I have read through the posts, & all I can say is that it's extremely sad. If we feel this animosity for others, what are we teaching our kids? Things will never get better as long as we're passing down our prejudices. IMHO, teaching our kids that we don't believe something & thinking it's perfectly fine for them to tell their friends they're wrong too, isn't acceptable in any faith.

I seriously doubt any of our ancestors were raised in a perfect world. People of all colors & faiths should be happy that we no longer are forced to live in this type of situation. Instead many of them feel the need to open old wounds. :confused3 Noone benefits from this.

For bicker's benefit ;) , I don't know nor can I speak for all Christians, but I can honestly say that I don't know any who hate Jews. I am saddened to see that so many Jews apparently do hate us. For those Christians out there who apparently do hate Jews, I feel sorry for you just as I do the offending Jews. I don't care what your religion is, if you have hate in your heart, it is all for naught.

Am I missing something?? I haven't read anywhere, unless I missed it. And if I did so, please point me to the post. Where are the posts from the Jews that hate Christians??

Ok, I am confused. Are you saying that I am a Jew that apparently hates Christians? Or that I have hate in my heart? If so, please point out which of my posts said this. Can you please clairfy (spelling??) what you mean.

I'm trying to remember, and as someone who was raised Christian,I know the difference between secular and religious Christmas sons... One of the songs was O come O ye Faithful, and I honestly can'y remember the second on for sure, but I think it was away in a manger
Around here people try to claim that Rudolph and Santa are Christmas songs and represent Christmas for the Christian religions. We get a music teacher willing to us true Christmas carols and hymns except in Christian schools. Irritated me to no end. So many of the masters of music wrote religious music of various sorts and the kids aren't allowed to play them in school.

I would call rudolph and santa claus Christimas icons, but not religious icons.

Actually JoiseyMom, it's some of your posts that are quite nasty. Hopefully, you didn't mean them to sound that way. Constantly bringing up way Jews were persecuted by Christians, etc., seems to say a lot about what you're thinking. If not, I apologize for reading that into your post. Things like saying the "old testament" is your bible, being so insistent about Santa & the Easter Bunny, & the problem you have with them. I don't remember anyone voicing a problem with your religious or otherwise practices. I think we could all benefit from practicing a bit more tolerance.

I won't get into an argument with you, because when that happens noone wins. It's not something I want to have to answer for.

I agree, these songs are about the commercialized Christmas to sell toys. They have nothing to do with the reason Christians celebrate Christmas. Personally, we have room for both. I can teach my son the story of Christmas, & we can get all the goodies too. :teeth: I don't feel we're being unfaithful to one, by practicing the other. He hasn't confused them from the time he was old enough to understand Christmas, why do so many others?

Check out this interesting poll and maybe you'll begin to see why some people think it is shameful:

Americans, especially Catholics, approve of torture

Percent saying using "torture against suspected terrorists in order to gain important information" is often or sometimes justified:

Catholics: 56%
White Protestants: 49%
White Evangelicals: 49%
Total Public: 46%
Secular: 35%

I'm going to suggest that the results of that poll are more about supporting Pro-Life political candidates and their issues at all costs than it has to do with people of different religions actually supporting torture.

I understand what you are saying, but I disagree. I think there is a sadistic streak in Christianity that goes beyond support for this or that politician.

Yes it's true, there are some Christians that hate Jews. I don't know any personally, but I read the news.

Now I see the feeling is mutual. Why don't you just start a new thread "Why Christians Suck", since that's really what alot of you want to get out of your systems.

OK now I really am done.
I don't think Christians suck... 2 of my kids call them selves Christians..My mother is a VERY devout Catholic..My whole family is Catholic actually. I think Christianity is a beautiful religion, it's just not the religion for me.. I think there are some individual CHristians that suck, just like there are Jews, Muslims, Buddhist and Wiccans who suck... I don't throw out a whole belief system because some of it's adherents are not so nice.. ALL religions have issues..All religions have members whose actions I disagree with. It doesn't mean I hate the religion as a whole

edited for a million typos

I think, sadly, there is a sadistic streak in mankind as a whole.
(once again,I don't mean EVERY human)..Just humans as a whole

Oh my, I am not saying that at all. If you'll notice, the first statement to Bicker is the one that I was referring to you as well. That I don't know any Christians that hate Jews and you have made several references to us feeling that way. Maybe I have misunderstood your thoughts of Christians.

