one now all of a sudden likes to jump on our kitchen table. Grrrr.... Are you planning to buy another one for your DD? I know it won't be the same but at least she still gets a piece in hopes of finding the baby.

Here's a quick history ofthe king cake for those who want to know.

But did he eat the baby? That could be problematic if it's a small dog; sometimes the little feet are kind of sharp. Also, that's mostly an unrisen yeast dough; it might give a dog a horrendous case of gas.

I've had luck in the midwest by asking a bakery to make me some special-order smalll cinnamon rolls, but NOT to cut the dough; just ask them to pull the roll around into a loop, bake it that way and sell it to me at whatever price that many individual rolls would have cost. Then I take it home and decorate it myself; sugar glaze and dyed sugar are easy, after all, and you can slip the baby in from the bottom.

My favorite baker for King Cake is Gambino's. Their praline filled is just the best, followed closely by the lemon.

Funny story: Once when I was working at the Univ. of Kansas I brought an actual homemade King Cake into the office and explained how the parties work. The guy who got the baby was someone who cooked, but he just wasn't into making brioche. The next week we came in to find a homemade cheesecake with the name Elvis written on it. :lmao:

I don't really car that much for the cinnamon kind actually my favorite was the mckenzie plain king cake. the bakery here makes them similar but they pile on sooooooooo much sugar that it takes for ever to rake it all off and they are all filled. I am going to take her after school to pick out one. Surprisingly she didn't get the baby it was in w/ her stash but she's not a small dog she is a rescued pit bull its funny b/c she knew what she did wrong b/c as soon and I yelled her name Lola she went and got in her kennel she's been there ever since.

That dog should be shot -- esp if it was a filled King Cake!!!! I grew up in Baton Rouge, and haven't had a decent King Cake in a decade. LOL!!!

You know, I should probably add that I'm joking about shooting the dog. I mean I would hope most people know I'm joking, but just want to clarify. I'm just kidding. I love dogs.

Does anybody know if those things will freeze, and thaw okay? We have two Fresh Market stores close, and they make THE best King Cakes. We are all on sugar high right now, because we know the last cake is out there. But if I could throw a couple in the freezer for later, we could maybe get back into some of our clothes before next Mardi Gras.

Your poor daughter.
My dog is like that. I left things out since he never ate them and then he turns 5 and eats everything. I bought a bag of appled and left them right next to the fridge only to wake and find the entire bag empty he ate it all core and everything.:lmao:

That stinks your dog ate your king cake. Now you have me drooling for one! It's been years since I had one. Does anyone ship them?

Cool cake, very pagan to hide a trinket in it!

I knew I shouldn't have read this post! I bought a king cake last week, ate a couple of pieces and told myself that was enough for this season. I have to go grocery shopping tomorrow and all I can think about now is getting another king cake! I can feel the sugar crunching in my teeth now.....:cloud9:

:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: whaaaat:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: take off:confused3 the sugar

I know I know you should try the king cakes from pauls pastry if you haven't already. They put more sugar on their king cakes than most places put icing and sugar on one. its just to much but their blueberry creamcheese filled is sooooooooooo gooooooooooooooood. The first time I had their blueberry creamcheese filled I was there ordering my wedding cake for 9yrs ago today and I had them doing the filling in my wedding cake w/ the blueberry filling. I think I may have to order one b/c now am wanting one of those too.lol.

Sorry your dog ate it, once my dog jumped up and ate a HUGE section of the lasagne we had resting, not a pretty sight, but BOY did we laugh later (we had plenty of other food, but really missed the pasta:rotfl2: )
Dogs, gotta love em!!

I am so very sorry. You know you can order them on line don't you?? My friend ordered one for us one year and it got delayed by weather but still ended up being really good. The next year we ordered it for my son's birthday. http://www.kingcake.com/Index.aspx
