for the Honor's trip to Spain. It was for 7 weeks this summer. She was the only one from her school not chosen. She said her interview was horrible. She doesn't normally get nervous over anything, but the interviewer scared her to death.
She teaches 3rd graders spanish and she said at the interview she forgot everything. So she fully expected this. She's disappointed, but she's okay. She's doing a musical as school right now so she hasn't had time to be too disappointed.

But you know what, after watching the news all morning, I'm relieved she isn't going. :( I'm relieved I don't have to be scared to death that she's over there if something happens.
I'm relieved the decision is out of my hands. If something were to happen, how would I tell her it's okay to go, how could I send her, how would I tell her she couldn't? I'm breathing a guilty sigh of relief. :(
I'm not all together certain she won't join the military once she turns 18. How do parents do this, how do you let go?

Hugs for you and your DD Serena.

We are trying to keep things "normal", but it seems fear does take over sometimes, especially when it comes to our families.

I think that is how I would be feeling too Serena.

I am very sorry for any disappointment your daughter is feeling for not being selected.
Best wishes to her for a great time with the musical.
:D

I don't know how to let go.:( I remember being scared to let my kids play in the yard without me being right there with them.:o Sometimes it's tough being a parent.

I'm sorry she didn't get chosen, but as you said, it might be a good thing. {{hugs}} Is she very disappointed?

She isn't showing it yet. But she's in the last week of this musical. She's doing matinee's all day today and tomorrow and the shows start on Thursday night.

She's also already got a job lined up for the summer. She talked to the manager of a pet store and he says she's got the job all she has to do is fill out an application.
They know us there, really well. lol

And her bf isn't disappointed at all.

I know that as a parent, I would be relieved. WHo knows what a fantastic summer she may have since she is HERE :)

I would be sighing that same sigh of relief! I've had a very difficult time "letting go" of my college sons. Then I remember the friends that I have with sons in the military, and I don't know how they get through the day!
Remember that our kids "grow" with every disappointment. It's really true that they get stronger when they learn to deal with life's ups&downs.

I'll never be able to let go, I just try to go with the flow of change. Change is not always good, but a lot of times it's out of our hands when it comes to our children. We did bring them up to make their own decisions. Sometimes we don't agree, but we just have to support them and keep that relationship as close to our hearts as we can.
Dont you just wish they could stay little forever!

{HUGS}

{{{{HUGS}}}} to you and your daughter. Letting go is one of the hardest things in the world to do!

Serena, I would be feeling about the same things you are right now too. Eeeekkk, it would be nearly impossible for me to allow Ashli to travel overseas right now and yet I would feel terrible for holding her back.
What musical is Bri in? Ashli is in the middle of rehersals right now for footloose. Their play isn't until the end of April though so she's not in that hectic last week thing. That is one busy week isn't it?

I've always had the feeling that I was borrowing her, that she was a gift to me until she was able to go out on her own. She's never been one to follow directions, to seek approval, she's been independant since she was little.
I've just been here to catch her when she trips. :)

She's in Hello Dolly. My daughter is in a dress. Ahhhhh!, she'd wear a mini skirt, but a long flowing dress?! She's also got a parasol and one of those hats with flowers and ribbons. I can't believe it. I'll be taking lots of pictures. lol

Sorry to hear about the trip that she can't make, but wish her the best in "Hello Dolly" - a personal favorite of mine. I bet she'll be great. :D

Count your blessings, Serena. As part of a course he's taking in photojournalism, DS left for Sicily last Friday and returns this coming Sunday. While I've been reassured over and over and over that 'he should be fine in Italy', I'm still losing sleep over this and won't rest until he's back home. And he's 23!!!! So, while our kids grow and leave home and live life, we moms stay home and worry and go gray. That's just the way it is.....

So sorry for your DD, but I understand your relief....

it's so hard to be a parent sometimes...

{{hugs}}

It sounds as though she is taking this gracefully. Good for her! It is an important to experience disappointments as well as to get the things we want! Give her a big hug--she is lucky to have a parent who feels her pain!

Tell her not to be depressed. Everything happens for a reason. Perhaps something really nice is going to come her way this summer. :)

thank you everyone. :)

She's alright. She's got everyone at school cheering her up, and they all donated a dollar to the cause and won't take it back. lol
She's having all kinds of fun with this musical. The little kids are telling her she looks like a blonde Merry Poppins. :)

Serena -- I would feel the same exact way you do. I'm sorry if she's disappointed (but she sounds like she's having way to much to be), I'm glad she get's to stay home near you. :)

I would love to see your pictures of her in her costume! I love the Merry Poppins look. LOL!

ARGH! I hate interviews! :o :o :o