Oh, come on. Being a Christian doesn't make one sadistic anymore than being a Jew makes one masochistic. To be honest, I don't think the idea of Jews being persecuted in the U.S. is as much reality as tradition at this point.

Just wanted to point out that not all Christians support the same political party. Some of us actually realize that a true morally superior person wouldn't want to run for a political office. We disregard those claims & base our opinions on platforms that could actually be relevent. It would be nice to have politicians with true high standing morals, but I seriously doubt they could get elected. That's a different debate all together though, & I've always been one who thinks you should keep politics out of religion, so you don't alienate those who don't agree with you. Why am I posting this anyway? :rotfl2:

My statements were in response to other posts. And saying that Jews were persecuted, was stating historical fact. Plenty of other groups have persecuted Jews past and present, it doesn't mean I think that the entire groups are bad. Right now Muslim terrorists are against Jews and Americans. Do I hate all Muslims?? No, I think the Muslim religion and people are great, the same with the Christians. If I have any problems it is with the people that use religion as a basis for their hate.

And yes, the "old testament" is my religions bible. I don't see where I said anything bad about Santa and the Easter Bunny, except to respond to a person's post that her class just loved it, and I stated that I know kids that don't. I don't know see where or what I wrote says anything about my feelings towards Christians. I have plenty of Christian friends, and family.

I stated that Jews have been persecuted. That is an historical fact. They have been persecuted by Christians, Muslims, Egyptians, Romans, Syrians, I can go on and on. The Jewish race has been persecuted by others for over 5000 years, just because we are Jewish. I don't know how stating that implies in any way that I don't like Christians.

The people that hate, are a very small group in comparison with the whole. But theirs are the voices that are heard. These voices teach hate becuase people are different, and that I find intolerable. I hate anti-semitism, racism, anti-muslim, and any group that hates others based on the color of their skin, or based on their beliefs. No other person's beliefs are bad because they are different from mine. I think we would be really boring if we all believed the same thing. The really sad thing is that in the year 2006, there is still so much hatred and war in the world based in religion. There are so many people here in the USA, that would love to get rid of all the jews, muslims, asians, and christians and others that don't believe in their way of thinking. And that is really scary.

I think that schools should start teaching about all religions to educate all children that all religions are very similar, and they we are all the same even with our different beliefs. The only way to fight the hate, is to educate our children.

Do you think the Jews have cornered the market on persecution? Have they been persecuted more than Christians in early Roman pre-Constantine days? Can't Christians also lay claim to the BC persecutions, since Jesus was a Jew? Do you think if we sing Old Testament songs in public schools and not New Testament songs, that will somehow even the score?

What's past is past, and I don't see where the Christians who are alive now are in any way responsible for the Reformation or the Holocaust. They are what they are, but they aren't occurring in the U.S. today. Now, the holocaust of Africans at the hands of other Africans, that could be considered present day persecution. I don't know any Jewish person who would exchange the persecution they face today in the U.S.A. for the persecution a Hutu suffered in Rwanda at the hands of a Tutsi (or Tutsi at hand of Hutu).

Maybe being a Christian doesn't make you sadistic, but there is a correlation between the two, as that poll attests.

I agree that most Christians are beyond persecuting Jews as Jews these days--although they take little swipes at Hollywood liberals and the ACLU and so forth, they have gotten better at leaving the ethnicity of their scapegoats to the listener's imagination.

Jews are just as bad when they get a little power. And probably so are atheists and agnostics as individuals--however at least we generally don't "hive" around our status as unbelievers the way religious people identify themselves by their belief.

Being a Christian doesn't make one sadistic anymore than being a Jew makes one masochistic.
Rather, it is more a matter of the use or abuse of power. The finest measure of a group of people is how magnatimous they are while in power, and how resolute they are while not in power.

A good film about anti-Semitism in the United States is Gentleman's Agreement starring Gregory Peck and John Garfield.
