No Santa and the Easter Bunny are not Christian at all and have no place in the Christian holidays of Christmas and Easter. They are both marketing tools of the secular world.

Joseph and his Technicolor Dream Coat is not a Christian play. It come from the Old Testament not the New.

Yes, I know that Joesph is from the "old testament". The musicals I mentioned were religious in nature. I wasn't pointing out that they were Chrisitan or Jewish. I was pointing out that they all contained religious material and were performed in public schools.

I have a feeling (hope) that we are not so far apart in this discussion, but we are misunderstanding each other. Are you willing to say that Jesus has the same impact for Jews as Mohammed, for example, has for Christians? Because in a way that people just don't think about much that it's true, historically speaking, as you say. Because like it or not :) we are all connected in that way. We all have Father Abraham. I'm not sure that Jews realize how much we study what we call "the old testament" and how big a part of our religion is can be. (although as a catholic I'm more focused on the Gospels).

I'm not sure that you are intending to recruit for Jews for Jesus with your statements, are you? You are just reminding us of our connection. Am I right (wrong? close? :confused3 )

That's why, I hope we can come to the day that mere artistic expressions of a person's religion will stop being so shocking and offensive to each other. We do all have a connection, after all.

You are exactly right in your assessment of what I am saying :) I'm glad someone gets it. I am definately not recruiting, just reminding of the connection between religions (I used the word impact and I like how you used different words).

Most of us were staying very civil with our conversations. Now, this has turned into bashing and accusations. If you are not open-minded, you shouldn't be participating just to use volitile and hateful words. Please use courtesy :goodvibes

I have read through the posts, & all I can say is that it's extremely sad. If we feel this animosity for others, what are we teaching our kids? Things will never get better as long as we're passing down our prejudices. IMHO, teaching our kids that we don't believe something & thinking it's perfectly fine for them to tell their friends they're wrong too, isn't acceptable in any faith.

I seriously doubt any of our ancestors were raised in a perfect world. People of all colors & faiths should be happy that we no longer are forced to live in this type of situation. Instead many of them feel the need to open old wounds. :confused3 Noone benefits from this.

For bicker's benefit ;) , I don't know nor can I speak for all Christians, but I can honestly say that I don't know any who hate Jews. I am saddened to see that so many Jews apparently do hate us. For those Christians out there who apparently do hate Jews, I feel sorry for you just as I do the offending Jews. I don't care what your religion is, if you have hate in your heart, it is all for naught.

Man has this thread gone downhillw from being PC correct to what religion hates another religion. Im not a practicing anything at the moment. I think the teacher is off base. The song chosen is not only gospel which is a whole musical movement but one that is heard in the general public. It was not just a church song. If we banned any religious music in schools what do we lose? Gospel including the slave songs of the 19th century (tell that to an Afican american school), many folk songs, many civil war songs (ex battle hym of the republic), classical pieces (Hayndels Messiah, Shuberts Avia Maria), music from plays (such as Purlie, Two by Two), some popular music of the past (Stair way to heaven, Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition). If the music teacher picked a gospel song for the show it should be sung as written, not censored.

We had a similiar instance. Last year my DD 5th grade teacher had a Chankkah party, telling the class the history of it, having some foods(which the class mother made) and playing the dreidal game.

Yet, the next day the class had a "winter party", with ABSOLUTElY no mention of Christmas, santa, etc. They made blue and white smowman.

I thought the class mother(my friend) was going to burst :furious:

Sadly this has been going on for years. Back when I was in 6th grade we learned all about Hannukah. And we even had a Kwanza assembly! I still remembering, "Ku-ji-ja-ku-lia mean self-determination." We had to get up on stage and recite all the words.

When it came to Christmas we made paper snowflakes. We'll the kids in the class protested and signed a petition and gave it to the teacher demanding they give equal time to each holiday. The teacher gave it an read the story of Christmas, albeit a watered-down storybook version.

Thanks for that, but I'm not Jewish.

I agree, this thread has gone downhill since the Christianity vs. Judaism stuff started...

"For bicker's benefit , I don't know nor can I speak for all Christians" was for bicker's benefit. Read back a few posts & you'll get it. :teeth:

What do you call Chritmas Songs. If the were ehat is done in our schools I would say they are not. Rudolph and Santa is Coming to Town, etc are not Christmas songs. They are secular songs about make believe characters used by the secular media to encourage the sale of merchandise to fill the coffers of business. Now if they are using things like Silent Night and Emmanuel then I agree these are Christian music.
I'm trying to remember, and as someone who was raised Christian,I know the difference between secular and religious Christmas sons... One of the songs was O come O ye Faithful, and I honestly can'y remember the second on for sure, but I think it was away in a manger

This thread needs to come with a dictionary. You click a word and it tells you the meaning! Way too many big words. I've seen the word "veneration" more times on this thread than in my entire life! LOL!

Sorry....

zeal = enthusiastic devotion to an ideal

I don't know any Jews that hate Christians.. I know that sometimes Jews can be wary of other religions. You may not think prejudice and hatred of Jews is still out there, but it is..I think if you study Jewish history you can see why Jews are wary..
My ex husband hates Jews and loves to throw anti-semitic remarks my way..My sons was called *Jewboy* and had things thrown at him once, while wearing a Kippah.
I'm not quite sure where you saw Christian hatred on this thread..I saw people saying that Jesus has no place in Judaism, but that does not not show hatred for Christians

I understand what you're saying, but reading history on any subject doesn't mean that it applies today. We are supposed to read history in order to learn from it. Our opinions of others should be based on how those we come in contact with treat us.

If your ex hated Jews & spewed anti-semitic remarks it had nothing to do with him being a Christian. I bet he hated other racers too. There's Christians in all races. Many of them worship together with nothing but love for each other. Saying you were raised in Christian faith, & actually being a Christian is two different things. This sounds to me like nothing but prejudice & hatred for mankind. I'm sorry you or anyone else would have to live in that type of environment.

Many of the posts on the last few pages have been very anti-Christian. I haven't seen the reverse on this thread, other than the one poster & his one liners that are easy to ignore.
