momof2inPA said:Do you think the Jews have cornered the market on persecution? Have they been persecuted more than Christians in early Roman pre-Constantine days? Can't Christians also lay claim to the BC persecutions, since Jesus was a Jew? Do you think if we sing Old Testament songs in public schools and not New Testament songs, that will somehow even the score?
What's past is past, and I don't see where the Christians who are alive now are in any way responsible for the Reformation or the Holocaust. They are what they are, but they aren't occurring in the U.S. today. Now, the holocaust of Africans at the hands of other Africans, that could be considered present day persecution. I don't know any Jewish person who would exchange the persecution they face today in the U.S.A. for the persecution a Hutu suffered in Rwanda at the hands of a Tutsi (or Tutsi at hand of Hutu).
No, Jews have't cornered the market on persecution. But since Jews have exsisted for 5766 years and Christians have been around for 2006 years, you do the math. I think that tops most other "groups" of people. Now, does that mean that other groups being persecuted doesn't count. Absolutely not. If human beings were smarter, maybe they would have learned that hate and war because people are different is really stupid, and does not fix things. Again, I shall state I have nothing against Christians, I don't blame the Christian people for anything. I don't blame Germans for the Holocaust. My ex-dh was Christian and German, and his maternal family were Nazi's.
As far as the songs go, I already stated in antoher post that the school should include all the songs, or take them all out. The schools can't have it both ways. I see nothing wrong with the Gospel song, since they are singing "Jewish" songs.
And what kind of score evening out are your talking about?
No what is past is not past. If human beings can learn from the stupid hatred of the past then current holocaust's would not occur. We have people killing people today becuase of religious and cultural differences. Human beings haven't learned anything from their past mistakes. But forgetting the past would be so stupid. And there should be no persecution today in the USA, or anywhere, and there is. And hatred and stupidity is what fuels it. In the year 2006 there should NOT BE ANY anti-semitism, racism, or another other sort of hate the other guy in this country. But there is.
As I stated in post 215, I think it is all wrong. Why are you trying to twist what I said to make it seem like I feel that only Jewish persecution is what I care about. If that is what you think, then you should take a remedial reading comprehension class.
Bottom line is we are intelligent human beings, and we have to learn to stop hating. I would love for my children to grow up and not watch the news and see a war. I would love them not to have to worry about an enemy country dropping a bomb. And I would love for them not to have to worry that another building 45 miles from their home, is not going to be destroyed by stupid hateful people. But the only way that is going to happen is if everyone person in the world thought that way. But they don't.

---but I hope you are not believing that real Christians fall into this category.
