After months of rehearsing 3 times a week after school til 5:30, my oldest daughter's play opens tomorrow! We went to open rehearsal last night so we could take video. I thought they all did outstanding. I do have a few things I think were uncalled for.

When they took an intermission, the music teacher yelled to the kids to all sit on the stage. The curtain closed and we were all still seated in the audience. All of a sudden, you could hear this woman SCREAMING at the kids!!! Evidently, she saw some mistakes in their performance! I know the kids need to do their best, but I think her behavior was totally uncalled for and very unprofessional.

At the end of the rehearsal, this very same teacher announces to the kids that they all MUST bring in their $5.00 "donation". This is so the 3 music teachers can get THEMSELVES a gift!!!:earseek: Yes, I feel that these teachers deserve something for giving of their time, but there are approx. 200 kids in the cast and crew!!! That $1000.00!!!!  We (parents) had to buy the script, the cast t shirt and donate $2.00 each child to cover the cast party after the play finishes on Sat., so it's not like they were "footing the expenses" of the show.
I have to go in on Thurs evenings show to watch the kids in the band room while they wait for their turns on stage. This teacher better hope she doesn't mouth these kids off in front of me!! I might lost my temper just a tad! (If I do, can I count on you guys for bail money?!! )

That donation so that the teachers can buy themselves a gift seems so bizarre to me. Very strange.......I've never heard of this before.

I don't see why this woman needs to scream at the kids at all. I hope she doesn't cause you to lose your temper :)

Good luck to your daughter-I hope the show goes off without a hitch.

I would willing donate bail money for this worthy cause ! I don't even yell at my child. So, you can guess what my reaction would be !

Hoping the play goes off well, Colleen. Too bad about those few 'things', but I am sure it will go nicely. Have her 'break a leg' for us all. :)

Thanks for the well wishes! I'll be sure to pass them on to Jeana. If I get the chance, I'll post the picture of Jeana in her "hippie" costume. I took some shots last night before the final dress rehearsal. :D
